Here's an option:

Matt Hendricks + Jason Chimera from the Caps as a package deal.

Ship Boyle out the other way possibly? Chimera and Boyle have the same salary practically. Hendricks would be a good energy guy for this team.

Gaborik+Thomas for Perron+Polak. Do it Slats.

Hagelin-Richie-Nash
Perron-Step-Cally

McD-G
Staal-Stralman
MDZ-Polak

Looks good to me.

Just because we are the Rangers, Gaborik is going to start a massive hot streak by the trade deadline.

Then the decision becomes real interesting.

I really don't think theres a decision on this. Maybe we trade him over the deadline, maybe...

We're not gonna be sellers, we're going to be buyers.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got someone like Iginla this deadline.

let's replace injury prone Gaborik with Perron who missed a full season with a concussion...

sounds like a plan....

I think it would be great if STL would do Perron + Schwartz for Gaborik. Schwartz is dynamic.

No way they add Schwartz. We'd definitely have to add a significant piece to Gabs for Jaden. I'd happily take a RHD (like Polak) off them in addition to Perron though.

And that's fair. Who says anything we have been discussing is happening today?

Not saying its you, but seems like many here want him gone by the deadline this year.

This just shouldn't even be a topic yet (in my opinion).

I think many people (including myself) think that you maximize the asset whenever the return is best. If that happens at this years deadline, so be it. If not, they don't HAVE to move him ever. I just hope they are looking into it.

You don't let him go for nothing, you sign him to a contract extension.

But at what opportunity cost? You give up Gaborik this deadline and get several young, dynamic, and fun pieces back in return. We are potentially one or two pieces away from making a cup run this year. So if, hypothetically, Gaborik would yield the highest return this deadline you would trade him and potentially throw in the towel for the rest of the season?

Gaborik + Del Zotto + Something

for

Shattenkirk + Steen + Cole

Hagelin-Richards-Nash
Steen-Stepan-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Miller
Powe-Halpern-Asham

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Shattenkirk
Cole-Strålman

I'd do that in a second, but I'm not sure the Blues does.

I don't see it as throwing in the towel. If they find a team willing to overpay for Gaborik now, you can turn around some of those pieces to get something you want as well. Add a defenseman and you are looking at a team that is similar in many ways to what got to the ECF last year. Possibly with more defensive depth if they can add someone.

I really don't think they will have the money to do that. I would rather keep Staal and Girardi.

It may well be that Sather agrees with you. We either downgrade Gaborik, or we have to make a bunch of other tough decisions around the lineup. Its tough for me because I like Gaborik and want to see him here as long as possible.

But we need to make sure, if we do make the move that it is the right one. A very good top 6 player for less than 4 million a year.

I wonder if a team like Nashville would overpay considering their lack of offense.

But think about the turn around that we'd have if we lost him, and maybe even another current piece to solidify this "overpayment".

Dubi, Anisimov, Prust, Rupp, Fedotenko, Sauer, Gaborik.

That's just too much in my opinion man. That'd essentially be throwing in the towel and could be a big blow to the locker room.
