They wanted to move DZ for a first and nobody would give up their first.

Clowe got moved for a 2nd. And got a massive deal in FA.

Clowe is probably similar to what Cally will get both as a trade and in FA.

Clowe had 0 goals and like 4 assists when being traded. He had lost any semblance of offense. He had also severely regressed due to his injuries by that point.

He wasn't the captain of the team, the team wasn't surging the way they did to start this season - they looked like a fringe playoff team. And he wasn't a pivotal part of the success of that franchise. Fans respected him but didn't idolize him. Ask Ranger fans who their top 3 Rangers are, the majority will tell you Henrik and Cally in their top 2.

Cally symbolizes a lot to this fan base and to this team. He's not ultra talented, he's not a superstar, but his popularity amongst fans is immense. Why? Because he symbolizes more than a fighter, he symbolizes more than a me-first star. Fans like that a lot. And not only that, but he's what has brought this team together for the last 5 years. He means a lot to the success of our franchise.

Laughable that you compared the two.

Laughable that you compared the two.

What's laughable is that you think cally has a ton of value when everyone knows the rangers are letting him walk to FA

Unless the rangers are actually prepared to resign him to the massive deal he wants, they have no choice but to move him for whatever the best return is they can get. And that return is nowhere near as high as if cally was under contract going forward

Clowe returned (2) 2nd's + a late round pick.

Clowe had 1 goal.

One of the 2nd's was conditional, we ended up giving them a 5th instead.

Clowe had 0 goals.

He was traded for a 2nd and a 3rd, and a conditional 2nd which turned to a 5th.

Concussed. Twice. 0 goals. Traded for a 2nd, 3rd, and a 5th. And there are people who actually think Callahan won't get a 1st?

I know it's a stretch but maybe they're trying to acquire both Stewart and Stastny, rather getting Stewart now to entice Stastny in the off season. We have been scouting Colorado. I wouldn't put it past Sather to do something like this, trade off guys and still "go for it " this season

Few seasons back on hockeyfights.com there was a thread who would you want on your team Lucic or Stewart? The thread was split 50/50...Are you guys under valuing this guy? 6ft 2 and 231 pounds...26 years old who can score and rarely loses a fight?? I'm sorry but he doesn't sound like chopped liver to me.

No, they were considering moving Del Zotto for a first. Instead, they moved him for a great player, because they intend to compete, and not tank.

Clowe got moved for a 2nd a 3rd and a conditional 2nd if he re-signs.
And he had 0 goals on the season...

I think a 1st by itself is his limit.

Not getting stewart + a first.

I was just correcting him. I never said Callahan straight up for Stewart would be good value. Like you said, Clowe got back 3 picks.

I'd take Stewart, Schmaltz/Vannelli, and a 2nd that could turn into a 1st if they make the Stanley Cup Finals.

At least then we'd have two long-term pieces.

Naturally, I tell my cousin confidential information for the fun of it too.

Not sure how to characterize this, other than as nonsensical. So I guess I'll just question my reading comprehension level and move on.

You are just completely speculating that anyone offered a first for MDZ. I think they tried to get a first and nobody would do it.

Klein isn't a great player. He's an ok player. Nothing special.

Like I said. An injury prone guy going into FA was worth a 2nd and 3rd.

Cally might be worth a first. But that's about it. The idea that cally is returning Stewart + a first. Or Stewar + Jaskin is just completely off.

It's far closer to stewart + a 3rd

Ton of value? Nobody thinks we're going to get a monster return. But you're the only guy here who thinks Callahan won't return a 1st. We're talking about a two-way player who's game was built for the playoff grind. Captain. Under 30. He can play in various systems. Good locker room personality.

GM's are going to go ape **** over Callahan if he is in fact being shopped. Again, I'm not talking about a monster return, but a 1st plus something nice isn't unrealistic. Especially when you acknowledge what other players have gone for during the deadline.

You're wrong. Just admit it and move on instead of proving to the entire forum you're one of those guys that's talking out of his ass.

Like I said. He might net a first by itself. That's probably the limit of his value.

But he is not returning a first + stewart like some here want. He doesn't have that kind of value.

When you look at it from an angle biased and based around his size and toughness you are right.

A hockeyfights.com poll will convince no one here this is a good trade.

Meanwhile, whoever brought up Callahan Jersey sales, how many of them went to people outside the Rangers' market?

The roster player that replaces RC, I'm guessing he'll sell more jerseys moving forward. Esp. now that the Stadium Series is done.

Now you're saying you think a 1st by itself is his limit. A second ago you said he wouldn't be moved for a 1st. You're all over the place.

Klien's a top-4 RHD. Signed to a great contract. Sure, he's not a gamechanger but he's better than just "ok".

San Jose had a deal with Vancouver involving Clowe for a 2013 first. Clowe vetoed the trade because he thought the Rangers were more likely to give him a contract extension than VAN and Clowe wanted to play in the east. Clowe had a no trade.

I said they would be lucky to get a first for him. In response to some saying Stewart + a first.

Klein isn't that special of a player. He is a decent defenseman with no offensive ability.

No way in gods creation do you settle for just Stewart for Callahan.

Thats just asinine.

I'd rather lose Callahan for nothing then to go through that

Callahan's veteran agent, Steve Bartlett, who would not get into any specifics in terms of contract talks, certainly is well aware of what's going on.

"Right now, we only have one team we can negotiate with and we're trying to do that in good faith," Bartlett told ESPN.com on Friday. "I always retain hope that something can get done. But if it doesn't, that's the business. I never tell a GM if he's right or wrong, I just present what I believe is right for my client."

What Callahan is believed to be asking for is not too far from the type of deals Dustin Brown and David Clarkson have signed.

Clearly, though, the Rangers are concerned about Callahan's durability and insist they won't sign for that long. Therefore, the Rangers are telling teams they will move Callahan by March 5 if he isn't re-signed.
