Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread IV - "What's all the roar over RoR?"

Would trade one of them to the team at the deadline in need I and willing to pay for a tough playoff hardened shut down guy . Yes it hurts but how are the rangers going to get cheap top end talent in return .
I the NYR's injury problems continue and they fall out of it you don't think they gamble and sell off pieces to a contender willing to overpay. ?
Also so far what exactly have you seen from this group that has shown its ability to be taken seriously . So far they pretty much do nothing exceptionally well at all

what makes you think that management would do something this drastic, knowing full well they turned over 50% of the forward lines in a shortened season? I'm frustrated, but management couldn't stop making moves for fear of weather or not a lockout would happen...

This season is what it is. Playing well or not, Nash and McD get injured = early playoff exit anyway.

You stop as constructed this team is built to win the cup ?
Low skill , low scoring , poor at face offs , no D men who can shoot .
Having a team that can't score on PP and only can win one goal games most if the time took its toll last year when the team was good. I'm sorry my opinion is t same as yours but I'm seeing a passionless misfit team with mid range skill , and a defense that as good as some people think is universally lacking in shooting and puck moving ability.
So yes I'd like to rebuild around the prospects we have well one of te sacred cow ad men to a team that is ready to win now for a top prospect and 1 at rounder and hope to not just be another bubble team but a legit powerhouse

Rebuilding...wtf... we've done that since the early 2000's. Something's wrong, we can't score. That's what's wrong. No trading D men for people who won't help us. We've seen this lack of finishing. Offense comes here to die.

My Plan for the 2013 off-season:

Trades:

To NSH:
Richards

To NYR:
Hornqvist + Ellis + NSH 1st '13

To DET:
Gaborik + Pyatt

To NYR:
Tatar + Sheahan + DET 1st '13 + DET 2nd '14

To COL:
MDZ + Boyle

To NYR:
ROR + Barrie

Signings:
Getzlaf @ 7 year for 52.5 million (7.5 million/year)
Streit @ 2 years for 7 million (3.5 million/year)
Regehr @ 2 years for 5 million (2.5 million/year)

Lines:

Hagelin-Getzlaf-Nash
Tatar-ROR-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Hornqvist
Powe-Miller-Asham/Haley/Mashinter

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Streit
Regehr-McIlrath/Ellis
Bickel

Hank
Biron

Miller on the 4th line?

You have 9 Dmen
Girardi, McD, Staal, Regehr, Ellis, Streit, McI, Barrie, Bickel.

What happened to Barrie in your line up, in the AHL?
Streit and Ellis are a little redundant.

I figured this would be a good place to ask since Richards is being discussed. I've read the new clause in the cba about contracts like Richards' being left on the cap for the remaining length of the contract if he retires really, but what confuses me is how that cap hit is calculated, is it his full cap hit or is it based on the circumventing part of the contract? And if he were traded, are we responsible for the full cap hit for the remainder of his deal if he retires early, or is it somehow based on the portion of his contract he spent with us?

Are we really complaining about losing Johnny Malkin??? REALLY?!!

You all need to step away from the ledge boys. Yes things are bad right now. This happens with teams from time to time. We have a good Defence and our goaltending is superb. Have they been this year? No, But i think thats more of anamoly than anything else we have seen.

Should we look to make changes where we can? Sure, but should be over react to this shortened season and dump guys like Staal and Girardi? HELL NO. Im not even ready to Dump Brad Richards just yet, I know he has played like complete crap but im willing to give him one more FULL year before i buy him out.

Prust is total Hindsight, do we look back and say "hey he was worth the money" now? yep, were we doing that during the summer? Nope. Montreal looked like fools signing him to that deal.

The only major change i would like to see is in Torts' system. He came here with "Safe is Death", realized it wasnt working and he didnt have the horses for that system. So he switched to whatever the hell you call this. But we now IMO have the offensive horses and Speedy players to pull off Safe is Death, its time to do it. Now isthat something that can be accomplished this season? No. Do iti n the offseason.

He doesn't comprehend this.

Can't score goals because playing a cycling system with no D men at points who can shoot is a huge problem .
Boston 1-6 on d is not better than NY outside of Chara . But Chara , Ference , Mcquad , Seidenburg and now Hsmilton can all bomb it .
Big part of the down low game is moving puck back to points . G, Staal , McD , MDZ as good as they are at gap control consistently can't get shots through or in MDZ case hit the net . This is one of the reasons NYR struggle offensively

point is, Mitchell @ 28 for Halpern @ 38 makes zero sense. The shortened season is the true culprit for lack of gelling and consistency, but a trade like this is pure Sather stupidity.

Just because he plays on the 4th line doesn't mean it shouldn't matter...

Halpern has been good. I know he doesn't provide a ton of offense but he isn't a black hole either. If the Rangers are relying on him for offense it means 9 other players are severely slacking in that department.

Girardi average shot / uses wrister a lot / poor PP player
Staal average shot / uses wrister a lot / takes forever to get shot off / poor to avg PP player
MCd work in progress offensively / average shot / not used on PP enough IMO
MDZ average to above velocity , misses net , rare,y one times , when does misses net / flashes if good PP but still inconsistent .

Ok Dorado fair point. But have you seriously convinced yourself that the forwards we have don't have enough talent to become more effective offensively? The rangers have similar players as teams like the bruins do. For the flaws you are pointing out it sounds more like a coaching problem than a personnel problem.

I think going forward with say
STEP ( bring in ROR not GETZ) JTM , Oscar Lindbergh if ready or a get like HALPERN as centers
CK / Hagelin/ PYatt ( ? Maybe trade him too )
NASH / FASTH IF works out / CALLY as top 3 RW
A solid gritty tough down low. 4 th line
And buy out Brad and trade , Gaby. , Boyle , one of either STaal , or Girardi and get a good overpayment combo of players and ready to play prospects and of picks of which at least one or two can really shoot it or move it on the back end and then see what you have and look for a UFA or rental .
I'm sorry I am in minority about another rebuild but I want this team to rebuild around a new core and get more young assets from one or two members of old core

I've never had such a strong aversion to Ryan Getzlaf until these past few weeks.

Getzlaf and Perry are the type of UFA's that teams should covet. 27 years old. Due to the new CBA any team can only offer them 7 years. That takes them to 34. I would be MUCH more comfortable having Getzlaf from 27-34 than Richards from 31-40.

Getzlaf also has the ability to effect a game in more than one way.

I think Getz and Perry are a package deal if they both hit the market, and bringing in both of them without sacrificing some depth is going to be a tall order. That being said, I think they both stay in Anaheim.

If the Rangers buyout Richards and trade Gaborik there is the money to do it. It hasn't hurt their depth this year having those guys eating up all of that cap space.

Not depth but hurting our play. That being said, having Getz/Perry sounds much nicer than Gaborik/Richards... as much as I like Richards... he isn't playing well right now, and I worry he's now on the huge decline

I think we should stand pat, If MDZ for O'Reilly comes up in the near future, we go from there. We have the horses to go deep into the playoffs. Just gotta get some chemistry going.

i know he has been "good", but my point is like for like here. Mitchell was fine in that role, younger, and keeping him would have led to more consistency in the lineup. It just seems like a pointless roster turnover move. Mitchell has 6g already... just a dumb move.

Getzlaf would fit the bill as #1 C in NY much better than BR would, at least this version of BR.

Perry would be very nice replacement for Gaborik

I think it may have been a term thing with Mitchell more than the amount he received. The Rangers have some young forwards who will be pushing for a spot soon.

I totally agree. Would be great but I doubt it happens

If you manage to take back no salary in trading Gaborik, it MIGHT be possible, but with that being unlikely and having to re-sign Stepan, McDonagh and Hagelin? I just can't see it unless they take a discount as a package.

I love Getzlaf, but he had 11 goals and 57 points in 82 games last year... I don't want to buy out Richards, then have to sit through more trade scenarios next year...
