If he's able to stay healthy, his game looks similar to what Adam Larsson gave us in his time here. Strict defensive defenseman. And those are always what teams are looking for at the deadline.

Laughton, I think is a good gamble to perform better in a winning environment. Wouldn't surprise me if he slots in in the wing in the top six at times, too. He's a versatile vet that's costing them very little on the cap next season.

I can only hope that we're able to get Frederic re-signed or else is back to the drawing board next year in the bottom six.
 
Too bad McDavid couldn't lure Marchand to Edmonton.

Walman on the 3rd gives us a very strong Top 4 minutes redundancy and sets him up for softer matchups. For the first time maybe ever I feel like we have 3 solid pairs with the caveat that our top pair has been so brutal relative to their standards this year that it makes any prospective acquisition moot if they don't get it together.

So we basically have up a 1st to upgrade our 3rd pairing with a 3m+ player then. Got it!

Frederic signing with St. Louis after 14 games here would be the most Oiler thing to happen since well ... St. Louis' offer sheets.

Oilers aren't even playing today so this was THE topic of discussion.

Carlo vs Walman would be a good thing to follow for the next couple years.
Both cost about the same so it's safe to assume we could've had Carlo for the same cost.
Defensive RD with size was the need and Carlo would've filled it.
Bowman and co went with an offensive LHD instead to fill the same role.

Let's see how both fare this season and next.

No issues with the Frederic+Jones trade.

Better 4D and better 6D. Broberg wasn't actually all that good in the playoffs. Got caved on most metrics and only played bottom pairing minutes. Was a breath of fresh air over Ceci and Vinny though.

Carlo has played bottom pairing 5v5 minutes for 3 years now, struggled in that role providing only slightly above average defence, and absolute bottom percentile offence. I just don't get the appeal with this player.

Bowman shoul be axed for 'believing' in this goaltending duo if the Oilers fizzle out in round 1.
Could've atleast added a backup goalie. No one was going to claim Pickard after his last performance
