No optimism allowed here.

Cynicism, realism, or radicalism only.

I think its more cynicism, radicalism, and keeping it real... real dumb.

Realism would imply some semblance of rational thought or pragmatism being applied. That **** don't fly here.

Doesn't it seem like that's always how it works out? Heatley, for the most part. Erixon. Nash. Now MSL.

That is Sather's MO. he targets players from other teams that aren't englamoured with their situation. And he tracks them. Richards, Redden, Nash.

Rangers have been linked to Hemsky how long. Boyle. Doan (but bc of the uncertainty in phoenix)

Maybe I'm old school..or just old...But I'm with you...Object of the game is to win EVERY year....The Ramgers have been in limbo for awhile...Do we forget who will be in charge of the "rebuilding" with prospects?...Didn't it work out great for Edmonton, the Isles, Ottawa and others.? ....I couldn't care less about young vs old...I care about good vs bad....

And I am not seeing the shiny prospects given up for worn out vets here...I am seeing one of the best scorers in the game being brought in.....and with a little more fine tuning this team---which even now can probably handle most teams in the EAST might stand a chance of winning it, even if not a favorite....As Lil Stevie Forbert said, You can not win if you do not play(pay)...

Yeah, old-timer, I feel the same way. I think adding MSL, (have I mentioned already that he's a career PPG in the playoffs?) would have a very dynamic effect on this team's top three lines, and definitely gives their playoff chances a big boost. And, frankly, unless TB is asking Miller, McIlrath, Skjei or a #1, I'd have no problem adding a prospect with Callahan to get a deal done.

I'm guessing its 2 different tweets.. Pittsburgh for Callahan (which IMO is BS) and the Callahan for MSL trade rumor wont go away.

I guess the phrasing kinda threw me. Pittsburgh for Callahan is really odd way of saying Callahan to Pittsburgh

then what are your alternatives? you were just griping without proposing any sort of actual plan for what to do.

Lol ok. I listed my concerns, but if you want to call that griping, have at it.

I would prefer that we trade Cally for at least 1 player with top 6 potential who is on the cusp of breaking out or breaking into the league. These types of players aren't all that hard to identify. It's much easier to spot them when they are 22/23 than when they are 18. Connolly has been talked about in the past, as an example.

I would prefer that we get younger as a team and build a long term contender rather than trade for older players and have a limited window to compete.

It sounds like the MSL deal is going to happen, whether I want it to or not. I can only hope that we don't have to give up anything significant in addition to Cally, and that MSL can continue to play well, for the Rangers, for the next 3+ years.

I keep hearing this, but who are these players? Keep in mind that they have to be on a team that is close enough to the cup that they think adding Callahan for a few months will be worth it. So worth it that they'll trade a player who can be spotted as a potential top 6 player about to break out. Connolly. Who else? Would TB trade Connolly for Callahan as a rental? I doubt it personally.

Brett Connolly might end up being a AAAA superstar. Missing that je ne se qua since he's been surpassed a bunch of TB forwards.

They called up Namestinkov over him today after Kucherov, Johnson, Palat, Killorn, Brown, and Panik.

7 forward prospects ahead of him in the TB organization. 7.

What does that say after he played an NHL season two years ago?

I think they're all just mad because he only wants to join the Rangers, which will make us a better side.

Dreger "Kesler is not the same player he was 3 yrs ago. Buyer beware with him. He's not as intense, physical or productive as he once was"

I like Kesler a lot, but I agree, this shouldn't by a solution to the C problems for the NYR. Let someone else cough up assets for him. He's basically Callahan at center.

Dreger "I've heard Pittsburgh for Callahan and the Martin St.Louis for Callahan rumour won't go away"

Dreger "if the Rangers need to be willing to beef up the Callahan package for St.Louis"

Hope_Smoke ‏@Hope_Smoke 1m
Dreger "Callahan is looking for upwards of $7 million dollars a year"

Dreger "I can't see any NHL team giving that money to Callahan"

I really dislike Dreger. I don't know why.

Change of pace here, saw a tweet quoting McKenzie as saying Stepan is being discussed as a return for Kesler... It's probably a lie, but go ahead and discuss.

Now thats going for it.

I don't make that trade though, I think this year is an aberration for Stepan. And kesler while a championship caliber player is a little too iffy health wise for me to give up Stepan for.

But just a thought. If the rangers are willing to make some of these type of moves, you would think that having gotten a good read on the rangers, AV feels they are close to making a run, close enough where you make a stepan for kesler + trade

I want to win keeping intact the largest portion of the core as possible. It means something to me, to watch and enjoy the journey with players who have developed a history with the rangers. To me that means something

Thats the GM's job.

Instead hes chasing a 38 year old. Its pretty frustrating.

As I said earlier, I hope all options are still on the table and this doesn't become a long-term soap opera and infatuation like the Nash situation
