He was only a -4 last year, so he obviously knew how to play defense then. Either that or +/- is a silly stat.

I agree it's a flawed stat. But when you're a purported offensive player and you're more or less an average if -1 a game, it may not tell the full story, but it tells some story.

I think there is little chance that DZ gets traded tonight, if there was a trade in the works wouldn’t he be scratched to avoid him getting hurt, and thus voiding the trade?

I don't think they'd scratch MDZ unless a deal for Yokelpahv was agreed upon and imminent. We aren't at that point yet.

No I agree, that was my response to the person who had a source that said DZ is 95% getting traded today or tomorrow. If that were the case a deal with be imminent and DZ would probably be scratched tonight.

Dallas Eakins of EDM said today that EDM and Yak are attached by the hip. Yak's not going anywhere.

The person said within the week and didn't mention Yogipolv.

And we don't know what constitutes a week for the source. It could run Monday-Sunday.

I'd hate to see miller go but if it's del zotto miller and 2nd I'm cool with it. Gotta give to get

Ok so likely today vs 95% this week, still I doubt he’d be playing if a deal was imminent as that prediction would indicate.
Players are rarely held out of the lineup because of trades this early in the season.

Gaborik

Portzline:
To my knowledge, Gaborik has always been regarded as a decent to good teammate, but never a leader. But he's never been 31 years old, right? Gaborik is the 2nd oldest player on the Blue Jackets, trailing only Derek MacKenzie (32). It's not enough to be a $7 million man and provide only on the ice. That's essentially Jarmo Kekalainen's stance. He wants a player who drives the team. Is that realistic? I can't answer that right now. I don't think anybody can. I can say this: there was not a noticeable uptick in Gaborik's play after Kekalainen made those comments. But now is the time.

He isn't changing his game at this stage of his career.

Comment From Dale
Afternoon, good sir. A report in the Edmonton Journal is saying that the Jackets are trying to move Nikitin. What could they get for him? What is the likelihood of seeing any package deals or other trades? If this team is even relatively healthy after Horton, Calvert, and Jenner are back, they will have 14 forwards, that's not including Chaput and Collins. If a trade does happen, which forwards would be most likely to go?

Portzline:
Very hard to say, and I'm not going to guess. The Oilers are looking for defense; the Blue Jackets -- with Erixon and Goloubef in the minors, and either Nikitin and Prout a healthy scratch -- only make sense as a trade partner. But the Oilers and the Blue Jackets are struggling right now, so perhaps they'd like to mix things up with a trade. And, you know, Scott Howson has traded for Nikita Nikitin in a previous life.

*watches as MDZ skates the length of the ice tonight and thrusts himself with all his momentum through the glass panes intentionally to injure himself and avoid a trade to edmonton*

I don't buy into this management lol.

Do they buy into common sense? You are about to trade an asset, why risk having that asset be injured?
What's the chances that he gets seriously injured enough to prevent a trade?
