I'm not a fan of Dmen in the 1st round. I like forwards in round 1
Well that's your opinion then, not a scouting issue.

What would you pick in round 1?
Anybody that fits my teams needs best. But you also must consider who's available. For example in 2010, I did like Tarasenko and would've liked if we drafted him, but I wanted Burmistrov until he was taken by Atlanta. Because we needed a good center. I wasn't a huge fan of the McI pick at first, but I understood why we made it and agree with it.
In this draft I'd take the best center available. Because that's a pressing need.
But I wouldn't at all be opposed to taking an OFD or a big winger, cause those are also needs.
I pick the forward every day. Scoring is needed all the time. Dmen are nice but not when the problem hasnt been defense
For this draft, I agree.
OFD is still a need though, so if there's like a can't miss OFD pick I take it.
That's great and all, but it in no way addresses my point or puts any "myth to bed". First of all, nowhere did I say to acquire height and weight for the same of acquiring height and weight. Your analysis essentially assumes that Andrej Sustr has more of an impact than Dustin Brown.
It's not about pure height or weight. It is about having a team that can dictate terms to the opposition. That can win loose pucks. That can hold pucks by using their reach. That can win the playoff battle of attrition by actually hitting someone. That can take a hit to make a play. That will score a dirty goal. That is what this roster is sorely lacking. Again I really like MZA. But when he is the most consistent player for doing those things your roster is ****ed and especially ****ed in the playoffs.

I don't believe we should take defensive dmen in the first round because those kinds of players can be found in the later rounds and are cheaper to obtain in free agency. Offensive minded forwards are expensive and generally are past their prime by the time they become available.
Draft to fit your needs. Again.
I'm sure the Oilers would love an elite defensive d-man with their 1st this year. Cause they desperately need one.

They can trade one of their offensive forwards for one
I'd agree with you, but it's pretty well known that he and AV don't see eye-to-eye on things, and AV isn't happy with him. He also holds better value (better, not great) than our other Dmen.
He's going, whether or not we like the return.
Next to McD, he's been the best defenseman on the ice in transition and offense. I'm not a fan of moving DZ anymore. Not with Staal's struggles, and Girardi's probable departure. DZ's been very good in his natural side, and space is opening up there.
I see so many of the "get us a shiny new toy" people here are the same ones that have do heavily soured on DZ. No matter who's in the lineup, they want change. They never root for an imperfect team to become special, they want their own perfect vision of scream on Garden ice every night. I'm a fan of the current line up, in that I'd rather see them become something special than any players brought in to further mercenary the team. If mgmt brings in different players I root the same for them. It's just obnoxious always hating half the team you root for.
There's a chance Dion Phaneuf's extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs is done by New Year's. per Elliotte Freidman

I hope not, I still want to sign Phaneuf.

I was at the game last night. Barely noticed phaneuf. Want nothing to do with the contract that he'll get.
I never buy into these stupid rumors, can't stand them really, but I saw out on the main boards a mention of McQuaid out of Boston. I'd like to see him in a Ranger sweater.
He has a killer shot... Beyond that, he is nothing close to $7-8m a year
