Del zotto with another terrible game....if sens would give up cowen you take that and run. 3.1 locked up for 3 more years. 6'5 225' left side. No more all the talent no brains or heart players.

Oh for ****'s sake. He did not have a terrible game. He had ONE mistake in an otherwise very good game. He had a beauty of a pass to Kreider that resulted in a prime scoring chance in the second, another pass to Callahan just after that that would have been a great chance if Cally had hands, and a number of good defensive plays.

He made ONE mistake, and it's not like it was something ridiculously glaring (like passing the puck to the other team in his own zone). He had a miscue with Brassard, and typically all the "YARGH DEL ZASTER!!" idiots pop out of the woodwork.

Yeah, whether or not he had a good game besides that play is almost irrelevant, that play is what everyone is going to remember.

Did you see the bench shot of AV shaking his head and looking to the heavens after that play? Unless he was pissed at Brassard (which I highly doubt), that did not bode well for MDZ.

Now, that doesn't mean he's gone - the one thing Slats is good at is trading, and I highly doubt he does anything reactionary based on game - but MDZ is going to have an awfully difficult time winning his way back into the coaching staff's good graces any time soon IMO.

DZ was horrible? I saw one horrible play, not a horrible game. Guess he is the new whipping boy until Boyle messes up

Really? DZ had a bad game? I don't know what you guys are watching, but it ain't a hockey game. It looks like you are hoping/praying for him to fail. And this is after a win.

Here is what I think, he had an excellent game he was passing well, defending well, Not sure if it's a coincidence, but the team scores more goals when he plays, the transition game is smoother.

This board will not change, when they have their fangs on a player, they won't let go until he is shipped out Just to prove they have been right.
Sad state of affairs, but it is what it is.

To be honest, i rather keep DZ unless we get a good player back for him. I know he may be able to get us a young winger back but why not give him more time on the left before they move him?

Agreed, sad. He was noticeable. One bad mistake and everyone hates him

I didn't see that shot, but I did see the one of Del Zotto right after--kid looked like he was just informed he got the death penalty. I honestly don't get it. The 3-game benching came on the heels of some of MDZ's best hockey of the season. Yet AV insists on A- Playing him on his off side, and B- making him feel like the slightest mistake will put him off the ice for another multi-game stretch.

Del Zotto pressed to try and create offense. That's what everyone said they wanted out of him. They said they didn't want him playing it safe, because the team already had 4 stay at home, defense first guys. When a player tries to create offense, things like that miscue will happen, especially on the wrong side of the ice (did anyone else notice that Del Zotto's best plays tonight, on both sides of the puck, came from the left?). I've done plenty of coaching, and I can tell you that you never want one of your players to have the look on his face that Del Zotto had after the error. Playing with fear just leads to more errors. This is a kid who needs to be supported and picked up (and if you watched the very end of the game, you saw Zucc and Henrik doing just that).

Bottom line is that if AV won't put the player in a position to succeed and then roasts that player for one mistake in an otherwise good game, then they should move him, because that's just not fair to the team or the player. Even if AV doesn't want the player, however, that doesn't change the fact that he has a LOT more value around the league than a lot of Ranger fans seem to recognize. You don't move an asset if the return doesn't improve the team, and most of the proposals I've seen from other Rangers fans don't actually improve this team.

How about a trade with packages from both teams centered around DZ for Stone + Ceci?

Big, young power forward to put into the bottom 6 for the future (and a righty!) and a recent first rounder young defenseman (and a righty!)

DZ's performance tonight is gonna make for some knee jerk proposals. I know we want a proven top 6 player but if we can't swing anything with anyone, would anyone be interested in a package centered around these players? Do we have to add? Do we get boned? Is this okay? Is it worth it to send him away for unproven prospects with potential who would fill needs for us in the next 2-3 years?

I don't know how to trades.

For the record, I agree with everything you wrote here. I've been saying forever that they need to either move him back to the left side or move him to another team.

That's not how you respond to being scratched. Those are the plays that got him scratched. Regardless of how people think he played outside of that mistake it's all that really matters at this point. He's struggled to learn from his mistakes for a long time.

I'm sure people will say he was scratched for three games and was rusty if they haven't already, but the truth is that's a no brainer.

If the only way to avoid being scratched is to have a perfect game with no mistakes, then Ryan McDonagh is going to be a very lonely man on the ice for 60 minutes a game.

And I agree with this too.

None of this is inconsistent, guys. MDZ is a damn fine player on the left side. Unfortunately, the team has decided they like McD, Staal and Moore on the left, so they play MDZ on the right. MDZ is a tentative, mistake prone player on the right who makes the same mistakes (ones he avoids on the left for some reason) over and over again.

The situation is unsustainable. Something's got to give.

The way to avoid being scratched is to not make the same mistakes repeatedly. Especially simple ones like knowing when to pinch.

I've always been impressed when watching Cowen, but doubt they'd wanna part with him in a deal for MDZ. The point in acquiring Mike would be to add to their D.
