Sentimentality aside, Voynov is probably a #3 Dman long term. (ducks from angry mob) And we all know Bernier has to be traded.

Then let Penner walk and find an adequate DMan in free agency. Or if Forbert is ready, even better. Not sure if this deal makes us better immediately, but Hall is a foundation piece. Muzzin's progression eases the loss.

This is my thoughts. I'm a huge Hall fan. he's one of the few forward on Edmonton that actually gives attention to defense which says a lot of his character and all around game too. Tough to o something like that when you are not held accountable and the rest of your team could give a sh.

I did the numbers over there and see it can be done as well. I just don't like where that leaves us. If Mitchell and Greene were playing maybe. But until they are back and we see they are healthy loosing a proven D man is not good. Also I hate the thought of dumping Scuds and this would mean we would have to.

You still can. Just trade away King+ and you have cap space to maneuver for another third liner:

I like King. :p:

Actually, if we were to just tweak the lineup and insert Toffoli at 3RW, that will immediately improve our 3rd line.

From Inside Hockey's rumors:

•The Sabres are shopping Stafford. Red Wings, Canucks and Kings have all inquired. I am being told LA is ready to make a splash again at this year’s trade deadline day. They do have the authority from the owner to spend to the cap, and I’m being told they target a top 6 forward as well as a solid d-man. Talks ongoing with Sabres for Regehr and Oilers for Smid.

The Kings already traded their extra defenseman for a scoring winger. Johnson for Carter led to the Stanley Cup because the Kings had Voynov in Manchester.

Trading Voynov for Hall will not improve Quick's save precentage and the Kings will start to give up 3+ goals per game. Hall isn't going to turn the Kings into a powerhouse offensively, especially when the Kings will struggle to get the puck out of their zone. The Kings possession "stats" will fall without Voynov and Muzzin is no where near his ability to skate the puck out of harms way.

Now that Doughty has been taken off the #1 PP unit, Voynov has turned the Kings PP into an elite unit.

The Kings are close to a top 10 offense with Voynov and without Hall. At least wait to see what Toffoli can bring in the NHL. If he can give 10-15 goals next season, that will easily replace the production from Penner. He's not as strong on the boards as Penner, but if he buries more chances that are created, then it won't matter.

I doubt the Oilers would even consider this trade. They would probably want to send a different forward out of their top 6 than Hall for defense and goaltending.

As posted above:
DEFENSEMEN
Willie Mitchell ($3.500m) / Drew Doughty ($7.000m)
Matt Greene ($2.950m) / Alec Martinez ($0.900m)
Jake Muzzin ($0.750m) / Keaton Ellerby ($0.800m)

That is a terrifying NHL defense. Greene and Martinez are not top 4 defensemen and would get exposed. Maybe move Muzzin with Doughty and Mitchell with Martinez. Ellerby and Greene as the bottom pair wouldn't be as terrible.

Muzzin/Doughty
Mitchell/Voynov
Greene/Martinez

That is a defense that can still challenge for the Cup.

But neither Mitchell or Greene are ready yet. Greene might be by the playoffs, but he'll not have played hockey since last June. And how long will it take for him to get his game back/timing, etc. Chris Pronger had that same surgery and the doctors laid out a very strick timetable of progressivly working back to game shape. His surgery was in June and he didn't being skating with the team and doing contact until Sept.
I am hoping Green can be back playing by the end of the reg .season, so at least he has some gtime to get back his speed, timing, be in game shape B4 the playoffs.

And Mitchell, it doesn't sound like he's coming back.
WHich is why DL is looking for a top 4 veteran D man. I think he knows alot more than is being said about Mitchell. That quote Mitchell gave about 10 days ago where he said he 'doesn't feel quite right' was a bit telling.

You guys seriously think Edmonton would give up Taylor Hall now? Seriously? Let's get our heads back to ground level and think reasonably and realistically. That's not happening.

Hemsky will be the most likely player the Oilers move at the deadline. Another name to look out for is Ryane Clowe, though I'm not sure the Sharks deal him within the division, but it's possible (Ducks dealt Selanne to SJ after all).

Eager is on waivers. I think the kings should pick him up and send Toffi back down so that he is playing.

No, that shouldn't happen and won't happen. Eager is a waste of a roster spot in today's NHL. Think about it. He's being waived by Edmonton. One of the worst teams in the league. If they don't need him, why do the Kings? What exactly does Eager bring that the Kings need?

He can provide his fists so that Clifford doesn't have to.
Come to think of it though we have An. Stewart who I would ratehr have as our press boxer than Eager.

Likely nothing, but passing along this note on scouts in attendance .. make of it what you will.
Well, here's an indisputable truth for you: the Sabres and Kings have been checking each other out a lot lately.

The Sabres have had a scouting presence at Staples Center for most Kings games over the past couple of weeks, more so than in other Western Conference buildings (just two examples, but they haven't been in Detroit or Columbus recently).

L.A., along with Vancouver, Chicago, Dallas, Edmonton, Colorado, and five Eastern Conference teams, had scouts at FNC last night for Buffalo's 3-1 win over the Rangers.

I've learned that the gentleman from the Kings is responsible for covering all of the Canadian teams plus the Sabres and Penguins. While there were numerous alternatives last night with games taking place involving Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg, he was in Buffalo watching the Sabres.

I'll take a Vanek to go ;)

In all seriousness, it likely is Regehr or Leopold the Kings are taking a look at. For years I've clamored for Pominville but it seems doubtful Buffalo moves him, though anything is possible with both Pominville and Vanek set to become UFAs next summer.

We are in the market for a top 4D, I don't think Green or Mitchel are back this year.
Regehr would be a good addition if he wants to be moved here.

Could be something bigger than just a Leopold/Regehr move. Seems they have a few players that have been making noise lately (Stafford, Miller), though Miller doesn't really make much sense as a backup.
But, it's most likely a minor deal if anything at all.

Last I heard, Greene was recovering well and ahead of schedule. I'm not very hopeful that Mitchell will be back.

"@DennisTFP: Kings and Sabres are in trade talks. A league source says LA will trade with Buffalo. We shall see."

Take it for what it's worth but it looks like something is brewing between both teams.
