My Plan for the 2013 off-season:

Trades:

To NSH:
Richards

To NYR:
Hornqvist + Ellis + NSH 1st '13

.....

You think Richards has this much value?

I forgot w/apologies, but I believe it was iamitter who said if a player is traded to another team, THAT team can NOT buy out the traded player w/a compliance.

So presuming that is accurate, Nashville would be stuck with him. Unless...

Preds cannot move Webber before, but he has a huge contract .

Richards + massive overpay (_______? McD? + Stepan?)
for
Webber + rights to Radulov, assuming we even want?

Radulov?

Puke.

Rebuilding...wtf... we've done that since the early 2000's. Something's wrong, we can't score. That's what's wrong. No trading D men for people who won't help us. We've seen this lack of finishing. Offense comes here to die.

Spot on!
That's why we have to kill whatever it is that is killing the offense.

Die, lack of finishing, die!:highclap::sueme::fence:

Girardi average shot / uses wrister a lot / poor PP player
Staal average shot / uses wrister a lot / takes forever to get shot off / poor to avg PP player
MCd work in progress offensively / average shot / not used on PP enough IMO
MDZ average to above velocity , misses net , rare,y one times , when does misses net / flashes if good PP but still inconsistent .

Well said. Agree, except Staal shot above average. Has a hard slapper. Agree he takes forever with it. Avg, w/upside.

For our Defense, its not so much quality of shot as it is simply hitting the net. I'd say that would be a good first step.

The Rangers last year looked really bad before Mitchell and Hags were put together in lineup.

The previous 2 games they lost to Habs and Panthers. The shots were as followed:

Panthers - 38
Rangers - 20

Canadiens - 31
Rangers - 17

Mitchell and Hags inserted into lineup and outshoot WSH 32-21 and win game 6-3, start of 5 game win streak and November that turned around the season.

Mitchell was a special player along with how Hags in which they helped the Rangers move away from extensive shot blocking and starting to resemble some sort of puck carrying/distribution. The Rangers simply had more puck on stick with those two on the ice and their record showed that. Mitchell highest RelCorsi on Rangers last year, Hags 2nd, Dubi 3rd. Now with 2/3rds of best puck possessing players gone, team is mediocre.

Well said, except
despite Hags, they still do too much shot blocking + not enough puck movement
and
tney are not mediocre, but subpar

For our Defense, its not so much quality of shot as it is simply hitting the net. I'd say that would be a good first step.

Which is why Stralman has been our best shooter from the back end. He doesn't give fancy, sniping shots, but he probably hits the net more than anyone from back there. I don't know why Torts doesn't try putting Callahan and Hagelin in front of the net on the PP with Stralman aiming low with his slapshot.

While I can appreciate a player that can play a puck control style. Mitchell being a special player is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. Was he not in the lineup in the playoffs when we had no puck possession? Does that not count for anything? He had 1 assist total in the playoffs. You clearly want to prove your point so much that you resort to ridiculous exaggerations. It'll be a lot easier to take you seriously if you said "valuable" player and not "special". I think Hags had A LOT more to do with the turn around than Mitchell. The guy had 5 goals and like 3 of them came in something like 4 games.

No one is taking Wade Richards . NYR/ Slats once again an embarrassment of riches . Post buyout Brutal brad at 2-4 m a year is a good deal . He fell off the planet

Enough with John ****ing Mitchell. I don't give a **** about his possession numbers. But here's something you'd love:

Would you look at that? One goal off of Johnny Malkin and into the net, and three other ones because our Puck Possession Savior turns the puck over.

Richards has some huge salary years coming up. Nashville is already paying Weber a mint. Cap recapture hurts the Rangers. They can still possibly take a cap penalty in the future if Richards doesn't fulfill the term of his contract and Richards is traded. Compliance buyout means the Rangers are only obligated to the buyout which doesn't count against the cap. Richards retires on them, the Rangers will take a cap penalty if he doesn't complete the contract. No black and white. Crystal clear.

I suspect that there is not a possibility that the Ranger owners would even think about trying to peddle him with us paying 50 % of his salary with that kind of noose dangling over the teams cap hit if he retired ? Keep in mind that if he was available at half price...he might be attractive and we get a good pic or two back which might take the sting out of a bad cap hit near the end of his contract . Something to toss around and discuss...we then take that Richards annual salary and use it on Getzlaf .

So...we get Getzlaf , a couple of high picks and all it cost us is an owner paying a few Million every year to another team....who feel a guy like Richards can be the missing piece for them and they give us assets back .

Hockey wise...it could hurt us for a season or two down the road ..unless those guys we get back are playing on entry level contracts which eases the pain of a Richards retiring early if he goes that route .

Who knows...Dolan might balk at the fact of paying that kind of buy out on Richards and want to explore this option . It might be a lot cheaper on his wallet ? I like the idea of getting a couple of assets back especially if they are blue chippers . Who knows...there are a lot of teams that might feel he would put them over the top ?

Brad Richards is a hockey player who has never done anything else in his life or knew how to do anything else ...and IMO he will not contemplate retirement for at least 4-5 more seasons .

Does that sound crazy ? :D

It does sound Crazy because Brad Ricards is playing so poorly . No one wants a washed up soft , slow , unproductive overpaid former 1c fallen to 2c -3c tweener . The guy is awe fully bad so far and most of last year .

Dorado...there are a few teams that might take him in a minute if they got him at half price and they were close to a Cup . They would not have to worry about a big cap hit because if he retired then it is on the Rangers . The only thing the team that trades for him would have to worry about is the assets they trade for him don't turn out to be Amonte and Weight like players .

I think Richards has a lot of hockey left in him...but not under a coach that plays Torts style . He will play for at least 5 years...it is all he knows how to do and he would also want that money but maybe not the last 2 years at Million thus he would retire and the Rangers get stuck in those 2 years .

Thus we would not feel as much pain if in the meantime we signed Getzlaf and hopefully won a Cup in the next 4 years and we still had the two young assets on our team on entry level contracts when that cap hit of BR's comes back on to us . It would be a lot easier load to haul IMO .

LOL...I know... a lot of stuff could happen between now and then . :D

I have no doubt they COULD trade Richards if it ame to it. Probably get a decent to good package too.

But with the cap benefit recapture out there as a possibility I would expect them to buy him out instead -again if it came to it, he has a year and a half to find his game.

Nothing will happen until next year's deadline, at minimum.

If we could predict who will win the Cup in the next few years...then they would be bad after the win & get a lottery pick...those are the type of assets I would love to land back in a deal ....dreaming LOL .

I was trying to forget all that, thanks man!

Even if Richards gets traded to Nashville and he retires there, WE get the cap hit. Which is why I think he'll just get bought out here.

And as ludicrous as that trade proposal is, it can't even happen because Weber can't be traded for a year post an offer sheet.

Its too much of a risk to trade Richards because if he retires before the contract is expired, the Rangers are on the hook with 6.6 million in dead cap space for the remainder of the contract.

Compliance buy out is the only guarantee the Rangers are free, forever, from the contract and any cap hit.

I can see one of two options:

1- He plays the rest of 12-13 and plays all of 13-14 with the Rangers, and gets bought out spring/summer 2014.

2- He plays the rest of 12-13 and gets bought out this spring/summer.

IMO, option 2 is ideal.

Trade for O'Reilly, either now, deadline, or in the summer. Buy out Richards. And have spare cap space to re-up our important RFAs.

if richards is moved we need a RD with a dangerous slap shot/one timer/snap shot coming back. i wouldn't even mind miller/stepan/boyle/halpern being our top 4 centers(no order implied) if we got a guy like subban or byfuglien on the point. it'd completely rework how teams have to defend against our PP

who is available if richie continues to suck?

No one wants an on the decline Brad Richards at his current salary . If NYR , one of if not the richest teams in the league would want a divorce from this wimp what makes anyone think he is wanted elsewhere ? I understand the whole cap basement issue for some teams . Nashville is a bad match for Wade Richie as they are as low scoring and defensive as we are . Post buyout I see Richards going as a 2-3 C to a team like Van / Det / back to Dallas or maybe SJ or Ana . A team that plays actual offense with passing and skating and he will go there at a discount not at a 7 m cap hit and 12 m in real money .
The guy is finished just like REDDDEN , DRURY , GOMEZ , Dionne. , LAFLEUR , HODGE , Vadnais , etc etc
