i was clear, we're fine WITHOUT ADDING ANYONE
I don't know how much clearer i can get now.
we've got 10 mil to get all our RFA ducks in a row.
I dont want us to go after Perry, Getzlaf, etc.
I like this team. I dont want another superstar, i want us to continue. My "plan" has always been to get 3 elite offensive players to supplement the...well...supplemental talent we have.
we've done that. I have zero desire for this team to add anyone else of consequence. 10 mil to keep the guys we have, and go to war. Give this team a few cracks at a cup.
Would you re-sign him if he was looking for another 5 year contract? I'd re-sign Gaborik on a ~5-6 million dollar deal for 3 more years. If he wants more than that in terms of dollars or years I would be FAR more hesitant.
That $10M is going to need to be used to accompany the raises due to McDonagh, Stepan, and Hagelin AND re-sign or replace 4 roster players who are UFA after this season.
Its going to be a tight fit.
Nearing go time everyone. I think our team is good enough the way it is. We have an optimal team IMO.
Gotcha.
Ok, so we can go after Getzlaf or Perry as long as we field a 17 man roster.

Why would he move his NMC? Under no circumstances would he. He came to NY to live there and play under his favorite coach. Why would he uproot his family and go to an organization that is still in rebuild mode as he moves towards the latter part of his career?
And if we buy him out we would look like an even bigger joke and what FA is going to sign with us when they see how we treat players and show ZERO loyalty to them.

No more re-entry waivers. And now you can pick up salary/cap hit in trades, like in baseball. Apparently.
You used to be able to just trade straight cash in this league.
Well Getzlaf had like 12 goals last year. That worries me. I hope we don't get him and then he changes his name to Getz-last-laf.
I hope we don't get him. Or Perry.
Let's re-sign all of our guys. See how we do this season. See how we do next season. If we need to use another buyout, we will, and then we'll see where our needs really are and who is available. Let's see how Hagelin looks at the end of NEXT season. How Kreider and Stepan and McDonagh evolve over this 48 games plus next year's 82. Then we can worry about the next high priced addition. I love the guys we've got, but with Gaborik Nash and Richards, I've had my full of BIG name signings and acquisitions for a minute. Let's take a break.
The Rangers will have to likely cut salary next year when the cap goes down.
Nice to see that doesnt stop people from fawning over Perry and Getzlaf.
The only way to get Perry and Getzlaf would be to buy out Richards and trade Gaborik. Do not see that happening, but you never know...![]()

that roster is realistic and I think one they would want. Its going to be penny pinching but McIlrath may not be ready yet so they could save 500 K or so on another Gilroy, Eminger type.
I think Haley must be the spare since he's on a one way deal and if not its a few hundred K wasted which they cant really have.
Miller could make the team for sure but he would likely get 3rd line minutes. I would think Pyatt would be dealt for a guy making 500 K less to play in the 4th line instead of Mashinter who you have there now. Again penny pinching.
I think Lindberg is going to replace Halpern as the 4th line C
Rupp has to go next yr since you cant have a 4th liner making that much. He is likely tradeable to a cap floor team looking for leadership
So my lineup is very close and RFA numbers look right on Hagelin ,McD, Stepan. They may want more but will likely get around that money
Nash, Richards, Callahan
Kreider, Stepan, Gaborik
Hagelin, Boyle, Miller
cheaper play for Pyatt, Lindberg, Asham
Haley
McDonaugh, Girardi
Staal, Stralman
Del Zotto, Bickel
cheap spare
Lundqvist, Biron

Like you said, it is quite uncertain on the bottom D pairing plus the bottom 6. There is a lot of time that will change things the next 9 months until Training Camp begins for next year. Hopefully with a parade down Broadway as a peak!
The main point I was trying to make is that we realistically CAN retain our solid core & also resign our 3 key RFAs - then basically recruiting and tweaking all the minor roster changes from within the organization. Which is great! Or so it presently appears. It will be a very tight fit though... Glen consistently hardballing the RFAs up for their 2nd bridge-gap contracts is very beneficial here, but IMO that is not going to fly with McD. He will get a longer, Staal type deal. Also if Stepan and/or Hagelin have a great year - this all gets shot to Hades as well...
It's my understanding Getzlaf is UFA after this season.
Swapping him for Richards effectively creates long term flexibility.
