one player id love to get is Max Pacioretty from Montreal.. i doubt he is available. he is a heck of a player.. power forwards dont grow on trees... rangers need more size that can actually skate in the top 6...

You really are ridiculous. You don't know when to stop. And when you finally find a player who I actually can agree with you on (even though he absolutely is not available) you show videos of him fighting when that is absolutely not what he is about. The guy can score goals and use his big frame to do it. No one cares that he has been in some scraps. The game is NOT ABOUT FIGHTING. What don't you get? You are so frustrating sometimes.

Aside from that, you all need to calm the hell down. Seriously. People are really talking about trading Hagelin? Ha...ha. Same with del zotto. And we have one guy saying Halpern will be off the team by the end of the year. I really wish there was a way to put those people on a posting freeze, kinda like a penalty box....for sheer stupidity. I'm as mad as you are, but keep the sanity. It's been TWO GAMES. You are probably the same people that freaked out after losing to the Kings and Ducks in Sweden and then to the Islanders before winning the first game to start the season. In fact they had a pretty bad october all together. But the team ended up in the ECF. I know it's a shorter season and every point is vital BUT ITS BEEN TWO GAMES. Geez.

No, and no.

What if McD holds out next summer? Do you want the Habs to offersheet him?

McDonagh is arbitration eligible. He will file for salary arbitration. Subban is not arb eligible.

Subban would be a holdout on the Rangers too. He wants $5.5M-$6M per. MTL is offering $2.5M-$3M. Bergevin wants a bridge contract. Sather would not pay Subban those dollars either. There is $3M difference ANNUALLY between Newport Sports and MTL.

I agree on Subban.

We also gotta manage our cap as always, and from that point of view, a 1-way offensive minded D makes more sense than a 2-way complete D who will make alot of money. McD, Staal and Girardi will make alot of money in NY while playing rock solid defense. We have MDZ who gives us somewhat of a offensive punch from the left side. But we lack that on the right side.

What makes sense is that prototypical right handed young smaller PPQB. We could afford to carry a player like that without weakning our defense. We can't get enough offensive punch for sure, because we really lack that.

Whichever kid we manage to give a shot would be put in a fantastic environment. He would definitely come to a set table.

We should gun for a young Zubov or Dan Boyle. These players aren't impossible to get your hands on.

Subban for Del Zotto, but your 3rd pair is Bickel-Gilroy. Terribad.

Exactly. Not only did we lose some cap flexibility, but our third pair turns into horse****.

Max isn't going anywhere. And how many teams around the league could say they need more size in their top-6? All but 2?

Dear HFBoards,

Please,
with all our new players, can we give them a few more games to find chemistry before trading Gaborik and Del Zotto?

Regards.

Hehe, but its so fun in this dream world of ours! ;) (and I am definitely as guilty as everyone else)

As long as any post don't contain the word "HRR" or something like that, I can accept it...

(and I 100% agree with you. Now is not the time to make changes for sure.)

Subban for Del Zotto, but your 3rd pair is Bickel-Gilroy. Terribad.

Yeah, but at the same time, a 3rd pair is a 3rd pair. For just about any team, in a important game they play 10 minutes the first two periods and then don't see the ice in the third besides the odd shift maybe.

I've never seen a team and thought like "oh that team would be good if they had a stronger 3rd pair".

This worry about the 3rd pair comes up in other dicussions to from time to time. You don't want D's on it that is exposed on a regular basis. But there are cheap vet D's out there all the time who just can lift the puck out and not be humiliated defensively atleast. It don't has to be Bickel or Gilroy. And having a great 3rd pair still don't help you that much, because, like I said, in important situations you still always opts to go with the better pairings.

I think its a purely hypotetical discussion in regards to MDZ for Subban. I am a huge fan of the later, but people in MTL seem to be nuts about him and I just don't see management in Montreal getting something done there (what are they going to do, trade the first young good looking player they've had in ages in what is nothing but a salary dump??? I could only see something getting done there in like a hold out for hold out type of trade, and the odds for them are microscopical)...

He has been a good addition... 5 years of your drivel, why do WE keep coming back?

I think he has looked good too. I don't get what's the problem is here.

If anything, I would consider getting Halpern up the lineup if he keeps playing the way he has. Because -- this far atleast -- and no matter if Boyle is a "3rd line center" or not, the line of Kreider-Boyle-Pyatt just don't seem to get the job done. And Torts loves those energy line's that he can send out on the ice while always knowing what he will get.

I could see bottom two lines of:
Kreider-Halpern-Callahan, and
Asham-Boyle-Rupp.

I think a line with Boyle on it is a bit too N-S for Kreider. I think playing with Gabby forces Cally to be a player he not really is. I think Gabby is forced to adjust to Cally a bit too much to. Stepan and Cally has never really hitten it off either. With Kreider-Halpern-Cally you get a bit more of a typical American hockey line. Pretty N-S, but a bit more creativity going the last distance to the net. Alot of speed and so forth.

The only question would be how well Pyatt would look next to Stepan and Gabby (another option is of course to put Pyatt on the 1st line and Hags on the 2nd)...

agree, that 3rd line doesn't do much right now. You could try putting Pyatt on the 1st. Move Gaborik back to RW, put Kreider on the 2nd line.

Pyatt-Richards-Nash gives you 2 big guys driving the net and a great playmaker
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik has the potential to be great offensively, but leaves a little ? defensively. Worth trying though IMO, because Stepan showed great chemistry with both of his wingers already.
Hagelin-Boyle-Callahan gives you great defensive play, while also having the ability to create offense with speed and sheer will. Callahan has some skill as well. Hagelin and Callahan don't need great passes the same way Kreider does, they can flourish through dump & chase.
4th line stays the same as I think Halpern and Asham did a good job and I don't want to break that up.

Halpern has been fine on the 4th line. I have actually been pleasantly surprised by his speed and tenacity on the forecheck.

Asham was less than impressive in his first game but that is WAY too small a sampling.

The 3rd line should be split up as Pyatt and Boyle don't compliment eachother at all.

IMO, the Rangers need a Steve Ott, Jordin Tootoo, Brandon Prust-like player. They are missing someone who can create energy in multiple ways, whether it be a fight (that isn't staged) or hit it doesn't matter. They are missing someone who can stir the pot.

I cant help but laugh when running through this threads. You'd think that the major reasons this team is playing poorly is because of Stu Bickel (who actually has been bad) and Jeff Halpern (who actually has been good).

The compete level isnt there right now for about 90% of the team. That, and the fact that 4 out of the top 7 forwards (Stepan, Gaborik, Hagelin, Kreider) have been no-shows to start the season, are the biggest factors.

But I guess scapegoating is more fun.

Pretty much sums things up around here.

Its the same people who have a pre-set agenda, and continue to spew it no matter what the game shows.

Whats the point of watching the games if you cant do it objectively? If you have the answer in your head about who is going to play poorly and who is destined for stardom, why even watch?

That pretty much sums it up. Couldn't have said it better.

Is it me or has Cally not been throwing the body as much?

I think Halpern has played better than Boyle and been more effective, he went 20% against Boston on FO's and then followed it up with 71% against Pitt. I think Pyatt has been our best forward not named Nash, and that Asham was a pleasant surprise. Actually all the new forwards have been our best forwards.

I think everyone has some rust on them, and we played a much better game two. If we can score three goals playing some of the worst hockey we have played in 5 years then when we are actually clicking we'll be fine.

Because being right is so important... It's like some people actually hope a player struggles or the team struggles so they can further their agenda. Really does get obnoxious.

I agree. Torts message is new and getting through to them. He needs to get through to the rest of the team like he did last year.

I think this team is hearing the Stanley Cup predictions and, having gone through some wars in April/May last year, they're content with believing they'll be there again. Torts has to (and will) make them understand they aren't entitled to anything.

so your telling me you would not want a top 6 forward that can change the momentum by getting into the fight/sticking up for his teammates when things go wrong.. i really wish NYR had a Hartnell Lucic type of player..look at what happened when Drew Stafford fought last night. Rangers cant have a top 6 of smaller forwards and one power forward.. no one was complaining when Adam Graves was here and getting into fights, same can be said with Mark Messier.. and another thing.. Callahan is one of the better hitters in the NHL, but he seems the type of player that will break down with age by the way he plays his heart out....just something to consider...

Yes, thats certainly part of it.

But I just cant wrap my head around how people could watch these last 2 games and come to this board incessantly complaining about Stu Bickel or Brian Boyle. Everyone knows these guys are the weaker links on the team.

But putting the bulk or crap on them and not mentioning about 10 other guys that deserve it too doesnt make anyone look smart or right - it makes them look like idiots.

Fighting wins Cups. I say they just keep their assets and sign some undrafted guys from an MMA league. Then they can grapple their way to the championship and then behead Bettman while riding Dragons and listening to Metallica at unsafe decibal levels.

Now that's entertainment.

I almost put Callahan on that list, almost.

I thought he was pretty physical in the first game, but was a ghost at even strength in the 2nd. Probably has a lot to do with playing a lot with Stepan, who is up there amongst the worst Ranger players of the past 2 games.
