I've "criticized" people for offering predictable scenarios? Not sure that's true. I'm longing for the front office to do more than just buy the biggest name on the free agent. Find talent in other organizations where you see something a player that maybe that team doesn't. Find diamonds in the rough of other teams.

Let's be honest, it's sad that this board probably is pretty accurate as to what will occur this summer. Richards will go and Sather will turn around and give that money to Stastny. Or Moulson. Or Vanek.

But wouldn't it be nice to have a GM who actually had some fire to do his job rather than by the next Richards, Gomez, Drury or Redden?

You are right. I should have worded as critical of the ideas. That was my fault. Poor wording.

They make sense when you panic, sure.

The bolded is refreshing.

Panic? At some point you have to go for. Drafting and developing second liners doesn't get you over the hump. It's easy to sit back and say, "don't do this, don't do that," but at some point you have to go for it and try to win.

It's not like the Rangers are missing out on Crosby and Ovechkin because they signed play x in the offseason.

Its' refreshing to see some outside the box proposals for first line centers as opposed to the usual discussions like debating Cally for the millionth time. Those who don't like these ideas needn't worry though - I am sure Sather will do something typical like sign Stastny. Sigh.

Is Sather capable of playing chess? Hes played checkers virtually his entire tenure here.

What is Kreider's upside? Can he and Stepan be packaged for a young stud at center?

What about McIlrath? Can he still somehow be sold as a top 10 draft pick?

The younger guys? Which ones fit into the plan going forward? Is there even a plan?

Sather has truly made a mess of building the forward core. Time and time again, there is just no focus. Is this team going to continue churning out 2nd/3rd line tweeners and try filling the wholes via outside the organization? Hows that worked out? Not well.

Fair enough.

I have a hard time looking at personnel moves because this team lacks an identity. And that starts from the top. There needs to be an organizational philosophy of what kind if team they want to be. To me, until that happens, all personnel moves are just shots in the dark.

For someone who's all about having a plan, yet you seem to think that Sather doesn't really have a plan because our forwards?.. Yet Nash, Kreider, Stepan, Mcdonagh IS the core. and they will be playing here together for a while. well maybe Stepan. So he actually does have somewhat of a plan.

At some point? Have you been paying attention for the last 20 years? The team always tries to fill its needs from the outside. In theory, thats fine, but when you are doing the SAME...DAMN...THING...every single off-season, theres plenty of blunders that stem from inserting players that are the only choice instead of the right choice.

since Ryan Kesler is making 5 mil as a cap hit while scoring 70 pts during the 09-11 seasons, Ryan Callahan should NOT be making more than 5 mil..

Callahan deserves more than 5 mil when he has more than 60 pts in a season.. Kesler can do the same and if not more than Callahan... if Sather signs Callahan for 6 mil per year, he is hurt this team more than he knows..

Stepan and Kreider are upper-tier dependable players? Nash is a leader?

McDonagh is a defenseman.

The forwards are a mess. They have been for a long, long time.

would you guys be interested in minnys granlund or otts spezza? And do you think any of them could be traded for?

Good post.

They're classic anybody moves because they make sense. MSL is still playing at a high level and wants to be here and Stastny is probably the best center in FA. As the GM there are only so many options. We're not talking overpaying Redden here.

FWIW I wouldn't want Stastny either but it could be worse. I have a feeling he'll keep Brad around.

Completely disagree with this. Maybe it's true for Sather, though. This is exactly why you need a fresh GM, someone who's young and hungry.

I don't disagree. They don't have an identity. Maybe the only reason I am for signing Stastny is because at the end of the day I just believe it is what will happen. Possibly as a way so I can be excited about something, rather than disappointed.

I like the thinking of trading Kreider for a young stud c, it's just a solid hockey trade that fills a need for us although its leaves another one. Is it then we sign Vanek?

The forwards are a mess. They have been for a long, long time.

Stepan is 23.
Kreider is 22
Nash is 29 and a 30G scorer

The rest of the forwards are not very good though Zucc is coming into his own maybe. OVERALL the forwards group is not great

but its funny you preach patience, yet at 23/22 respectively neither Stepan or Kreider are dependable players or will ever grow into one.

talk about what have you done for me lately.

congratulations you have gotten me to defend Stepan who has been on my **** list for months.

i wouldnt mind Grandlund, either the one on Flames or the more that has been in the league longer the one on the Wild, they are brothers. i do like Spezza. Rather have Spezza at 7 mil than Callahan at 6. or whatever he wants. :help:

Where else are they going to fill the needs? How many times have they had a chance to draft an elite prospect? The last one they drafted died. They typically pick around the middle of the first round and then develop a second liner. The Rangers haven't had the kind of opportunity the Blackhawks and Penguins have had in the first round.

Honestly, what do you expect the Rangers to do? They've developed a real solid group of defenseman and they have an elite goalie. How else are they getting the elite top line talent?

What Im preaching is enough patience to accurately identify if these players fit into long-term plans, or if they can be spun for something better.

That takes work. A helluva lot more work than handing a blank check to Paul ****ing Stastny

The cause for concern or I have is Stastny is 28. Meaning he's in his prime and is this as good as he's going to get?

:handclap::handclap::handclap:

It's insane how bipolar our fanbase can be at times.

Spezza is 32. Why trade for him at 32 years old. He will cost a lot. Granlund would cost a pretty penny as well.

Well any #1C or potential #1 C is gonna cost a lot I would think. Everyone is in agreement that the rangers need a number 1 C so its gonna cost something valuable.
