Anaheim is a trillion times better than the Rangers. Bad comparison. They actually have a #1 center.

What do they have other than that? Anaheim's a one line team, but it's working so I guess you can't complain.

The kiss of death for this team is this team. I'd prefer Bernmeister over Sather at this point just to see something new.

I agree the team sucks but trading the captain is pretty much throwing in the towel. Trade him and Girardi and you can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

Maybe that's what this team needs, some trades that force them out of the playoffs, a retooling year.

Getting rid of Callahan would be the second dumbest thing this team could do, behind getting rid of Hank. He's our captain and the heart and soul of this team. Trading him would be the kiss of death for the team this season.

I'm seriously glad you guys aren't running the team.

Trading a 3rd line player is the kiss of death?

If you're gonna go there, then it has to be a full-on rebuild. Everybody goes but Hank, Mac, Step, Hags, Kreids, and the prospects. This team has had too many retools and they haven't done anything.

Yeah, 3rd line players score 20 goals a year....

You just killed any argument you were trying to make.

Ok, lets give $6mil per on a long term deal for an oft injured, worn down 20 goal man who best days are long behind him. Better?

I'd be good with it.

Callahan. Girardi. Staal. MDZ. Boyle. Pyatt. Pouliot. Moore. Brassard.

I'd trade them all.

I'd keep and re-sign Stralman. He can actually handle the puck.

I'd keep Zuccarello. He can make plays and is a RFA.

Quick 1 year rebuild. Re-stock the system. Take a huge step forward next year with a few more young players and tons of cap space to fill some important holes.

Who's saying give him $6M? I'm just saying don't give up on him right now. Give him a 3 or 4 year contract and if he's showing signs of breaking down then take a look at trading him. I just think it's stupid to trade the captain when you aren't a lottery team.

Why does it have to be a full-rebuild? Montreal did it. San Jose did it. Hell, they don't even need to miss the playoffs. In no way does it have to result in a full rebuild.

HOWEVER, I'd be just fine with a full rebuild, I'm just 99% sure it doesn't happen.

There's no way he doesn't get 6 mill or more on the open market. Look at Clarkson's abortion of a contract. The cap's going up. Truthfully, I won't be surprised if he gets 7 mill.

Why would he accept a 3 or 4 year deal? He will command 6 years easily. Clarkson got 6 years.

Let's assume he makes the same amount as Clarkson (which is probably the low-end of what he could get), 6 years @ 5.25 million/season. Happy now? Would you like that contract?

I wouldn't.

Letting him walk for nothing is beyond stupid. Idiotic franchises allow this to happen to them and it is what keeps them in mediocrity.

Those are the numbers hes going to command, or close to it. IMO he already shows signs of breaking down. That's why you make the move now. I don't see what being the captain has to do with it.

They don't have Sather running the team. And I don't know, I like to think Cally is a nice guy and would take a discount to stay here

As long as were stuck with the head cigar, id much rather see trades for younger players. Trades and negotiating non free agent contracts are what Slats is better at then anything else. Roll with it

I am not on the blow it up side I'm on the retool the bottom 6

Kreider, Stepan, Nash
Hagelin, Brassard, Callhan
Zuccarello, Richards( buyout next yr) , Dorsett
X, X , X

all the above stay. Boyle, Pyatt, Pouliott, Asham, Powe, Moore are all UFA and should all get lost.

If they can make a deal with Boyle and one other scrub from that list for a gritty guy that can help both this yr and next you do it.

I can live with Lindberg and/or Miller at 3rd line C as long as they get their ice time.

You can rejigger the bottom six in any fantasy way you wat, but that top six is still bad.

How many years did Clarkson get? 7. Callahan will command 7 as a free agent. The Rangers can not under any circumstances sign Callahan to a 7 or 8 year contract. The Rangers can give him 8 because he is their player. He will be 29. Clarkson took less money to sign in Toronto after Edmonton offered more dollars.

Same thing with Girardi. He has two young children to support and this is his last contract. 7 or 8 for him too. These players see the cap going up. They want to get paid. You can't blame them. You can't blame Cano for taking 10 years and $240M instead of 7 years and $175M. Girardi will be 30.

That's the issue with Callahan and Girardi.

The Rangers really didn't want to give Henrik 7 years but they wanted to get the contract done. They offered six. He wanted eight.

Callahan and Girardi aren't Lundqvist. Both of them are good players. They're not the best player at their positions.

Business is business.

Not only that, but what has Montreal accomplished? Or San Jose for that matter?

Both have shown to be playoff fodder.

SJ is a very good team, but there's something missing when you fail in the PO's year in and year out.

Montreal is having a decent season.....and?

Another team that lacks something.

I definitely think that its a tremendous misstake not to give him a long contract.

Like, I can't see a single reason for why we shouldn't give him a long contarct.
