Bowman should be on the phone with Lamoriello right now for Sorokin. Their excuse for not getting a goalie was that a "clear upgrade wasn't available." You don't get more of a clear upgrade than a consistent Top Ten goalie in the league and former Vezina nominee.

The Islanders gave us Salo, maybe they can give us Sorokin too...
Sorokin would be a homerun pickup

Hard to see it happening though, he has a huge contract, it would cost an absolute ton even factoring in that. He also has a full NMC, lot of russians, especially after sampling the NYC life, aren't keen to move out to the boonies of mid-west canada.

Damn you and your logic! Let a man dream!

Guess I'll have to go back to hoping for one of Soderblom, Quick, Lyon, Talbot, Forsberg, Merilainen, etc...

EDIT: Forgot my last hope for a solution in net: Jake FN Allen

So very dumb. Walman is not the piece to move a 1st for. Still need a G, RHD, and top six W. Two trades containing three picks and three prospects later, still none of those.

I'm not super happy with the cost either but sadly their isn't a ton available on the market.

Imo Walman will be a great fit with Emberson while Kulak can play with Nurse.

If Stankoven is the main piece going back, I think that's a terrible decision by Carolina. Like if I was a Hurricanes fan, I'd be so pissed about how this whole thing has played out. Just stick with Rantanen as a rental if that's the return you're getting.

Also, I'm not sure about it from a Dallas perspective ether. You're trading for a rental that just struggled so much as a rental that the team that acquired him decided to move on from him 15 games later. I think there have to be questions about how he's going to fit in with their team.

I'm not scared of anyone right now, Oilers obviously have to get it going, but I like the Walman trade, I like adding Frederic, and if you can wheel and deal a little bit tomorrow, move out Skinner and bring in a legit top six forward, I'm really liking how we look.

It doesn’t change the calculus in Dallas really either. Still weak on defense.

I dream about it too

Would be the best goaltender acquisition since Sather fleeced Mike Keenan and the Blues for Curtis Joseph and Mike Grier.

With honorable mentions to when we robbed the Isle and Minny of Salo and Roli, respectively.

I'd was also going to add Talbot, but that was a gift from Sather.

Too bad we couldn't have a younger clone of Sather to solve our eternal GM crisis...

I remember people were saying Emberson could be a second-pair RHD based on how well he played in 30 games as a Shark last year, then those expectations were drastically lowered right away. So I'll reserve my judgment on Walman until we see how he vibes with the team.

I was excited at first because it was some kind of big move, but after reading more about the guy I feel like it has the potential to go right as much as it can go wrong, and that first was almost all we had without sacrificing from our extremely shallow prospect pool. I would've felt more confident with Oleksiak or Connor Murphy here, but NHL_Sid seems to like the move.

I'd like to wake up and see that we got Jake Allen or Arvid Soderblom or Anton Forsberg, among many others, and that we somehow convinced other teams to take Arvidsson, Klingberg, Kapanen, and any of our bottom-nine passenger princesses, and somehow landed Rantonen to boot.

Alas, I think it will be another Sam Carrick: a consistent healthy scratch who people will get way too excited about, like Michael McCarron (who scored tonight...fourth of the year).

Western teams loading up. Meanwhile, this year's TDL is shaping up to be a giant wet fart for the Oilers.

I'll reserve final judgement until the deadline is passed today, but it doesn't look overly promising atm.
Frederic and Walman are good adds.

Would still like a goalie but this TDL has been fine.

Turns out a younger clone of Lowe would have worked too. If Bowman was around back in 2006, he would have stuck with Markkanen/Conklin and traded our 1st for Richard Jackman.

Yup, as much as Lowe did to destroy the team and plunge us into that decade of darkness (btw, f*** him for trading Smytty), we don't make the playoffs, much less the finals without Roli.

Here's hoping Jake Allen or a goalie close to him in talent is an Oiler tomorrow.

Frederic and Walman are good adds.

An injured forward with less points than multiple players Vegas and Florida have picked up for free the last few months, and a left handed D who we could have been paid a 2nd to take back in the fall.

No, this is stupidity by the worst front office in the league. Our chance at a Cup becomes nil if there isn’t at minimum a new goalie and a better winger than Arvidsson or Skinner brought in by tomorrow afternoon.

Hell I would argue that’s the end of our competitive window entirely because I can’t see Connor willingly signing up for 8 more years of the same. He’d be a moron to do so.

This is it, people. Bowman and Jackson either make several miraculous moves in the next 12 hours or the last decade will have been a waste. No pressure.

Out of curiosity with anyone who’s knowledgeable about it. What about the Kane situation? Let’s say he’s not good to go before playoffs, do they just LTIR them and have more cap space to use or was that cap space already used on Walman

Cause if we still have extra $$$$, I’d really want a goalie added especially after what Colorado and Dallas acquired today.

Jeff Skinner deserves better and if we have no plans to use him, move him to a team that will.

Skinner for Hall, send them both back home

I feel like Hall is basically in the passenger tier at this point in his career.

I'd love to see Knob grow a brain and give Skinner a chance on the first PP unit. I think I saw tonight that Nuge had one goal in his last 12. How how much power play time has that guy wasted? I mean Skinner once scored on the second unit... That never happens.

Time to give Skinner and/or Perry a crack at the first unit. It would really send a message and reward goal scoring instead of punishing it with healthy scratches...

It’s just facts. We needed to be a better team than last year, and it is without a doubt worse with no real solutions on the horizon. We have almost no draft capital left, three forward prospects with any sort of top nine upside, one D prospect worth a damn, and an aging roster with aging stars that are already on the decline. This group needs to win now or it never will.

Yes, it is really that dire.
