Freaking out over Yakupov's lack of production is ridiculous and overblown. Because there hasn't been a lack of production. He's had a tough start to his sophomore campaign. Oh, the horror.
The problem with Yak is not his point production or lack thereof this year, it's this
The Blueshirts are likely one of the few teams in the NHL apt to even consider trading for the skilled but finicky 20-year-old Russian, whom many in the industry believe is difficult to coach and liable to bolt for the KHL, an international league based in Russia.
The question is how much do you value him with the risk? EDM fans want dollar for dollar because he was first over all and has great potential. But the risks have to be part of the trade value.

Not quite sure how you're looking at this. Nash is out for possibly forever. We need to look at his replacement here in this deal. Krieder looks like something is clicking, what you wait to see in all your promising young players.

Yak could be our Gaborik. We need to accumulate scorers not swap spots.
I would rather trade a defenseman, but I absolutely would trade Kreider if that's what it took.

You'll have to refer to the time any of those player's publicly stated they aren't willing to change the way they play the game to become a better player. I dont give a **** if Yakupov is from Russia or Mars, that type of attitude is the alarming part, not the lack of production this season. Amazing you could get so indignant when looking at the situation in such a vacuum.

Not arguing for or against it, but Eakins isn't the GM and with the way they do things in Edmonton they could tell him one thing and then do another. Hell, he might even get fired haha. They love to replace coaches over there.

Personally, I see a deal similar to this:

MDZ, McIllrath, Pyatt/Mashinter, 2nd rounder

for

Yakupov and Steve Macintyre

I think the deal will happen personally. I've always felt MDZ would get dealt during this season or in this offseason.

Kessel and Gaborik certainly don't do any of the things Yakupov said he didn't like.

The kid moved to Canada at 16 and moved his mom and sister to EDM to live with him, now all off a sudden he wants to go back to Russia? Not buying it, he has no allegiance to Russia.

He's 20. Look at a player like Kessel. Immature and one dimensional when he broke in, and was for several years. It took him awhile to mature, but he did, and he's now one of the best players in the NHL. Yak's a kid, still, and kids say dumb things all the time.

Those comments are so. incredibly. overblown.

The dude speaks in broken english, yet we refuse to accept that maybe he could have misspoke, or meant something other than what it sounded like? It's just as plausible that he meant he wasn't an energy/grinder type of player like a Dustin Brown or Brandon Prust. He says he wants to work on his game without the puck, but doesn't want to get away from playing "his game." What player would actually be stupid enough to say that he doesn't want to skate and forecheck? The kid was just saying, in broken freakin' english, that he doesn't play a grinding, high energy type game. What exactly is wrong with that?

Overblown.

"When he first came to us he wanted days off and he didn’t think he needed to practice all the time."

Torts on Gaborik

Why do people think he's going to bolt to Russia? The kid picked up his life and played Juniors in Canada. He wants to play in the NHL. He's probably a little frustrated right now, and is going through a slump. Do you truly believe it's going to last? Because I don't. This team is desperate for talent and he's got it and people don't want to make the trade because of his defensive effort. If this kid is truly available, get him in a Rangers sweater. A lot of you wanted a tank and a top 5 pick? Here it is. If it could be had for one of our excess LHD man (not named McD), or McIlrath, or Kreider, get it done.

At the draft combine, Ovechkin was asked what he thought about America. He said he was a good skater.

rather get someone a little more useful like Ben Eager or Tyler Pitlick over MacIntyre. Rangers dont need John Scott part 2 :shakehead even if he is a throw in, it is not worth trading for him.

Was this from an interview in English or Russian? If it was in Russian I'd like to listen to it to see if the translation is correct.

the most id deal for Yakupov would be

Del Zotto, Brian Boyle, Mats Zuccarello and 2ed in 2014. no way id trade Kreider or Miller unless Rangers get a same type of prospect (size with speed, skating, grit) in the deal to replace them......

Well, that settles that.

Somebody should tell Eakins that, because if hes as special as everyone thinks he is and is a victim of being misquoted, there should be zero reason why hes stapled to the bench most nights.

Well that settles it. I wanted Yakupov before you convinced me he's disrespectful!

You sound like somebody who has never played organized sports in their life. Talent trumps all, huh? Despite a potential issue of being a ******* to his coaches and teammates? Theres how you build a team.

Alex Burmistrov said he hated the KHL, that it was for "old men" and he came over to North America to play in the OHL. Yet here he is playing in the KHL. You really never know what a person will do in the future, even if they said something to the contrary in the past. The fact is a lot of players -- not just Russians, but they're the majority -- use the KHL as leverage if they don't get what they want. Despite what people may say to the contrary, it's always going to be an issue.
