One thing I have to question.. is ROR a Torts kind of player? I mean he's had one good season out of 3 (yes I know, he was young), and he's already holding out thinking he's worth much more than what the Avs are offering.. Is this something Torts wants or would put up with?
Considering his impressive two way play, I would say that Torts would like him.

so maybe we should see if the Avs want Richards as the proven forward then. in all seriousness, if we buy out Richards we need a #1 center, neither ROR or Stepan are that.

A lot of hockey folks believe O'Reilly is a #1 in the same class as Bergeron.

Stepan is close. If he continues to have chemistry with Nash.

A team can win with those types. Boston did it.

Where did I say Stepan was 25? Please quote it. Otherwise stop putting words in my mouth.

It was an exaggeration. You're making it sound like O'Reilly was SO much younger than Stepan. He was 1 year younger (actually 8 months) in a season he scored 26 points but that was more than made up by the fact that he already played 1 season while Stepan was a rookie.

Yea, people here knock stepan because he isnt a Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos type. How many of those guys are there?

Can win a heck of a lot of games with capable 2 way centers and a good defense/goalie.

Look at years from the draft. O'Reily scored 55 points in his third year from his draft. On a terrible team.

Stepan scored 45.

O'Reilly scored those points while playing against the other teams best players consistently.

Stepan was getting sheltered minutes.

You're comparing a 3rd year vet to a rookie. Was O'Reilly getting the other team's best players in the years he scored 26 goals in consecutive years?

It was a valid point that O'Reilly was getting 16 minutes a night in the NHL while Stepan was in college.

not sure why people are discussing Stepan vs O'Reilly. Its been made clear the Avs are not looking for a center in return. Stepan does not fit as an asset to be moved for ROR.

Anyway I dont know why we bicker about trades that may or may not happen. we all know Sather never loses trades.

a) Maybe there's a reason he was a 3rd line checking center while Stepan was a top 6 player for us and b) Brian Boyle had 26 points last year, while being invisible for 90 percent of the year.

Stepan was a top 6 center who was protected and didnt have to take defensive zone faceoffs.... Not really a top 6 two way center.

And do we really need to start another Boyle argument?

I don't see how that's relevant. That doesn't make him a better player. Once again Stepan was young when he came into the league himself. Not like there's a huge difference. If you compare ROR at 8 months younger than Stepan, Stepan blows him away in offensive production.

And if you compare them at age 20, ROR is a far better defensive player, and provided more offense....

So what is the point of this argument?

1) A guy wasn't a two way center at 20, stop the press!

2) Not if people can have self control and avoid starting a Brian Boyle debate just because his name is mentioned. I don't think it would be fair to expect people to not mention him in any thread because some people can't help starting an argument about him. Bringing him up was relevant.

Del Zotto for ROR is a fair deal imo. I doubt Colorado will find a better deal.
Del Zotto will end up on their top pairing playing with EJ.
