does Brooks ever have a clue whats going on? anything that seems good for the Rangers, Brooks always tries to be pessimistic about it.

Or could prove more attractive for team's. What if Anaheim blew us away with an offer for Girardi and then resigned him with the knowledge that he'd bring Callahan along with him in a matter of months.

Anaheim is going to sign Callahan for almost 7 million dollars for 7 years? In addition to signing Girardi for ~6 for 6? They have Getzlaf and Perry both making 8+ million until the end of time, Silverberg is on an ELC that ends next year, Fowler makes 4 million for a number of years. Hiller is a UFA, and even his backup gets 2.9 million dollars. Beauch gets 3.5, as does Allen.

Unless they take apart a very successful team, I don't see them fitting both of those guys at or above the prices that they're giving to the Rangers.

The more interesting angle is how Brooks notes the MSL talks havent advanced one bit.

all pure speculation.. need clicks and papers bought..

since in all likelyhood cally wont sign, even if we have to give him 6yr 6m aav we can afford to do it.. now that terms prob have been met, they fight over nmc and ntc

rangers wont let both walk.. gs the better investment long term.. pretty easy decision

I'm starting to think you'd like to not see this get done before the deadline to spite us, rather than have MSL for the remainder of the season. Which, if Sather is hell bent on getting him, it would be prudent to do so for the current stretch of games and in to the playoffs.

And why should they?

MSL wants out, he wants to go to the Rangers... Should Sather just pony up the farm for him? You know, I know, everyone knows Sather wants him, but it's not as simple as that, it's like a chess match for Sather. He knows what moves need to be made (for both teams) but he's not going to make what seems to be a rash move to appease the HFboard armchair GM's... He'll wait it out and make his move. Odd's are we'll probably will be bickering about the pieces involved, but it's there for the making if the cigar toting GM wants it.....:teach2:

I want to get Marty for less then Cally. Trade like a 2nd for him if their hand is forced.

Keep Cally as a rental.

Nash
MSL
Zucc
Cally

Or move Nash to LW.

Even without the center depth, if healthy, we could likely compete with that group for the EC.

I mean yeah optimally you milk this trade for the least amount of assets possible, but I don't see any situation where a.) the Rangers don't give up significant assets to get this trade done and b.) don't trade Callahan.

I wonder if the teams have a deadline of like 5 pm tomorrow. Trades tend to happen right before a game, for some reason. I wonder if GM's establish a deadline before the game.

I'm gonna say a trade happens by 530 tomorrow.

Well Im starting to think too many people are getting enamored with the idea of MSL in a Rangers jersey to consider 2 very important facts as the situation stands right now:

1. Theres a price to be paid that will go beyond just a Callahan for MSL swap.

2. Just because MSL wants a trade, it wont stop Yzerman from getting the right return. Hes under contract, so Yzerman can tell him to **** off with his demands.

that wont happen according to Bobby Mac, Girardi will be signed shortly

The two aren't actually mutually exclusive. Let's say Bobby Mac talked to a source with the Rangers and that source said, "yep, we just submitted a proposal that looks pretty darn like Girardi's asking price; I'd say we're pretty close to getting it done." Meanwhile Brooksie has talked to someone in Girardi's camp, and that source says "oh, yeah, that was our old asking price - the new one is considerably higher. We're still not close."

Why would they make their own deadline days before the deadline?

Is there any truth to Girardi being close to a deal. Kind of weird that there has been no follow up at all after McKenzie said it. Did anyone hear him say that or is it a twitter rumor?

I'm hoping the only way Sather trades for him is at his price. Of not, oh well. Wait until the offseason.

Where did Mckenzie say girardi was close to signing? Seems against what basically everyone else is saying

apparently on NBC Sports Network he said Rangers are close to 6 years 5.5 a year deal with Girardi. I didn't hear it but it is all over twitter and in the GIrardi thread.

PHP:
If Richards were a free agent this summer, would you give him 6.67M from age 33-39?

He said only hf posters say brich will be bought out but no Mckenzie etc think so to .

I still think girardi signs and Cally goes but man if both go they should get back a ton for the future . It's a tough one cause I still don't think they can beat Pitts if Boston. Blessing in disguise? Not sure

for some reason i bet Ott is a Ranger by Wednesday 3PM... just a feeling i am having..

Agree with both points. Although I'm still not ruling out a 3 team trade where Callahan gets flipped. Finding a fit for Steve Y to flip Callahan to would definitely stalemate things while they work on a deal.

Yes, assuming his price is low as possible. If we give up futures for him, I'll be extremely upset, specifically any of our high end prospects (Miller, Fast, Allen, etc) or a 1st.

A 2nd, i can live with.
