Rumor: Trade Rumour Thread I: Post-Lockout Madness

In a strange way, the lockout can help us here.

I mean, think about it - what is a "great" year for one of these guys? Let's say Hags really steps up his play to the point where he would've scored 30 goals in a regular 82 game season. That translates to what, 17-18 goals, this year? A single hot or cold streak can have a dramatic impact on the full year extrapolation.

That small sample size is going to make it really hard to argue for either Steps or Hags to get a significant increase over what you're projecting. Play well, get something between Dubi/AA money and DZ money this summer and then play for a bigger deal in 2015.

Great year = 0,8 PPG or more for Hagelin or Stepan IMO. Not probable - but certainly possible.
Then my projected numbers on the bridge contracts are simply not going to hold up, number or year wise. But that also means we have an injection of more high end talent than we might have been hoping for up until now. Kind of a win/win if you ask me...
But you are totally right that the shortened season more likely than not will have a positive effect on these 3 contracts. At least one would think so...

Regarding Sauer as somebody (Snowblind) mentioned. If he were to against current projection get his health back and return to playing NHL hockey - resigning at a similar hit (for 1-2 years) as he has now (@ $1,2M per annum) - that would be optimal IMO. Would give Big Mac one more year to round out his game (or be a midseason callup) in CT. A long shot YES - but definitely the best scenario. Good call there!

I picked Stepan as my 4th line C in fantasy cause well he's likely to play with Gabby, Cally , Nash. he is the 2nd line C

Hagelin I took as a bench player cause he starts with Richards and Nash. Although I think Kreider can take that spot in due time

I'm really surprised that team like the Isles or CBJ's didn't take the plunge (yet) on a guy like Gomez. He's still a serviceable Center that can be had on the cheap.

And, no one picked up Moore, either? That's even more puzzling.

Moore's wife died very recently. He might not want to play right now.

That just makes zero sense.

Get rid of Richards' 7 remaining years and basically give it to Getzlaf = long term flexibility? What?

We lose the one contract that overly hand cuffs us by making a trade.
Getzlaf is your fallback this year

Since he is UFA next season, we have a choice to go after him or not.

We thus automatically have flexibility.
If he wants big deal we can say no.

Of course he'll want a big deal. Why wouldn't he? Perry is more likely to hit the market than Getzlaf anyway.

Besides, we buy out Richards then say no to Getzlaf and ice who as our top center?

He and Perry and a couple of others will all want big deals. But their timing is bad. The cap next year will push down on salaries.

That probably means either:
signing with a bad team that has cap space because, being bad, it has lots of roster turnover. That will provide top dollar, not much else.

Or instead he can do 1 year for 4+ mil for a top team that has a shot, like the rangers. We would have to juggle to squeeze that 4 mil, but it is do-able.

We can't have everything once cap reality hits.
Let's project regardless of cap status and buyouts, etc, later on in the contract, Richards has 4-5 good years left now.

Is it worth it to keep Richards and have no flexibility with the entire rest of the team?

Makes me furious when I see a guy like Zack Kassian getting traded. This kid is only 21 and just starting to come into his own...he could have been our Milan Lucic. These guys are so hard to find and when a GM is dumb enough to be willing to trade him you have to be all in on a kid like this...he is being to thrive in Vancouver, instead, I have to watch Hagelin skate around with no purposes.

Kassian was traded for a guy who outproduced him 4 times over. So there's a premium for all the things you're describing.

He is not thriving in Vancouver. He was a trainwreck last season, and had 1 bad game and one good one this season.

Lucic produces 27 points in 77 games his first year...Kassian produced 10 in 44 games...

If it would have taken Thomas and a 2nd or Yogan type prospect to get Kassian, that is a trade I am willing to make.

If you look at our top two lines...who has size outside of Nash?

It would take way more than Thomas and a 2nd. He got traded for Cody Hodgson.

No one on the top two lines has size outside of Nash. How would Kassian playing on the 4th line change that?

How do you figure? He got traded for Cody Hodgson who is a pretty damn good prospect. He scored 41 points in his first NHL season. He scored in Buffalo's opener this year as well. A 41 point rookie NHLer is worth a significantly larger bounty than Christian "probably won't play in the NHL" Thomas.

Kassian plays with the Sedin's...do they play on the 4th line.

He played with the Sedins because the Canucks' scoring depth, already very weak, is depleted by the injuries to Kesler and Booth. Last season he played 4th line when he wasn't a healthy scratch for them.

Honestly, you could see Kassian being a top 6 forward here?

DOUGLAS MURRAY
Should be on our radar right now
UFA
Can play right side 3D
Tough as nails
For Thomas/Ceresnak or Yogan/Noreau and a 3rd. Add a spare D if they want one (Eminger, Bickel, Gilroy) and subtract a prospect.
Get er done Slats!

then i would have explored trading Hagelin for him...he produced Hodgson last year...

I have never seen him play right side.

He played his best game as a Canuck with the Sedins...I can see him easily replacing Hagelin.

Everyone has their best games playing with the Sedins... Jason King, Anson Carter, or Trent Klatt would be a lot cheaper.

Hagelin's even-strength production was literally double that of Kassian's last season.

Do you know how many goals Hagelin has scored in the last 31 games played....ZERO!

Your speed can foul people for so long...after they make adjustments...what are you left with.

Ok..so, the Sedin's make everyone better...u don't think Richards and Nash or Gaborik can make him better.

This post, right here... the epitome of why I think these boards may have been more habitable during the lockout. It's unbearable during the season; we lost two games!!! Hagelin's a bum! Kreider's a bust! Hank's lost his form! Girardi is awful! McDonagh is overrated! Nash looks overweight! Gaborik is timid! Trade Richards so we can sign Getzlaf!

Lord help me.

Kassian has 2 in his last 31 games. Want to compare the 31 games before that?

And I wouldn't say Gaborik makes the players around him better.

LOL...he can certainly make the ones he plays against look really good on a lot of those skating while asleep mode nights he is in .
