why dont we just call up the Ferrarro brothers? didn't that always work in the past?

So the Rangers are talking trade with Detroit? I can see them being really interested in Girardi. All 6 starting defensemen are lefties. Fits their system.

If the Rangers can turn Girardi into Sproul and Tatar, I'll promise to not say "Fire Sather" for an entire week.

We would have to take back salary. Tootoo plus Sammy perhaps. Probably be something like Sammy, Tootoo, Tatar and a second for Girardi, Pyatt and a 4th. Then trade MDZ for a right D and a prospect /pick. Stocking up on picks. Maybe Fransson but Toronto also lacks lefties on D so that is probably not the scenario we could see. I also see a Brassard trade eminent. Do not see the Rangers wanting to qualify him even though they seriously will lack center depth when (not if) Richards is bought out. Could go a plethora of ways here - any ideas Bern?

The worst thing that can happen right now is that the Rangers go on a streak to give everyone hope. Anyone not in the plans beyond this year should go to the highest bidder. I could see the Detroit deal happening, but I'd rather have another prospect like Sproul, Jurco, or Ouelette instead of the 2nd rounder.

DZ will go for another change of scenery guy. Maybe make it a three way deal with Tampa and Florida in which Connolly and a pick goes to Florida, Del Zotto goes to Tampa, and the Rangers end up with Kulikov.

Brassard is anyone's guess. He should be traded if he's not in the plans beyond this year, though.

I eat crow- Nah, I don't believe in that. A good environment develops good players with high value. If we stink we will waste our kids and we will get nothing in return for vets that are pushed out.

I completely agree, which is why I'm in favor of trading pieces that aren't in the long term plans. It's better to get value for guys now before they have little or no value around the league. A 33 year old broken down Girardi will fetch less than he will now as a 29 year old rental.

I don't think Phaneuf is worth max. He'd need to put up Calgary Phaneuf numbers for that. Plus, the trouble also is if you give him max, what sort of message is that telling our other defensemen? You guys aren't worth half what this guy gets paid? if you want to get paid like that, don't bother resigning with us?

Also, the status of Michael Sauer remains a sore spot for me.

St.Louis Blues called up Dmitrij Jaskin...

maybe a showcase for a future trade..

if Rangers make a trade with Blues, Jaskin better be included... has size skill and is only 20 years old. he is the type of player teams part with at the deadline. if Girardi was dealt to the Blues, maybe something like Cole and Jaskin for Girardi.. Cole is a LD but 24 and adds some grit and toughness to the blueline..

Look at Edmonton. They're a joke and have been drafting in the top-10 for 6 out of the last 7 years. They keep throwing these incredibly skilled kids into the lineup, but then they fail to build a team around them. Now they've been praising these kids for years, and they've done nothing but lose. There's nobody there to teach them how to win. They brought in Ference, a cup winner, and he's had plenty to say about the team not knowing how to get it done. They play pond hockey.

Their management drools over the publicity they get when they have a #1 pick in the draft, but they have no idea how to build a team. They're the poster child for "blow it up and tank." They haven't pulled a decent NHL from beyond the 1st round since 2006 when they picked Petry in the 2nd, and people think OUR drafting is bad??

Steen was banged up and is DTD. Jaskin was recalled to take his place. He's a stud prospect. They aren't flipping him at the deadline unless it gets them a monster piece.

Trxjw- Good points.

Also, I wouldn't put it all on their scouts. I think they've made some good picks, but they have zero room to develop anyone in. A kid like MPS was a very good prospect, then he gets to sit back and get bad minutes on a horrible teams due to having two 1st overall picks infront of him...

Girardi would fit the Blues team perfectly. I wouldn't expect Steen in return, though. I would love to get Schwartz or Tarasenko, but those seem like reaches.

Nice job on the title reference.

MPS is all tools and no toolbox, IMO. Ultimately I think the expectations were just too high for him. Size, skating, but no hockey sense and a mediocre shot.

I think their scouting is sub par. Watch the Oil Change stuff from the 2010 draft. They had Pitlick rated very high. Thought about trading up to get him. He's hot garbage. If they're not picking 1st overall, they're whiffing left and right.

I think the Blues would be hard after a top-six center. We don't really have one to give.

Jaskin is the kind of player I'd love to add to this team, but I just don't think the teams are a fit trade wise.

Defense is really the weak point of the team. I said it a few weeks ago. McD, G, everyone else is struggling.

A few dominant plays and everyone is on McD's junk. He's been far from dominant this season. Isles game was horrid although it wasn't the norm. I don't think his focus level is where it needs to be at.

Everyone else is struggling in general. Is it also focus?

Is Ulf preparing our defense like it should be prepared? He was supposed to at least bring physicality... it's not apparent.

I can understand the hesitation to throw money at another free agent like Phaneuf, but Girardi a better player? come on..

Girardi is better than Phaneuf, one huge cheapshot a game makes it seem like he's a great player

Girardi used to be better. Phaneuf still has his physicality and crease clearing ability. Phaneuf also has a better point shot. Defensively, both are now around the same.

Does the thread title imply the Rangers are linked to Heatley and I missed it?

Or is that just our expectation for what we're looking at here...
