We need a sniper for balance sake.

We need someone who can finish. Doesn't need to be a sniper. Simmonds/Moulson good for 30 goals just by posting in front of the net and cleaning the scraps. Sometimes someone who can clean the scraps is more valuable than someone who is purely offensive.

I'd argue Simmonds would be more integral to our success than Yakupov would be despite the fact that he's not as offensively talented.

Callahan will destroy the 1st line

Not really. He's still getting in the swing of things. Didn't get a chance to get his feet from under him from the shoulder surgery, then he rushed back from a broken thumb.

He has chemistry with Richards. Nash needs protection too. No wonder teams take runs at him, no one to stand up. Cally, albeit not the biggest enforcer, wouldn't stand for that. He's also a garbage goal kind of guy. Every top line needs one. Hagelin is more of a puck retriever. Cally would benefit that line more.

I doubt anybody will be afraid of Callahan dude. Every top line needs one i agree but i prefer him on the 2nd line

I didn't say intimidating factor. I said someone who's on the ice that protects him. Cally dishes out big hits and doesn't take ****. He's the leader of this team. He needs to be with our best player, who is concussion prone due to dirty hits.

Cally is at best a very good 3rd liner on a top team. He's my favorite ranger but let's not oversell the guy. He's 100% effort no doubt but talent wise, he's a 3rd liner on a good team.

The fact that some here want him on line 1 speaks volumes about our lack of offensive talent.

Would love to get Simmonds, but it's not happening.

I don't care if we get a sniper or not, but at the very least, we need someone who can put the puck in the net at a Top-6 pace. We also need a bottom-pair RD, preferably young and cost-controlled. A trade with a team with a glut of RDs makes sense. What does WPG's RD depth look like?

I'm with you. Our change of scenery guy for their change of scenery guy. Not sold on Brassard as the 2nd line center going forward. Schenn plays C and LW.

When's the last time Philly and NYR traded though? Lindros? It was before Holmgren became GM for sure.

Schenn? Seriously? Beyond his former rep as "the top prospect in the league," what exactly makes you think Brayden Schenn is a valuable piece? The team needs goalscorers, and this board wants to trade a high demand asset for a guy whose career high is 12 goals and would be on his 3rd team by age 22. :shakehead

If we can't get prime value for Del Zotto, there is no point in moving him. For anyone not paying attention, we need scoring. Our best offensive defensemen might not be the piece we want to consider moving.

And Callahan on the 1st line will do what exactly? He may wear the C but he isnt a captain imo. Great player but leadership material? Arguable. Callahan on the 1st line shows how badly we need scoring

That's wrong. Moulson isn't a 1st line guy. Neither is Simmonds. Clarkson was a 1st liner last year?

You need players to clean up the garbage. A lot of garbage goals to be had. Cally isn't afraid to do that.

He has the best net hands on the entire team. We already have enough trouble scoring, so I really don't feel like dropping Callahan's minutes is the answer...

Yak is absolutely flying out there for Edmonton tonight. One game against Columbus is one game against Columbus, but I hope we've been sending a feeler or two out. I'm sure the price is too high but it's a sliver of a chance of doing something really special.

MDZ is wasted if he's not getting Top-4 minutes on the left side. It's no coincidence that he's played the best hockey of his NHL career as our 2LD with PP time (before the emergence of McD and while Staal has been injured).

I would actually advocate trading Staal before MDZ, but seeing as that's not going to happen, we should get the best haul we can while improving our team. Him sitting in the press box because he can't handle playing on the right helps no one.

Why cant they put Moore on the right side and put MDZ on the left? Can we at least see what he does on the left before we trade him?

I love Girardi as much as anyone but hes looked like a square peg in a round hole in this new defensive system, it really does not fit him at all, and that not to say hes lost a step or somehow forgot how to play defense he just excels in a zone style where he can use his positioning and shot blocking expertise, this isnt that system anymore and honestly i think sather needs to explore his options when it comes to trading Girardi before were forced to pay him in the offseason.

I still like my DZ-Kristo-MSC offer for Yak, but looking for other alternatives...

How about DZ-Miller-Kristo for Yak-Petry?
if those offers were enough to get it done yak would be a ranger right now.

I see almost NO situation EDM gives up Petry. They need defense. Why would they give it up?

Not a fan of trading Kristo. He's a shoot first finisher, we NEED players like him, not less.

They should definitely try this at some point. At least put him in the best position to succeed in order to evaluate whether he should be traded once and for all.

Exactly. If he sucks on the right, play him at left, just to make sure we wanna trade him. Not sure what the rush is to trade him

I just don't get why he's in the press box and not on the 3rd pair LD over Moore. Moore has not looked any better this season, even with playing his natural side.

Having MDZ on his natural side and on the power play improves this team. Trading him for middle six guys or bottom pair defensemen? That's getting rid of an asset and bringing in more of what we've already got. We're loaded with middle six. We need a top line guy. We're loaded with bottom pair defensemen. We need a guy who can bump Stralman to the bottom pair. If we can't get that? Then why weaken the team by moving a guy who brings more than any middle sixer would?

Also, and take this in the spirit that it's intended, as McD is one of my favorite players in the game--I'm wary about any declaration of his arrival on the offensive side of the puck. He's been great this season, but two of his four goals were flukey shots from his own end (he'd be the first one to tell you that neither were intentional), and (I'd have to double check on this to be certain) he has yet to post a primary assist this season. Again, he's been great, but he's not really driving the offense the way a good puck mover would (and the way MDZ has in the past). His numbers have been based more on hustle and being in the right place at the right time.

We're not getting a young bonfide player like Evander Kane for Del Zotto. Anyone coming back is going to have a question mark. For Del Zotto, the Rangers should be looking to acquire someone that is 22-24 years old and ready to break out. Schenn wasn't traded by LA because they soured on his development. They make that Richards deal 10 out of 10 times and not think twice.

Schenn is the 3rd line center on Philly right now behind Giroux and Lecavalier, and that's not even including Couturier. Philly has tremendous wing depth as well. There's no room for him. Schenn is a top 6 player for the future. He'll get there, but he's not going to fulfill his potential in Philly with all those players ahead of him on the depth chart.

How about this: NYR and Philly

Del Zotto, Zuccarello and a 2nd for Matt Read and Hartnell and a pick?

Hartnell-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Brassard-Read
Hagelin-Richards-Callahan
Pouliot-Boyle-Dorsett

Not much thought but just a trade idea. might have missed a player or two

I just feel that Yakupov is going nowhere this season, now or later. He is too good a talent. The Oilers have some other pieces, and it is entirely possible that management has the OK from ownership to feel it all out and take a bit longer to figure who is traded and who stays.
To everyone watching the Oilers, it seems like the heat and the pressure is on them. What if that is not the case from within and they just keep checking all their top rated talent out for a while yet?
I think Lowe is not a good management guiy and that they are already blowing it, but I am just talking about a possible explanation for the Oilers lack of movement.
Or I am all wet and they make a big splashy trade soon, but i seriously doubt it.
