I didn't see that shot, but I did see the one of Del Zotto right after--kid looked like he was just informed he got the death penalty. I honestly don't get it. The 3-game benching came on the heels of some of MDZ's best hockey of the season. Yet AV insists on A- Playing him on his off side, and B- making him feel like the slightest mistake will put him off the ice for another multi-game stretch.
Del Zotto pressed to try and create offense. That's what everyone said they wanted out of him. They said they didn't want him playing it safe, because the team already had 4 stay at home, defense first guys. When a player tries to create offense, things like that miscue will happen, especially on the wrong side of the ice (did anyone else notice that Del Zotto's best plays tonight, on both sides of the puck, came from the left?). I've done plenty of coaching, and I can tell you that you never want one of your players to have the look on his face that Del Zotto had after the error. Playing with fear just leads to more errors. This is a kid who needs to be supported and picked up (and if you watched the very end of the game, you saw Zucc and Henrik doing just that).
Bottom line is that if AV won't put the player in a position to succeed and then roasts that player for one mistake in an otherwise good game, then they should move him, because that's just not fair to the team or the player. Even if AV doesn't want the player, however, that doesn't change the fact that he has a LOT more value around the league than a lot of Ranger fans seem to recognize. You don't move an asset if the return doesn't improve the team, and most of the proposals I've seen from other Rangers fans don't actually improve this team.
