He has to be the next Martin St. Louis for you to consider not trading him?

Seriously, only on HFBoards.

i took the comment to mean he needs to be the next MSL to make him untouchable, not to keep him...the comment was about selling high, ie he is playing so well right now that he is worth more than he actually is.

I agree with this.

The Rangers have to decide how good of a player they see MZA as. Is he as good as he's playing right now? If not, is what you'd get back worth trading him? He's a valuable player on the team and just because he's small with a contract coming up, doesn't mean you should automatically trade him away. Teams win with small players all the time. But just because he's playing and producing like this right now, doesn't mean he's automatically this good.

He's not worth $1.15 mill? I don't know what you mean here.

I guess he's trying to imply this play for Zucc is unsustainable, which I sort of understand.

But there's no proof this will stop with him. He's creating chances with his vision + effort and determination.

So dz rumours won't go away. I still think dz and Pyatt for Barrie and McGinn in Colorado makes sense

I kind of like Gardiner, a lot more than many other Ds... But it's a darn shame that he is another lefty. I know he played RD with McD, but that was in college. Playing the off-side in the NHL is a handicap and it's not like Gardiner got all that much of a surplus that he can take from and still be a top 4 D. If we are dealing for a 5/6 D I would just not deal MDZ. Gardiner is also not a full fletched offensive minded D, so we get another guy who will take up a spot but not really help us much in any of the areas we are lacking...

The trade Zuccarello Stuff is just gut busting. Some folks really think this is a fantasy team on Yahoo.

On Zucc, my feeling is that if you can get a huge overpayment for him that's one thing. But for the last 16 games, he's been our best offensive player. Not just that, but he's been a very good offensive player for ANY team. In a group starved for offense, a player like that is more valuable to us than he would be to anyone else. You aren't going to get the kind of overpayment to make it worth your while.

would this trade work??

Canucks get Dan Girardi, and Brian Boyle

Rangers get Jannik Hansen, Brendan Gaunce and Christopher Tanev

Canucks get some guys that Torts knows well that would fit well in his system in Vancouver..

Rangers do this to get something for their UFA to be, a RH Dman in Tanev, some speed in Hansen which they really need to improve on, a solid center prospect with some size that can be 2ed-3rd line center in the future....

Pretty good value. I like it.

thanks.. Hansen is an underrated player. very solid 2 way forward that has speed and would most likely flourish here... Rangers need to improve the team speed because without Hagelin and Kreider this team is not a fast team at all, and what makes it worse is they are not a big team either..

Yeah this is exactly it. He's playing great right now, but we had 4 years to evaluate him. Obviously he fits this system better than Torts', but at the end of the day, any defenseman that isn't a pylon of a skater that's above 6'0" (and this criteria fits the majority of NHL defenders) can beat Zucc on one on one puck races and battles.

Not questioning his heart or drive. The biggest reason why he has such strong support among the fanbase is because he works hard, and I don't want to see the lone forward on the team this year like that get moved. But I think there are other issues at stake, especially considering how unmotivated and unprepared this roster starts every game. At the end of this year the team is going to have to evaluate just as they would any year.

Outside of MSL, every little guy that every one has mentioned has had up and down careers with maybe 50-60 games where they've peaked. I'm talking about the Gionta's and Deharnais of the world, ie not top 6 players on winning teams.

Gionta was a 4th liner. He isn't a comparable.

And this is where our opinion differs. A lot of us felt as though his first three years showed that he was a special talent, while Torts and many other posters disagreed. If you look at this forum during his first 60 games we were mesmerised by his skill and he had some bad puck bounce, but still produced at more than half a point per game.

There were several who predicted him to have a season like he is having now and a select few (who seems most vocal on trading zucc now) who laughed at those predictions.

Maybe he just is this good, and is still improving.
That is certainly what I believe.

Dreger was on TSN radio today. He said Phanuef will be signed soon. This time next week. 7 year term. I added the link in case I accused of making it up. From: @mirtle

Brooklyn Dodger executive Branch Rickey had a saying. "Its better to trade a player a a year too early rather than trade the player a year late". If the Rangers trade DZ for a lousy return, they traded DZ a year too late. The Rangers should have traded him before this season. That's not a second guess. Inconsistent. Up and down. Good first year. Lousy 2nd year. Very good 3rd year. So so 4th year. 5th year has been a disaster. Clean slate.

No way Torts does this...Torts hates Rangers now and loves Tanev.

I don't think these two teams make any major moves with each other. Van needs depth, and more Torts type of players, and one would think that it makes sense to trade between the two.

But given where the teams are, if the Rangers lose a trade in addition to being the worse team, the story it would create would stink for years. Just on that basis alone you stay away from a major trade.

You know Torts wouldn't mind sticking it to Slats.

That's brilliant. You ever heard of "hindsight is 20/20"? I'm glad you have this great foresight. Maybe we should trade McDonagh now that his value is high just in case he sucks next year.

wow, all this dumping on RangerBoy. You may not agree with everything he says, but as far as I'm concerned, he is my #1 source of Rangers related news, and I would hate to lose him because of some forum ridicule. Im sure he is thick skinned and is fine and can take it, but you never know...

Who cares? People disagree with ridiculous things no matter who posts it
