Well, with including European bidding cities and opening it up to 8 teams, those are good steps.

Also confirmed that it will rotate with the Olympics so one tournament every two years.

That's what I'd like. Two serious international tournaments, one every two years.

By the time I die we may hve something like what Soccer has, just on a smaller scale of countries.

Have no idea what you're referring to. That was my point all along. If you struggle with reading comprehension there are plenty of places and programs that can help you. If you wish to engage in the actual topic at hand, the ball is in your court. Otherwise, good day to you.
No, you said it doesn’t matter because they haven’t won recently

Nobody has won but Canada in two decades

Using your dumb logic there’s no reason to play at all lmfao

In reality you’re just afraid that Russia will win but it’s ok

Nobody is worried about Russia winning. Anything.

Would also prefer to have Russia present in international Ice Hockey.

But that ship has sailed (sunk?) for the foreseeable future or until major changes happens within what's currently known as Russia.

Nice job Bettman. So instead of participating in the Olympics, the greatest global sports platform ever conceived and the best way to grow the sport, you will have yet another event that nobody but people who already watch hockey are going to watch. I dont know why they didnt fire this dumb asshole 10 years ago.

@GKJ had something to say about this on the business board, and I paraphrase... it's not considered good yet because it's an unestablished tournament, just like when the World Baseball Classic started. It's an investment. The first WBC was thought of as kind of a joke, but with the last one, people were talking about it being some of the best baseball we've ever seen.

The NHL brass sees this also as more of an investment, and are betting that the hockey "delivers."

The real question is whether the World Championships are hosted in those years.

I'm sure the IIHF will want to do so, but you might see less star power in those years if guys are already going to the World Cup / Olympics.

Obviously you will still have guys who miss the NHL playoffs, but some of the marquee names from those eliminated teams likely won't want to do two tournaments.

Nah, at least for the time being, the "real question" is whether a World Cup happens in 2028. :) I get the point you're making, but I don't think the IIHF can/should plan their own schedule and tournaments around if the league & PA feel like/are capable of organizing a World Cup in a given year.

I think a 2028 World Cup is 50/50 at best... Or the "at least 8 teams, with games spanning two continents" version of it is. Wouldn't be shocked if it just ends up being another 4-Nations type deal. I mean the 4-Nations thing came about because the league/PA was unable to pull off organizing a WC.

I don’t disagree.

Their track record is not very good.
