Rumor: Trade Rumour Thread I: Post-Lockout Madness

they should have signed Eric Fehr.. he would help with the depth issue..

i wonder if Sather has a plan in Jason Arnott. i know they have had bad history in Edmonton, but i wonder if Sather might try to bring him here..

What about the possibility of trading for Vinny Prospal? He played well when he was here and showed good chemistry with Gaborik. He had 55 points last season with the Jackets and he could help with our top 6 and provide some insurance in case one of Richards or Stepan went down with injury, so we wouldn't be using Boyle as our 2nd line C.

Earlier in this thread I proposed trading for Sarich and signing Langkow, so if those were to occur as well as a Prospal trade, we could have this lineup:

Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Prospal - Stepan - Gaborik
Pyatt - Langkow - Callahan
Rupp/Asham - Halpern* - Boyle

McD - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
MDZ - Sarich

* - If we're playing a physical team, we could scratch Halpern and roll with both Rupp and Asham. Otherwise his faceoff abilities are too good to keep out of the lineup.

I would as well, but on the absolute cheap only. Like, 3rd round pick cheap. Not the biggest fan of his, but it'd be better than having Rupp on the 3rd line.

As someone who's been watching both the Avalanche and Rangers for a long time, I can safely inform this board that you'll all dog on Stewart within 10 games of acquiring him.

I could see them trying to get Arnott to come here if the struggles continue, Sather tried to trade for him back in 2010. Here is Brooks from June 2010, imagine if he made this trade?

The Rangers were in trade talks with the Predators regarding Jason Arnott before the center was dealt to New Jersey, Slap Shots has learned.

An impeccable source reports that Nashville turned to Lou Lamoriello once Sather refused to yield the rights to Wisconsin senior defenseman Ryan McDonagh, whom the Blueshirts are attempting to sign for the coming season.

Im very very confused why Sather signed Gilroy instead of another forward.

I was confused then and Im even more confused now.

Seen some of this kind of stuff circulating on the main trade board
Thought I would put it all together here
These proposals are not far off from what some of the other teams there have been asking for. Both Morrow and Penner seem to be in a bit of a funk so to speak... If we could get them on the cheap - hey why not?
Pretty improbable though...

  • Brendan Morrow (UFA) for Matt Gilroy + Michael Haley + 3rd round pick - Dallas eats half the cap hit ($2.050.000 - $650.000) = NYR take an annual caphit of $1.400.000
  • Dustin Penner (UFA) for Steve Eminger + Jason Wilson + 4th round pick - LA eats half salary + caphit ($1.625.000 - $750.000) = NYR take an annual caphit of $875.000
  • Douglas Murray (UFA) for Mike Rupp + 3rd round pick + rights to Peter Ceresnak NYR take an annual caphit of $1.000.000

NYR would be taking an annual hit here of $3.275.000 in theory if these trades were to go down (none of them most likely will)
98 day season
Say this goes down in about 2 weeks = 21 days of season gone
Prorated annual hit due to these trades would then be $2.573.214 at time of trade(S)
Available annual space now is $3,980,050 (minus Krieder which is NOT included - if he is sent down)
Leaves about $1.406.836 in annual space (prorated this is $5.803.197 at the deadline) to pickup a UFA Defenseman or do whatever then
Plus we have LTIR money Sauer we could utilize if we near the cap
Just saying...

Morrow - Richards - Nash
Pyatt - Stepan - Gaborik
Hagelin - Boyle - Callahan
Penner - Halpern - Asham

Ferriero/Mashinter as a spare

Lots of different line combos & options
Everyone playing their right line btw
Reuniting Richards and Morrow might be a good reinjection of spark for Morrow
A pretty impressive 3rd line IMO
Penner as a 4th liner who can move up when he gets on a hot streak
Murray as a banger who can go with heavyweights and play a steady 13-14 3rd pairing minutes
Bickel as a spare brawler
Still have an Achilles heal on faceoffs though
Kreider sent down to work on pro game a while - hopefully returning this year
Maybe sign Zuccarello as a PP expert around the deadline and bring himover then (believe he has an NHL out clause in his KHL contract)
Zucc and Kreider in as added playoff depth

McD - Girardi
Staal - MDZ
Murray - Stralman

Bickel

A deadline pickup on D (this has to be UFA) to add more depth would not be a bad thing either
There would - as mentioned above be a bit of cap space there to accommodate this

Would this make up a better team better suited for a long run??
Playoffs - btw???

Gilroy is cheap so whatever. The 6th D spot is up for grabs so it gave more competition for Bickel and Eminger. Also Eminger and Gilroy are UFAs at yrs end so sending one in a trade or just down to the minors would be easy if they wanted too.

Arnott makes sense. Did he not score quite a few goals last yr? Sather had interest before so I don't see how he can hurt too add depth

Also Dustin Penner not Justin :-) likely stays with LA for another playoff run, he stunk last reg season and is doing the same now but he is a playoff performer it seems...............Morrow has a no trade clause so not sure how easy that is

He´s just in to dust´in... Thanx
Arnott makes sense. Maybe if that not possible, then one of Langkow, Sykora, Dvorak or D Moore (if he plays)? It is just small change money on a short term UFA deal
Regarding NTC - Gotta think Morrow might wanna be interested in being moved also to be reunited with Richards in NYC - on a presumed "contender"? Not sure what it would take but there would presumably be other desperate bidders (Philly??) around
LA in the POs in a mere 48 game season??? hahaha

But all the Canes fans are saying Westgarth is a big body that they wanted for the fourth line, so this did not do that. And even if they wanted to clear out bodies to make space for kids, why overpay like this? Why not just waive Stewart who has one year left at 900k?

Hey buddy, how is Kassian doing so far this season...it is ok to not agree with someones trades suggestion but try to make it like it is a horrible suggestion and to say I don't know anything about hockey and to have it blow up in your face must sting.

Since you 31, Turcotte, Zentith and a few others decided that I knew nothing, Kassian has scored 3 games played an all around solid game, unless, Kevin Weekes, doesn't know what he is talking about either, Halerpin plays 6 minutes a game and soon will be a healthy stratch, Hagelin has been moved off the top 2 lines, hasn't scored in 33 games and it starting to look like a lost puppy out there.

Then I read how we should trade anyone and everyone for PK Subban...

Kreider struggles for 4 games and people are trading him away as well....

Vitto suggested trading for Connolly, I don't like Connolly at all...I didn't attack Vitto, even though I don't agree with most things he says...and I am the animal.

I like the bolded part the best.:laugh::laugh:
What species??
Ursus or Giganthropicus?

You and me both. I really don't see what Gilroy adds to this team.

Honestly, I think Gilroy is only here in anticipation of injuries that are likely to occur. Look around the league and a lot of teams are scrambling to put NHL lineups (PHI) on the ice because of long term injuries to players. Depth signing that's beneficial to the youngsters in CT.

Halpern is a fouth line center, he shouldn't play more then 6-9 minutes a games since he doesn't play the PK really.

yea he does play the PK, that's what he is a 4th line C to take draws and play the PK. He's cheap, not a problem as a depth guy

Problem is depth Wingers right now cause Kreider is not playing like they want and Hagelin is really a 3rd line LW. Although I am going to get sick of seeing him in trade proposals cause he's a great young player and fast as hell.

I like Kassian as well but I don't see the point in dwelling on a missed "opportunity," being as Vancouver traded a blue chip center to get him. Something the Rangers don't have available to part with.

I don't like any of their options right now to trade for and in a shortened season, why bother? Let this team gel and find their identity this year and correct the holes in the offseason. Mostly without trading if possible.

That explanation is all well and good.

But the same thinking wasnt applied to the forwards?

Asham gets hurt and Kreider sucks and all of a sudden Stu Bickel and a carousel out of Hartford is the answer?

Management and scouting continually over value NYR prospects . They hitched their wagon to CK AND HAG producing and I know it's only 4 games but neither look very good or NHL Caliber top 9 forwards .

I'm thinking spare D is more important than spare forwards. 6 vs. 12. You can always run with three lines if you have to (though, it's not a long term solution). If two D go down that's a lot worse than two F.

The NYR should've been aware that Kreider wasn't/isn't ready despite how well he did last year in the playoffs. Anyone that watched him in Hartford could've told you that. There's still some quality forwards out there (Arnott, Moore) that can be had without a trade deadline maneuver.

And, to me, Gilroy and Bickel are Hartford caliber players that just happen to be up here with the big club.

At this point I should say . Lack of depth and a point shot seem to be a problem once again .

I would agree that despite one being chronically injured and the other old both have NHL POISE with the puck a thing that seems to be entirely lacking on all but 3-5 NYR F about now .
I wish the NYR would have signed Adrian Aucoin To play on 3 rd pair . Despite being a dinosaur he can bomb it from point and can still play 3 rd pair minutes and is a big body with once again NHL poise with the puck . I never have seen so many bad giveaways by a team as I have in 4 games this season
