I think they would move the LA pick the easiest. Although JD may be okay moving the Rangers pick back to them.

Gabby still brings something to the table for a lot of teams. He can score and that isn't a given for some teams. Unfortunately, when he's not scoring he's not doing much else good for the team. There is definitely value there.

I see no way Jagr ends up with this team... He's one of my favorite all time players but I just don't see it with a Torts coached team.
 
Trading Gaborik doesnt solve the goal scoring issue. It would most likely alleviate cap issues and get some assets back.

I'm still on the fence. To me, Richards is a bigger problem but he's going nowhere.

I think they should just stick it out. They can always move him in the offseason, although he'll probably bounce back with 40-40 in 2014.

You never know at this point. Columbus is under new management, has a Euro friendly GM at the helm, and is having success right now. He's being dragged through the mud here, so Columbus could be looking like a nice alternative.

Hi Katie, with Newberry being sent down is there an indication that Jesper Fast will now be added to the roster? Especially since it looks like the Rangers will be quiet at the trade deadline.

Believe that there is a good chance the Rangers stand pat at the deadline -- I wrote as much last week -- but not quite sure on Fast. Seems like the team is still trying to get a read on what he can do and whether they want to keep him around. Also some issues with that vis a vis roster flexibility.

Nope. And ultimately, I don't think he should, either. To blame all this on Tortorella would be a pretty gross oversimplification. The team simply does not have the right group.I'd expect some significant re-tooling this summer. Still a very good core to build from, but they have some serious needs to address and the off-season is likely the best time for them to do it.

Makes sense, just look at the scenario.

I'd expect a lot of dead weight to be cut at the deadline, and then even more at the draft/during the off-season. Gaborik is a goner. Boyle is a goner. No way Asham skates here for the 2nd year of that deal. Pyatt probably in the same boat as Asham. Richards will be an amnesty buyout. Already that's five faces that need replacing. That's only the forwards, too.

Hamrlik will be gone. Eminger, gone. Gilroy, gone. Sauer probably won't be tendered.

Pretty much guaranteed to be on next year's opening roster are only: Nash, Stepan, Hagelin, Kreider (maybe, could be in the A who knows with this coach), Miller, Callahan. Six forwards. Staal, McDonagh, Girardi, Del Zotto. Four defenseman.

I'd suspect Torts hangs around, and the Rangers retool trying to put together a team that more generally reflets the 11/12 team. Is that the right decision? IMO, no. I like a lot of the pieces here, and feel a coaching and philosophy change is necessary. I think Rangers management is loyal to Torts at the moment though.

I thought Nash was supposed to be "the last piece," now they need "significant retooling" instead of just giving Tortorella a well-earned ax.

Yes. Because we all know he really sucks now :sarcasm:

What we do know about Gaborik is that he isn't a player that totally picks teams apart. A very good goal scorer, but not the kind of player that you fear. Unless you're the Rangers when he scored five, or a crappy Leafs/Isles squad.
