Please don't try to logically reason with him.
As noted below by another poster, AA has more skill. He has upside.
Stepan has not been approaching his upside until about a month ago.
I was as correct to chide him for it then as I am obliged to acknowledge his improvement now.
That however is not the point.
YOU bring up "better".
The issue is not "better".
There are no sacred cows. Everybody has a value to keep, to develop, to deal.
Nash was a great deal. Would mine have been better? Arguably yes.
I did not represent that -- your words.
I am surprised because, as RangerBoy correctly pointed out, there is a track record of Slats trying to do deals that add cap for us when he can.
The Nash deal was a chance to do so, but ostensibly one not pursued due to decision to hold on to Stepan.
Who is better value for Boyle from the Hawks? Pirri or McNeil?
I prefer McNeil because of the size and 2 way skills, but Pirri has the better upside.
Um hes been the teams number 2 center since his rookie year.. kid had a hatrick in the very place we play tn in his first NHL game.. the deal for nash wouldv'e happened 10/10 times, we gave character/solid/versatile players...but to say aa is better then stepan at this point or to say aa has higher upside is out of the question... Stepan has soo much more on his resume.. captaining the US team to win a gold medal on the same team carlson, kreider, kadri, etc was on give me a break my dude.. i dont get this love for AA, stepan is the way better player since day one and is the future top center on this team.. rare talent that could be captain one day of this team.. but i agree AA has the tools but noway close to being a better player or having high upside step has..
but lets get back on track with trades.. AA, dubi none of them are coming back here.. davidson knows waht kind of players he has in them so theyre keepers..
I love how some people would have liked to trade Stepan in stead of Anisimov so we would have a 3rd line center... Yeah, forget the fact we would be without a 2nd line center... What the hell?!
Some people?
One person.
Dude,
all I'm saying is:
kudos to Stepan for maximizing what his potential seems to be.
I could live with AA and his potential and clearly increased skill tools,
ESPECIALLY
if by keeping AA instead, we had kept more assets in the Nash deal.
-----
Just to be clear, I stand by what I say.
I have never said, however, Stepan, or Girardi, etc. are bums, let's lose em cheap.
There are no sacred cows.
what is the return... that is the question

Well, one is enough. Just wait long enough and others will start thinking the same![]()
I'll bet the Sharks could get at least a 1st for Clowe.
I'm calling you on being one dimensional.
AA would be our 2C.
The point is not who would be the 2C.
The point is we would have had to give up less overall for Nash, have more overall assets to use.
Look at the big picture, please, shall we?
Not snippets of it out of context...
I'll bet the Sharks could get at least a 1st for Clowe.
Yeah.
Like when I said we have to move Richards because of his cap hit.
Initially it was all
Now it is clear that we have to move him next year, through the amnesty.
NOW you are forced to accept the facts and agree with me.
Most of you don't deserve this, but for those of you who do:![]()
That is so typical of this board and so many posters, almost like sheep just follow the crowd. I brought up issues in Zucc's game, Wolski (i hated), Krieder i thought was up and down and posted about it and also Richards i questioned him as a number 1 center was blasted for it, the biggest was me the first day arguing it was a mistake to sign Gomez and Drury and was again blasted by people. Most people simply hear what the analysts say and go by that and dont actually watch and understand the game. Maybe they dont play or whatever. But we can see the results of some of these players and how wrong i was...Ive never complained about AA or Stepan they are both very close in overall what they offer to the team however Stepan might get the node esp now, but AA has the upside. He is 6'4, has more skill, better shot, if he puts it all together of course his upside is more than Stepan. But upside is only what we think it actually has to happen.

What is our window realistically? can we wait until Del Zotto becomes better at hitting the net? because what good is an offensive dman if they can't hit the net?
of course we cant move him if we wanted to until Staal gets back.
Gaboriks stock is not high now, and we need at least a perennial 25-30g scorer coming back. Who is giving us that? You don't think the rest of the GMs in this league know what Gabs is all about?
