That's nice and all, but I would be very concerned with our forward depth if that was the case. Don't get me wrong, I love Subban, but we can't trade forwards for defensemen at this time, IMO. Not until Miller, Fast, Lindberg prove that they're ready.
I would trade MDZ for him, but he would most likely want a long term contract, which means more cap space taken up. And we would definitely have to add something significant to the deal.

Subban's a righty. Top 4 of a combo of McD or Staal-Subban or Girardi? Yes Please.
Makes the left point on the PP dangerous. He can get the puck to the net. I like DZ, but he isn't exactly the best at getting it to the net. Subban knows what a one-timer is. Most of our PP guys don't. The only thing is that maybe, our transition game would be affected negatively, but let's be honest here-it can't get much worse.
And we can troll Habs fans and show them what a McD-Subban pairing could have looked like.

That's why the trade makes no sense. One of our biggest problems last year was the discrepancy between the ice time our #1 D and #6 got.
I actually would rather target Jason Demers from San Jose. RH PMD who played well overseas this year. I think he would be the perfect guy on the 3rd pairing and I think Hagelin straight up for him would be decent for both sides. San Jose needs some speed in their top 6, which is what Hags epitomizes. I would hate losing him since he's such a promising player, but you've got to give to get. Then you replace Hagelin with Hrivik or trade for a rental like Ponikarovsky as you mentioned. Although I wrote down Hrivink just based on the fact that he's Slovak to play on the same line with Gabby.

What if McD holds out next summer? Do you want the Habs to offersheet him?
I don't think Demers is a liability, but he definitely isn't a defensive stalwart. He'll get burned pinching offensively like most PMD do. I think as long as he can carry the puck out of our own zone, he should be able to play 20 minutes a night and help our embarrassing transition game.

He has been. Halpern's skated well, has been good on faceoffs and a solid PKer. Don't even know why that was brought up. Seems like you're bringing it up because you have nothing to counter with other than "SIZE FIGHTING", as usual.

I like it then. Just as long as we get a LW to replace Hags.
But I would really like Hags to play in our bottom 6 and inject some speed there. He and Boyle played well together when he came up last year.
Zuccarello would be pretty good right now. Remember the uncanny chemistry between him and Boyle before he broke his wrists? Man that was the last time I was stress free as a Rangers fan for once.

Subban is beyond overrated over on the Habs board (he's literally mentioned as being better than every single top D in the league at one point or another by someone), but he's definitely a great young D-man with a bright future ahead of him. He'd be a fantastic pick up for us, but they're going to match anything that isn't a gigantic over-payment unless they're really having a huge fallout which I don't think is the case. We can't afford to outbid them... he's supposed to be their #1 guy moving ahead and is a huge organisational need not only for that, but for the excitement he brings to the team in general. Fan favorite, Molson won't let him go easily.

Yes, we should have taken Tarasenko. I friggin' love the kid. It would be great to have him and it genuinely was a mistake not taking him. No need to get defensive about it. It also doesn't mean the world is ending and we're a bad team. And I'm excited for McI to come along just the same.
And christ, you'd think we were 0-15 the way most of you are posting. The expectations on these boards were WAY too high coming out of the lockout. You guys bought into way too much hype. We'll be a good, playoff team come season end and we are a competitor if we stay healthy. No body said we'd be the #1 seed or have a perfect record, so relax. There's obvious rust and adjustments to be made with a decent amount of roster turnover but the world is still spinning and all will be fine.

one player id love to get is Max Pacioretty from Montreal.. i doubt he is available. he is a heck of a player.. power forwards dont grow on trees... rangers need more size that can actually skate in the top 6...
