That would make our defense ridiculously good, but his cap hit is almost 7M, we can't afford that next year.

Even though the Rangers do need a hard shooting Dman for the PP, Dan Boyle is a bad option imo. He still has a year on his contract, and it will make a serious headache for our resigns. It only works if your sending Gabs the other way. In that scenario all we have done is just replace one contract for the other. That doesn't work for SJ or us imo.

Clowe, doesn't have any of those problems considering that he would be gone by the summer. He is low risk depending on the price tag.

He's "averaged 54 points/season over the past four seasons"?

Really? Hrm. Missed that.

Oh, and Callahan isn't a third line player, either. Last year Callahan had the highest ATOI of any Rangers forward. Look it up.
It was a poorly executed joke.

Gaborik for Boyle makes no sense for either team. The only way we can afford Boyle would be if the Sharks retain almost half his salary.

The way some people on here have a hard on for him makes him sound really good, so what makes people think we get him for something like boyle + 2nd?

Ahh yes, some people on here. GMs read this board in order to gauge trade values you know.

Clowe brings a lot. He would be an asset to this team. Any team, which is why a bunch want him. But anybody who pays that price for him has a hole in their head.

based on what he's done this year (and with him being an UFA), I fail to see how he would be an asset to us.

STATS STATS STATS!

You do realize he brings things OTHER than scoring, right?

just be honest that you don't really know much about the player already

The Rangers problem is scoring goals... Clowe has 0 at the moment. whether its a down season or not is irrelevant. He can bring anything else to the team (size, grit, toughness, fighting) and he wont help what THE problem of this team is, scoring goals.

Yes, because this team couldn't use anymore of that

wake up, the Rangers have even more problems then just scoring goals

Big body left wing with experience that they can plug in various areas of the lineup. He doesn't even have to score, if he can effectively create space for a guy like Richards/Gabs; he will have been worth it. Lets be honest here, Clowe would be the most physical LW we would have on this team.

It can't hurt us, its worth a shot. If its a bust, you just don't resign the guy.

Well, that's why his shoulder injury is a concern.
Will he be tentative on the forecheck, can he drop'em?
The "intangibles" go out the window if he is playing through an injury, especially the shoulder.

I'm not saying I wouldn't take him period. I already said he would be an upgrade to the bottom 6, but thats what we should be trying to buy him as, because thats the player he seems to be now.

Not doubting that at all, which is why you don't give up what the Sharks want to get him. In a bubble, which is what we are talking about, that's what he brings.
