Trade Rumors 2013 Part II

If the Kings wanted to deal Stoll they would not have dealt Loktionov because he would have fit in perfect on the 3rd line center.

Or they move Carter back to center, slide Richards down to the 3rd line center and promote a winger from Manch or add one in the return deal.

I'm surprised to hear you say that Loktionov would be perfect for the bottom 6 given his size and stature.

I just mean that he was good defensively and was supposed to be the Kings #2 or #3 center before the Richards trade and Stoll re-signing.

I was never convinced he was good defensively by his play. He was just sort of THERE.
His shoulders have also taken a mighty beating.

I just looked up his numbers. I had no idea he suited up for us 39 games last year, I thought it was far less than that!

Linden Vey, was the reason Loki was moved.

Vey pretty much pushed Loki out.

Vey is exactly what the Kings hoped Loki would be.

God I would do terrible things to have Hagelin on the Kings as their 3rd line LWer. First off, he went to Michigan. But besides that, he's fast as **** and plays a smart game and isn't afraid of getting hit.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Vey is having a phenomenal season but hasn't played a single game in the NHL yet.

Teemu will be gone soon, and Saku is 38, their very good forwards are getting old, Ryan most likely is gonna leave also. They wont have the same roster soon, unless Perry takes like a 2 year contract which I think he wont.

The Ducks have a bright future with tons of good prospects. Flames don't have that.

He was pretty much invisible last season.

My feeling right now is that we have nothing of significant value that we can trade right now. Don't have a first so we want to keep our 2nd and 3rd this year, we need Bernier in net, we have no D to trade, we have no wings to trade and none of our Cs are for trade.

I think the only kind of deal we can do right now is a positional upgrade rental deal and I'm not really in to that.

Alright, just throwing it out there. I am pretty sure Lombardi offered a similar contract for 4 years back when Gaborik was a UFA. He was afraid of the injuries so we all know he covets Marian.

He did then, but he had the cap room to play with 3+ seasons ago. Next year we will be very tight to the cap, plus he's given a lot of that money he had to guys like Drew, Richie, Carter and Quick. Those guys either weren't here then, or getting a fraction of what they are now. Also, Gaborik would have fit in better under Murray than Sutter.

Agreed. Back when the Kings were pursuing Gaborik as a UFA we still under Murray's defensive system which Gaborik could adapt to consider his time under Lemaire, but now I don't think Gaborik would be completely the right fit for the Kings. Williams puck possession of passing is a better fit, even if he is much less talented.

And I say this as a huge Gaborik fan.

That being said, if the Kings could get him as a UFA after 13-14 as a UFA, I certainly would not be opposed to taking another run at him. Brown - Kopitar - Gaborik could be hugely deadly with that speed.

I don't get how Gaborik is less able to adapt to our system now because he's been out of Lemaire's system for 3+ years, but he'll maybe fit in if we wait another 1 1/2 years until he's UFA.

Players have to learn to adapt to a number of systems and coaches in their careers, Gabby is no different than anyone else, he'd adapt. He did for Lemaire, he did for Tortorella. I think the biggest issue for him isn't the system, it'd be Sutter's demand he not take any shifts off, which he has shown an ability to do from time to time. That doesn't fly well with Darryl, just ask Penner.

somebody here i forgot who proposed this on the main board thought it was pretty good.

williams, stoll

gaborik, boyle

No way on Gaborik to LA. No consistency. Perry in LA is a pipe dream. I think he'll land East Coast or Vancouver (not sure why) but just a vibe.

Vey has the skill set and brain/body to play NHL hockey for the Kings.

Loki was a non factor in the NHL games he did play for the Kings.

<---Big Loki Homer. The Kid is not the type of player Lombardi and Sutter are looking for, Vey is .

Vey can also play Wing,

Loki is perfect in the East, He fits that type of Hockey just fine.

On NHL Insider March 8. Darren Dreger said that we are interested in Perry. Actually he mentioned LA first... I would rather have Iginla as a rental than Perry.

I don't know how Gaborik wouldn't fit into Sutter's system. You put him on a line with Brown and Kopitar, and they're going to most of the heavy lifting on the forecheck, especially Brown. You give Kopi a goal scorer like that on his wing, it'd be freakin awesome to watch. And then I'd love a line of Williams, Richards, Carter.

For a 40 goal scorer, Gabby is not a selfish player who only cares about his stats. He's a team guy. He's done everything Tortorella has asked of him. He's tried to play better defense, he's even tried to be more physical. You can't build a team of all gritty grinders who play great defensively. You need some skill guys who can beat people one on one and put the puck in the back of the net. That's what Gaborik is and that's what this team sorely needs, especially with a left handed shot.

Some of the same things were said about Jeff Carter when he was coming over from Columbus. Go back and read through some of the trade thread. A skinny 6'3 guy with speed that plays a more finesse game and doesn't really throw his body around or chase the puck relentlessly in the corners. Not a "fit" for the system. A guy who will be another Dustin Penner (disappointment). Well, how has that worked out? Pretty damn well.

Gaborik, like Carter in Philly, has become a whipping boy in NY when things don't go well. He's soft, he sucks in the playoffs (despite playing through a torn labrum), he doesn't play a strong two way game, he's not physical enough, he's not a dirt dog like Captain Cally, etc. Tortorella always gets on him and benches him, but Gabby never throws a ***** fit like Ovie did with Boudreau. Torts is a moron, he wants a every guy, including guys with Gaborik's skill set to play like Ryan Callahan.

I'd love to add Gaborik to this team, unfortunately, I don't think we are really great trading partners with the Rangers.

Obviously would LOVE Perry on this team and Dreger did say LA would be interested on NHL Insider on TSN, but I can't see the Ducks trading him within the division unless the Kings blow every other offer out of the water, which they won't.

In order for the Kings to fit Perry in their salary structure, they would have to amnesty buyout Stoll and probably have to move Justin Williams without retaining any salary, and that's a move I'd make without batting an eye. The Ducks will never trade him here though.

Should be noted that Perry has played with and is said to be friends with a contingent of Kings players, namely Richards, Carter, Doughty, and Penner.

Still can't believe who the Kings drafted before Perry in 2003... stupid Al Murray drafts...

I don't think duck would trade us perry but i can see us interested in signing him in the off season. Perry on kopitar wing would be amazing to see. He would for sure be a upgrade on williams. The point id like to bring up He wouldnt have to move cross country which is a bigger deal then most realize. If perry was smart he would realize being in la would do alot for his carrer We contenders for the forseeable future with our young core. He would also help in ticket sales not that we really need it now but perry would be a draw in la. Only thing is he would have to turn down money to come here i can see him getting 6.5 - 7.1. I can also see us trying for iginla as a rental and if he does well resigning him if not try for perry as a plan b sorta thing.

No way the Kings get Perry in a trade. He would be great for the Kings as a UFA though, but I don't see that happening either.

I believe Perry is a pipe dream this year as he would kill our prospect base and part of our current team as a rental. We can afford his contract this year but I do not believe we can next year. I will look into our salary structure later today.

As for Gaborik I made the post the other day stating I woul trade Stoll, Williams and Drewiske for Boyle and Gaborik. These are 3 players the Rangers need for depth, Stoll would play better in their system, and Willy would replace a lot of the lost scoring punch. Having Gabby's speed pushing defense back on Kopitars line would be nasty. Think of two Carters on this team. Speed and good hands kill. Boyle takes up Stolls spot. The top 2 lines will get 40 minutes a game leaving Boyle and Fraser to mop up 10ish minutes each. They can be effective in those little minutes. Penns and Lewis have filled in rather well lately on the Philly line. With Stoll and Williams salary off the books we fan afford the extra 2.3 mil this year from Gabby and Boyle and next year Boyle can be shipped off and reaced internally at the cheap. We shed Stolls contract, upgrade Williams for the rest of this year an next with a true sniper who can play defense, keep Bernier and our prospect pool.

Iginla is very interesting if Calgary wants a rebuild. We have the young goalie, Williams and prospect it would take. However is he a huge upgrade over what Williams provides at the cost it would take? I love him and his style fits but it's costly as a rental.

Grabner is my final submission. 3 mil a year for 3 years is nice. He has speed and hands and fits on Kopitars line. He is young with growth still expected. He would cost but NYI needs a little of everything and he may be a sleeper

Perry is nearly impossible via trade. Free Agency would be extremely difficult with our financial situation. We technically could fit him in, but the work arounds are cumbersome and we would lose a few players in the process. Depends on if Dean is willing to jump through the hoops to force him in the lineup. It would also hurt our defense as it will limit the amount of money we can spend there. What we have is what we get essentially.

Iginla is phenomenal, though I don't know if I would be comfortable giving up serious assets to get him. It is a move the Kings are in position to make though, and it is what contender's do... I just don't know if I would give up Williams++ for a year and a half of Iginla.

If you had to choose between Iginla and Perry though, the answer is hands down Perry. If it was just as a rental for this year, I might choose Iginla, but overall Perry is the superior asset and would give us one of the most dominant top 6's in the league. The problem is just money.

With the Ducks ridiculous NMC $8plus million 8yr contract to Getzlaf to me it looks pretty much like Perry is certainly going to go somewhere else.

I still see us being in the running for him up to a point. We will have to move some things around and I am not certain I would be for us doing that but I could still us wanting to or trying to figure out a way to bring him to the Kings.

I think that the Rags will move Gabby and more to try and pick up Perry when the Ducks start tanking before the end of the season. Of course, that would have to happen first but I do hate the Ducks so I can dream.
