From what I gather from Sather's routinely muddled message about the team's direction, they wanted to move away from shot-blocking gritty play to one of skating and skill. All they need now is the skill. A trade for Yakupov would move more towards that direction at least.

Its seriously flawed, but its something.

We are tied for the 2nd fewest goals for in the league with only the Flyers below us. Sure Yakupov has flaws, like most 20 year old players, but to scoff at acquiring him even though he will directly improve our biggest team flaw seems silly to me. Obviously the Rangers can't sell the farm for him, but if its a cost of Del Zotto, Miller and a 1st you have to do it.

Not giving a 1st for him. 2nd and that deal, yes. Rangers need to keep their first this year.

Yakupov certainly reeks of a Sather move. Too enticing to resist. Talent with questionable brains, heart and attitude. Once again a lion!

They were definitely scouting the Rangers. By most accounts, Del Zotto is available. He picked a good time to have a good game.

For those who don't want Yukupov. Who do you want? I read Kane trades. Is he even available? IF so, be prepared to surrender a lot. People on here still think they gave up too much for Nash. lol. I can't imagine what will be said in a Kane trade.

Well lets not go crazy. Less bad doesn't mean good. Still fumbled the puck at the blue line way to much, but the garbage goal he collected mitigated some of that and he did play better after scoring. I guess if they were going to scout one Del Zotto game this year they picked a good one.

Just don't come back to see him against the Pens.

Personally I have zero to little interest in Yakupov.

I think he could turn out to be more like Semin if he does make a career here, but I don't like the risks involved.

I also believe the scouts were probably looking at Andersen as much as DZ/Girardi, or whatever.

so instead of Yakupov could they not be looking at Gagner?

That's kind of how I feel. The Rangers certainly aren't going to finish low enough to get a top pick, and guys at this talent level are rarely available. Yakupov might be available and not for a kings ransom. The Rangers have to at least explore it as we definitely have a need for high end forwards, especially with Nash out indefinitely.

Yup. Status quo. He will get here and have a few good games, score some goals. Sather will be a genius again for a month. Trade wizardry!

Then Yokopov will stop skating, no backchecks. Gliding around the O zone waiting for his linemates to do all the work. That's not his game. He'll fizzle out and once again we'll be back to square one.

I'm not excited for this move if it is coming.

So two former firsts and a future first for a former, also unproven first overall?

:speechles

The more I think about it (and read the EDM board), I want nothing to do with this Yuckapov...

reminds me of Radulov....or Nikky Z. No, gracias

I just want the 11-12 team back (stomps feet and crosses arms like little girl)

Pretty much this. Talent is undeniable. MUCHmore so than even say, Zherdev for comparison. But yak still comes with some big question marks and seems like a typical lazy Ranger move.

Miller frustrates me at times, but he is not one of the kids I would be looking to trade away right now. He has some good potential in him.

Good question. Yakupov wasn't a real possibility a couple of weeks ago, now hes part of the plan. If that falls through, on to the next band-aid. And so it goes...

Stamkos struggled majorly and was said to be available. What if the Rangers had traded for him after he struggled?

Seguin struggled and had some question marks in Boston. Dallas seems pretty happy with him.

This type of thing happens. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, it should at least be looked at.

When the Edmonton old boys club is in town, it's tough to tell whether they are actually scouting or just shooting the **** and smoking a cigar with Sather.

Right. Plus, they could equally have been scouting the Ducks, since they have a lot of depth in the biggest thing the Oilers lack.

Neither Seguin nor Stamkos ever had their heart and intelligence questioned. Neither of them came in with a rep or at least with the worry that could become a prima donna. Neither of them were considered a risk to bolt to the KHL.

With that ****** attitude,Yakupov will be back in the KHL in 2 years. I want to play my way. Fantastic. I am AV will love to hear that. What's the name of the other highly touted Russian from the 2008 draft taken by Columbus? Filatov. Where is that guy? He was supposed to be different. Burmistrov. He went back because he didn't like Noel. He told Gordie Clark that he had no interest in the KHL. He was making no money playing in the CHL when he could be making good bucks in the KHL.
