Richards could come alive, score at a 2ppg pace for the rest of the season, lead the team to a Stanley Cup this season, have a 100pt campaign and deep into the playoffs next season, and he'd still pretty much be a guaranteed amnesty because of the risk of him retiring early and destroying the team with that cap hit.

At this point, I really don't see anyway that we don't buy him out. With the new rules, it's a necessity. And to be quite honesty, it's wrong that the players before the CBA aren't grandfathered in.

Bingo. We can turn his 9 year contract into a 3 year contract that would have otherwise been impossible thanks to the amnesty buyout. We dump him right before his decline/early penalized retirement. It sucks for Richards but it's just business.

Looks like Iginla is finally on the move - he's a healthy scratch tonight. Boston is the team people are speculating he's been traded to.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Initially today, rumors out of BOS were Jordan Caron and Matt Bartkowski were perhaps moving. Bartkowski scratched, Caron in, Krug called up

Then BOS prospect Alex Khokhlachev a healthy scratch for Providence tonight and CGY announces Iginla a healthy scratch tonight.

Renaud Lavoie @RenLavoieRDS
Flames: Jarome Iginla healty scratch tonight. #RDS

Apparently Khokhlachev is scratched for Providence.

I am sure the Flames are getting more than just the two guys scratched but this is fun waiting to see what happens, have to think its real close

Have no quotes, but Dreger was on NHL Live this afternoon, and said he knows for a fact the Rangers would love to get Ryan Clowe, but not at the price the Sharks are asking.

He would fit what they need, just not sure the cost although if Pitt and Bos make their big moves already that's 2 possible suitors gone.

Wow, if Chia gets Iginla without giving up Subban, I can't even hate haha. Feaster must already have his resume out there for a new job.

McKenzie on TSN here in Canada, in between the first and second periods of the Habs-Bruins game, says he expects the Rangers to acquire Clowe. Clowe has a NMC, and yet McKenzie expects he would waiver to come to New York. McKenzie also opined that Clowe would fit in nicely in the Rangers top-6 and would most likely regain his scoring touch. McKenzie was the only one of the panel of Dreger, McKenzie, Aaron Ward and Craig Button that believed we would wind up with Clowe.

Not against the idea of Clowe.

The reality is a different story though.

He's got 0 goals, has been injured constantly, and the asking price is apparently a 1st/2nd and prospect. :amazed:

No thanks at that price.

Please god no.

0 goals in 25 games. Yeah he'll help out the abysmal scoring in the top 6.

I will be so pissed if the Rangers get him.

Same panel speculated that it would be a top prospect and a first rounder. Khokhlachev and a first?? That does not seem that expensive to me, but then again, I have never seen Khokhlachev...too bad we don't have a first.

How is Clowe going to help our scoring problem?

The guys we have are more talented and can't even help it most of the time.

if the Rangers got Clowe for Boyle and Pyatt. i wouldnt mind... Sather maybe can work his magic :yo:

would be nice if Clowe pushes his way to the Rangers and makes the ransom less

He couldn't hurt. He would be a decent rental. He is UFA next season. So the Rangers aren't tied to any salary.

It all depends on what the package is. If he can for a reasonable price, I don't see the harm..

Is Clowe out of shape? Some SJ posters seem to think so. We've seen how out of shape veterans have performed this season for the Rangers (looking at you Richie and Hamr), how much of a value add is Clowe, and is he someone the Rangers could re-sign? What's the asking price, and is there any possibility there could be a package involving Boyle?

The asking price for Clowe was a first rounder and a top prospect earlier this season. How would you guys feel if the Rangers gave up Fasth and a 1st for him?

I like Clowe as a player and if the idea is to trade for him AND re sign him then I'm okay with it. LW. Tough. Poor season, maybe the price goes down?
