I've wanted Downie since he left TB.

How we missed him twice without even a courtesy call is beyond me.

Marchand
Downie
Dubinsky

These types of skilled pests are not easy to come by.

add Steve Ott but he could be on the decline or in the right situation could thrive... that kid Roussell from the Stars seems to be his replacement... one guy i really wanted was Lapierre who signed with the Blues and was coached by AV in Vancouver and earlier in his junior career.

Very negative locker room stigma associated with Downie. Im glad we didn't get him.

I think that locker room stuff is BS sometimes. When Philly traded Carter and Richards, they were supposed to be locker room cancers according to Philly fans and look how that turned out. I think it all depends on the players and if they can try to keep a teammates head in the game.

carter was horrible in cbus

I mean there were rumors out of Colorado that said that Downie slept with Varlamov's girlfriend leading to the whole debacle that happened this year.

Zucc is a keeper. The talent and commitment were always there, he just needed some time to adjust. Before this season he only had 67 games of NHL experience, not counting playoffs. He may be the most talented forwarded on the team. Not that u want to mess with a good thing, but he has the vision, speed, hands and passing ability to be a nice top 6 center. Hes basically assumed the role of puck carrier and distributor already.

Cbus is horrible.

Its not just them, In football Vernon Davis was considered uncoachable, and then he almost wins a superbowl last year. Kessel was another problem and he goes to Toronto and makes them better.

I just think certain players need to be coached certain ways in order to be successful.

His play as of late has made a good case for him to be worth re-signing, but let's not forget how badly he started the season. Also, it's important to remember that he's never scored at this kind of pace before. He's playing very well, but there are way too many people jumping on the "I told you so" bandwagon. Frankly, it's way too early to draw any conclusions either way.

We also have to factor in who he was playing with. Pouliot wasn't contributing and he had Pyatt on his wing quite a bit. My issue with him is less the offensive inconsistency and more the bad turnovers. Give him consistent minutes with good wingers and I think he'll be a lot closer to what we saw from him last year. If he does that, then we can live with his defensive mistakes.

If Richards is going to be bought out (I'm no longer sure it will happen), then keeping Brassard becomes more important, unless we can make a deal somewhere to get another top 6 center.

Overstated.

the fact is, most peckerheads have issues, it's what makes them peckerheads.

Downie is no different.

Take him in a heartbeat

this team is bland, has no charachter or heart.

Guys like this FORCE their own teams to get their compete level up by being the **** disturbers that they are.

not only do we need a Downie type, but I would go further and say we need 2-3 of them.

two at forward and one on defence.

Where there is smoke there is fire?

Rumors surface, Downie is moved with a lightning quickness for an underpayment at best, and then Varlamov is suddenly facing criminal charges (now dropped) based on an altercation with his partner.

Surely all a coincidence?

If that was even remotely true, is that the kind of "teammate" you want around your locker room further disrupting chemistry, bonding and identity?

It's not really the point or worth arguing over since he was moved and is no longer available anyway.

Disturbing? Discussing the value of the player is "disturbing"? Why is he different than any other player?

He's one of the few bright spots on the team this year. We're not talking about Poo who shows up every 14 games. I get what you're saying. I just disagree. Rev sums it up pretty nicely.

You weren't discussing value, you were advocating trading him because of what he theoretically might want on his next contract. All this just because of who his agent is, without taking into account past contract negotiations.

You just have to pray Hank is one of these ageless netminders that can do it well into their late 30's. We've already banked on it. I am a little worried he hasn't looked any better since singing the deal, I thought that would relieve some pressure, but hes actually looked worse

If Zucc gets that consideration, shouldn't Brassard, who also had the misfortune of being tied to Pouliot, and who's has been much better since being freed from him.

Who consequently was also "freed" from Pouliot only to be chained to the former in Zucc, the team's best forward currently. Although I am sure that is only a coincidence. ;)

if I have a "teammate/co-worker" and he's nailing another "teammate/co-workers" GF or Wife, that's on them and none of my business.

I would have no issues having that guy as a teammate

The "official" version is not pretty and it says that Downie and Landeskog had a fallout. And by the sound of it, it's not quite convincing.

That said, I don't know Downie, but a character like him could help the team. Like Avery helped to lit up a really flat Renney team.

I think that Hanks fallout actually could help our team in this sense. For a long time he has been the savior and he has been untouchable. I saw Brassards comment on Talbot that was a big peak towards Hank. That's good, nobody should be untouchable. Let them clear the air and find a new normal to move forward in.

I'm not sold on Ott being on the decline. I think he's toned it down a notch given the leadership position he's been granted by Buffalo manegment. He still cranks it up here and there this year but seems to be trying to carry the team more in a mentoring type of way. Which kind of proves my point about player like him who are more calculating than hot headed like the Dorsett/Hollweg types.

Roussell is a very intriguing character. I've got my eyes on him for the near future for sure.

There is a big difference between co-workers and teammates, the dynamic is nothing alike.

This is sounding like a poor justification for selfishly seeing a player you like on your favorite team without considering the actual ramifications of such a move.

Agree totally that a player like Downie could help this team a lot.

this goes for just about every player on our team...

Zucc will deserve a contract, but it's too early to say how much

Brass might deserve a contract, but he'll basically have to live up to his $4M QO...

Girardi might deserve a contract, but that's basically going to be up to AV deciding whether or not he wants him on this team... Something I'm starting to think less and less of. With MDZ getting better with each passing game that Staal is not playing, it almost looks like Girardi might be getting singled out. I'm not sure how I feel about that unless I know for sure that MacIlrath is ready to go, and I don't see that until middle of next season to be honest.

Girardi for Yakupov sounds SO good... we have no finishers which Yak happens to be, and there is one reason alone why this guy WON'T be like Loser Rick Nash...

Yak has been in the league for only ~2 years and subjected to a losing culture.
Nash has been in the league for 12-14 years, and subjected to a losing culture (the ENTIRE time)

Getting Yak from now up until the deadline is CRUCIAL in my opinion. We have the parts to trade for it, it's worth a shot since we're not getting a top 10 draft pick anyway. We have a guy going to Free Agency that we don't know if he will be extended. We can't get a first round draft pick through the draft, trade for it RIGHT NOW. It's the logical way around it

sorry, but in today's NHL, teammates are co workers and co workers are teammates.

it's become more than a sport.

At it's base level, it's a game. But these guys move so much that it's almost as much a business/job as it is a sport.

and no, I do not care about the ramifications of such a move.

What i would do is ask who has a problem with the move and those that raised their hands, I would tell them all to suck it up. Put on your big boy pants and win some games.

The guy coming in (Downie specifically) is willing to bleed for all of you, the LEAST YOU can do is allow him that.

I was referring to Brassard.

As has been stated previously, (by myself, among others), from the day Brassard was acquired, he and Zucc have had chemistry, which is why I like the two of them on the same line.

I worry about paying players big $$ that show gross inconsistency. Brassard fits that mold. Del Zotto fits that mold.

Of the three Brassard, Del Zotto and Zuccarello I'd keep Zuccarello and move the other two. I don't think either Brass or DZ worth what they're making now. Wouldn't want to even give them the qualifying 10% pay raise.
