DL has been really busy lately. Really busy.

I like the direction that we are headed and DL is one of the top GM's in the game today. Happy to have a smart hard working GM like DL behind the wheel.

I like to picture TG in a white 'scouting' van, in front of 16 tvs...one watching HFboards, one watching DL, the rest watching prospects ;)

But I agree--one advantage he has over past GMs is having a vision and actually executing it (with no meddling from ownership depending on how you look at past regimes)

This is off topic but I always thought all GMs were hard workers and consistently fishing around but Buddy Nix completely changed my mind, wow. I don't know if you guys heard this but one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard:

The Kings aren't trading Voynov. If Hickey was still in the organization I could see letting one of Muzzin, Hickey, or Martinez go for an upgrade that is a stay-at-home defenseman.

Even though we are hearing in the media that Dean wants to make a big splash at the deadline, I doubt that he can make it happen unless it involves Bernier being shipped out. Again, I doubt that will happen.

If the Kings give up a 3rd round pick or something akin to that to add some depth, I wouldn't call that a "big" splash.

I still think we should focus on a Bernier for Smid deal. I know the Oilers need D but the guy's contract is up. If they give us let's say:

Bernier + Muzzin for Smid + 1st RD pick

The spending a stupid amount of time watching prospects play hockey part is right. I haven't been home since December and am either driving to or sitting in a rink watching people who aspire to make it to the NHL play hockey everyday of the season and half of the rest of the time.

You meet people and hear things and after over 20 years of doing it you learn a little bit about what sounds right and what doesn't. Its like anything else, the more time you spend at and around something the more you learn.

Its really tiring.

That one would make me pause if I was Dean.

Smid would make a perfect rental for us. We could even resign him if it looks like Mitchell might be done for good. With Muzzin stepping up and contributing offensively and improving on D, Martinez looks to be expendable. It seems Martinez is in Sutters doghouse anyways.

Not sure what we would have to give up for Smid. Parts that could go to Edmonton could be one or two of Penner/Richardson/Martinez.

Smid-Doughty
Scuderi-Voynov
Ellerby-Muzzin
Drewiske

Then look at getting someone like Iginla.

Wondering if Scuderi's poor play stems back to the Dubinski hit. We take for granted that Scud can take a hit and come right back, but if I'm remembering right, he banged up his shoulder on the hit. Wouldn't surprise me if he was one of the banged up guys talked about.

For the BUF rumors, if Regher can play at all anymore, he's the target. He's a DL type DMan x10..not to mention our injuries and all.

Probably looking at Leopold, Regehr, Stafford, and Sekera (depending on availability). I would think we would be looking for Stafford + Regehr ideally. Buffalo will probably be looking at Bernier because they are looking to get rid of Miller, but I don't think Dean will part with him just yet, though the two teams seem like really good trading partners. I would be O.K. with any of those four players, so we will just have to wait and see.

I would think that prospects, later picks, and maybe some bottom 6, and definitely spare players would all be on the table.

Penner + King/Lewis + Pick/certain prospects + Richardson/Drewiske (maybe even Bernier depending on how the pot is sweetened) for Stafford + Regehr/Leopold. Give or take an asset or two, something around that.

Penner + Bernier + (Some moderately valuable asset) for Stafford + Regehr might be close, give or take one asset to either side.

The Buffalo board seems to be leaning toward something like Bernier + Stoll for Regehr + Stafford. Would create a hole and is a little rich for us.

Nothing about that conversation between Nix and Dominik is abnormal, and I have no idea why it would surprise anyone.

Ironically, I'm a Buffalo Bills fan.

You don't think there's a coincidence between that convo and how Fitzpatrick got cut the next day? Have fun with Ryan Nassib as your opening day starter and reaching for him at 8th overall!

Agreed, sounds like normal negotiating discussion.

Trading for Stafford would be like trading for another Penner. I seriously doubt DL wants the guy.

There are similarities, but Stafford is a better asset. It all depends on Bernier. Dean will be fighting not to include him and Buffalo will be fighting to include him. If we include him, we need more coming back than just Regehr, and Stafford is one of the few that would make sense to ask for.

If the Kings trade Bernier, they need to get another goalie somewhere.

It will be interesting to see which is the first guy Lombardi trades from the Cup winning team. Westgarth didn't play at all. Loktionov got into a few games early. Gagne wasn't really part of the team from late December through Game 3 of the finals. Those were spare parts.

It'll also be something to watch and see where Lombardi is. Is it try and win now while the window is open, and deal with the consequences later? Or is it replenish the system a little bit, while still having a chance to win? Is he all in because this group has earned that, or is he thinking there are just too many injuries for this to be our year and live to fight another day?
