I agree with this. Staal is a shell of himself right now. Girardi is at the point of high risk, low reward contract. Unless it is a similar cap hit to Ericsson from Detroit, I do not do it. 4 years at most for G. Should trade him. McIlrath is almost ready for NHL minutes. Mcdonagh, Del Zotto, Moore down the left side. Girardi could net a younger RHD as well. Stralman, McIlrath, RHD/Falk. Staal could return a couple pieces as well, maybe a RHD for LHD swap.

Seriously?

McD - Stralman
DZ - McIlrath
Moore - Falk

????????

Just threw up everywhere.

If we're trading G AND Staal (mistake) we're getting D back. Believe that.

How can they not? It has their name on the back. I would think there is some relevance to why individual jersey sales are mentioned so frequently. I would find it hard to believe an agent wouldn't fight hard for some percentage of those sales.

I'm not really up on it, but I'd imagine that the royalties go to the union and are divided up amongst all players. Or something to that extent.

I don't get why people are talking about Schenn and other Flyers. The Flyers are no longer sellers and probably fancy themselves as better than the Rangers. Also Holmgren will go into buy mode.

Brett Connolly is who the Rangers should be after. Del Zotto could be in play there. Maybe Girardi. Maybe you can get a guy like Killorn back for Girardi's inclusion if you fiddle around a bit. I also think they either need to find a center or trade up for one at the draft. Not sure if Vancouver would do it, but I would think very hard about something along the lines of Callahan for Kesler. Throw in Brassard, maybe John Moore who we know Torts loves. It's tough to find a Callahan trade, but if you move him you have to get something established back.

Also I am going to continue to bang the drum on Kevin Klein. He is a minutes eater at RHD who is under team control at a minuscule cap hit. If the opening night defense next year contains McDonagh, Staal, Moore, Stralman, Klein and McIlrath I would be relatively happy.

I really don't see how trading Schenn for Del Zotto would be "selling" but to each their own.

Kulikov would be a nice add. He could do with a change of scenery to get away from that horrible team, but swapping him for Del Zotto makes no sense.

My edit came after your post. Added a possible Staal for Faulk swap. Would resolve the RHD top 4 player. If traded, Staal or G need to be dealt for a RHD, the other for a top 6 forward.

i like mark stone up in ott and love buffs joel armia.

both young shooters/snipers. we need that. we need to start to address our organizational weakness and our recent poor drafting.

the moves we make today need to be to get younger, bigger and stronger but all based on guys who can bring it.

the odds of bringing in a guy(s) who can help us immediately and in the future are pretty slim unless were willing to move some serious talent the other way.

I hate the LA Kings comparison also. The Jeff Carter deal was flukey because of his chemistry with Richards, and Carter would not have even been available if he didn't dog it in Columbus. As much as I would love to trade Del Zotto for Dubinsky, there is not a Carter trade out there for the a Rangers.

The kinds of players that the Rangers need are exactly the kinds of players that smart teams don't trade away. They either need to change their draft strategy or chloroform some other GMs. I still don't know what the Rangers identity is, and neither does half the people on this board. This is clear because half the posters what big tough guys and half the posters want skilled guys. The sad thing is somehow, the Rangers have neither, and god knows Sather won't hit the restart button. Sather is complacent because he knows he has a lifetime contract.

Which we should. No bandaids that have no real impact. I wouldn't mind the Rangers making a big splash here. The core that we have are complacent and are consistently mediocre. This team, as constructed, will not win the cup. Bringing in 3rd/4th liners will get us nowhere.

This organization needs to pick a clear identity that works, and stick to it. Get rid of players who do not fit to bring the ones in who do.

I may be biased, I do really like Zibanejad a lot. But in my mind, a sensible move - in terms of setting the club up for the future while also remaining competitive this year, would be to trade Del Zotto and a prospect, let's say one with relative upside like Fast or Kristo (and no I don't view either a throw in, i'm very high on both) for him.

Understanding that Ottawa has an internal budget, and that there's roughly 1 million dollar's in difference between Del Zotto and Zib, the Rangers could further sweeten the deal by eating that difference. Under the new CBA they'll be able to eat up to half of Del Zotto's salary.

Now, let's say that Ottawa accepts this offer. By no means does this assumption mean they'll do it in reality, but let's assume that for the point of argument they accept it.

The Rangers could then bring up McIlrath to assess his development. Let's say this deal happens before Christmas and McIlrath is given give or take a month and 3/4 (Excluding Olympics) to show what he has.

At that time, the Rangers can decide on Girardi's future. If McIlrath is viewed as first pairing material, Girardi would (and should) be moved for the success of the franchise moving past this year.

Meanwhile, we have just traded for our 2c that we are in desperate need of.

Back to reality, if Del Zotto can somehow net Zib, i'd say it would be the best move of the club. It fills a need, even if we're giving away a prospect, and helps the club assess other assets and what they're worth to the team moving forward.

Girardi shouldn't be in the longterm plans. Furthermore, Moore needs to be played over Falk, eventually. Staal is the next player up in terms of assessment relative to worth to the club. Rangers management needs to see what they have in Moore and in McIlrath before either Staal or Girardi are moved.

Ottawa wouldn't trade Zibanejad for Bobby Ryan. Zibanejad will not be a Ranger. Rangers could not even get Mark Stone from Ottawa who cannot skate, or Zack Smith, who will never be a top 6 player.

Let's keep the ideas fresh people.

Anaheim got a very good package for Ryan. Silfverberg was as highly regarded in Ottawa as Zibanejad is/was(?).

So what you are saying is... if they offer Ottawa MDZ for Bobby Ryan, they should come back with, "take Zibanejad instead."

What are they waiting for?

Step 1. Ask for teams best player for MDZ

Step 2. Team offers 2nd best player.

Step 3. ???????

Step 4. Profit

Kulikov and Matthias for DZ, Pyatt & 3rd rounder? I'd do that.

KHL risk. Dude will want McD money maybe more as he is a safe bet to earn quite a bit in Russia tax free. Kulikov presents good lateral value for DZ.

I would much rather do Pyatt and 3rd for Matthias, although I think he goes for much more.

Mark Stone is hurt every other month. Would pass on him. Plus he isnt a goal scorer he is a playmaker with bad skating ability.

Very talented player, but don't think he can put any weight on. Hasn't really filled out, and his game with a skinny frame is a Benoit Pouliot minus skating ability. Mark Stone is a bad skater.

While the Panthers are willing to move some of their veteran forwards, such as Tomas Fleishmann or Scottie Upshall, the more intriguing name making the rounds is that of young blue-liner Dmitry Kulikov, who is RFA after the season. There is perhaps fear he'll want big money or go to Russia next season, which is why he's being made available, but he's certainly worth a gamble in my books for teams looking to upgrade their blue-line.

Thankfully the Rangers haven't been linked to Kulikov.

Every time I see RB being the last post on this thread my hopes get high that he'll have copied a link saying the Rangers got a coup for Del Zotto.

EVERY TIME.

how about

Matt Kassian and Mark Borowiecki to Rangers for Benoit Pouliot

this solves the problem. it gets toughness up front and on defense.. and these players would upgrade the grit on this team... Borowiecki is a 24 year old dman.. a lot tougher than Falk.. currently in the AHL but has played some games in the NHL..

I don't think there's a team in the league who would give up players whose names we know for Benoit Pouliot.
