Pageau is a goner. We have a lot of centers and even though it kills me to let Pageau go, I think the return should be very interesting and bottom line is we should have plenty of options at C going forward.

Other than Pageau, natural centers on this team:

White
Anisimov
Tierney
Paul
Namestnikov
Brown
Chlapik
Beaudin

Then you have Norris who likely gets some games at one point or Swarz.

Would assume by year end Brown, White hold 2 spots.

Then one spot for Anisimov who we likely won't be able to trade. Then other could be Chlapik if Tierney is traded as well.

I just bolded all the centres you mentioned better than Pageau.

Oh right, none. Lol. Terrible argument. Just cause we have a lot of C's doesn't make Pageau expendable.

White and Brown definitely can/should be better but until then you keep Pageau, especially since we aint hitting the cap ceiling.

He actually asked to be moved.
Because the writing was on the wall. Most people here didn't see it but a few of us did. The team wanted to move on so he left early. There was no way Melnyk was going to resign him for 7 mill over 4.

I watched a few games last year with Spezza, not impressed. Standing still on a PP he can do something, but we don’t need him for that, we have Brown and Tierney to help with that - and his hand skills might still be decent but his leg skills are very bad. He can’t keep up
It's hard from going from the #1 option to #4-5. Dallas was not a good fit and when they hired Hitchcock it was over for him. His numbers tanked and so did Dallas under him. Spezza would probably only be behind Chabot in points on this team.

Spezza can’t skate. He can’t get into plays 5 on 5. I love Spezza, but he doesn’t have the legs anymore

A 1st and a prospect for Pageau? As painful as it is to lose him I think you have to pull the trigger there.

That 1st packaged with other picks could move the Sens up in the draft.

Ideally if Tierney could net just a first rounder you'd trade him and keep Pageau

No problem with bringing Spezza back, I would make a few moves to make it work, but it is a good idea, especially at that price.

Start by trading Tierney for a RW like Josh Anderson in CBJ or Mathieu Joseph in Tampa or future assets (pick(s) and/or prospect(s)). Waive Boedker and send him down to the AHL if he is not claimed. Once healthy, you have:

Tkachuk-L.Brown-Anderson
Paul-Pageau-Duclair
Balcers-Namestnikov-White
Chlapik-Spezza-C. Brown
LOl, Spezza's not playing on our4th line.

I agree . Have to see what we can get for Tierney . If we can only get a 2nd for Tierney and we can get a 1st + for Pageau I think we have to do that and circle back on him as a UFA

Ideally the Sens leverage some cap space and let CT, DD, or Pager fit into a teams cap without negatively impacting there remaining cap space. The Oilers have $30 000 of cap space but we could potentially strengthen them with DD, CT, and even DUC.

What no Colin White reference?

No you are wrong on this one.
The story from Spezza's perspective was that Spezza went to Murray and said if the team was going to go for and add players with the goal of being a contender, he wanted to be a part of that. But if the team was going to rebuild, he was open to a trade.

Get assets for Pageau.
And then sign him in July.

Unless he is hellbent on remaining a senator for life, it makes so much sense to talk to him about a potential trade to a contender. Everyone wins.

I guess the risk is there for him, but lots of guys go into the playoffs with no contract (even high-profile players as EK65). He could play some playoff hockey (historically been pretty good), can win a cup, increase his value and have the option of where to play the nexy year. If he comes back, it was a huge help for the rebuild. It could essentially be a free 1st round pick. Plus it frees up some space for someone to play up from Belleville for the rest of the year.

Tierney is an RFA , so we can keep him until we know for sure JGP is coming back, and then deal him.

Absolutely you trade Pageau, this is a team with a monster glut of bottom 6 players and especially centers...love the player bigtime however we aren't competing anytime even close to soon and if anyone wants to give you anything of value you do it, same goes for any and all players above 25-26ish. We have young projected depth for days, we need elite top 6, top 3 talent so very badly imo.

I think we can put the Spezza rumours to bed:

Yeah he seemed to kill the idea last night on the intermission.

Outside of the nostalgia I see no reason for Spezza anyways especially after watching last night's game . It's clear he wants a team with pace, hard on the forecheck and laying the body.

Nothing Spezza does. He's not a fit, just like Ryan and Boedker aren't a fit

Trading Pageau would be unwise. No guarantee a late first rounder works out at all and you are giving away a player who
a) fans love and hence he helps sells tickets b) plays with more heart than most of our future "top six" prospects c) is the perfect 3c that you need on any team d) local boy that likely will extend with the Sens for the right contract e) is still young enough to blend with this rebuild

How many more quality veterans are we going to ship out? You can't just have a team of prospects led by AHL level veterans. You need to keep those that actually have talent on the roster to guide the kids. Bad move if we trade him.
