Speculation: Trade Rumor/Speculation Thread XXI: Boomer is running this board.

Yep pretty much, and the speculation was only fueled by two separate posters coming on and claiming they had ties to MSL, and heard this trade was in the works. One of which was before Boomer started last night, but after the "Marty, Marty, Marty..." tweet from earlier.

It makes sense, but makes no sense. I think we are at the point of wait and see now.
 
Narrowing all of Boomer's tweets to a few players:

Stamkos
St. Louis
Subban
Ericsson
Karlsson
Alfredsson
Backstrom
Franzen
Johnasson
Nyquist
Zetterberg

The guys I think are most believable from that list:

St. Louis, Backstrom, Subban in that order.

Boomer said only one of Callahan and Girardi is getting traded.

Boomer also said that Callahan is getting traded.


Hence, one could assume, that Girardi is not getting traded.

I'd think Boomer is quite pleased with how this worked out.
He did a fine job. And of course he had some help releasing this into the ether.

Thats why his tweet about it being a done deal is almost certain Id say. Because Boomer himself would never have caught wind of any of it as definitively as he did, apparently, because the front office would never put it out in any form if it wasnt agreed upon.

These deals are often so iffy until the last moment, they cant risk it.
And with two respected, high profile guys, they dont want to slam anyone; they just want to get it done.

That's the best way to describe it. In a way, it makes all the sense in the world, and in another, it seems insane.

All I know is, barring a first going with Cally, I'd be pretty pleased with that return. St Louis is an absolute freak of nature, and for this year and next year at least, I'm very confident that he'll continue to perform well.

Yep. He also said, "RD are hard to find..." When asked if Girardi was being traded. I'm under the assumption Sather really wants to keep him around.

He said they played in gold medal game. He said it wasn't the Bruins, Penguins, Flyers, Maple Leafs, Devils, or Islanders. He said the team was in the East Conference.

St. Louis doesn't make sense to me until you put that "Marty Marty Marty..." tweet out.
Caps are starting to struggle. Backstrom takes care of our 1c/2c problem.
Subban is due up for a massive contract increase. He wants north of 9 million dollars.

So... Those were my 3 most likely from the list of players I gave - for Callahan.

I didn't see that one. In which case, Subban isn't likely at all. Backstrom and St. Louis still on my list.
 
Trading Callahan for St. Louis is the wrong direction this team should be going in. What's next, keep Richards and his awful 6+ million cap hit for the next 6 years? So we can have the ancients reuinited and ironically without the coach we just fired less than a year ago?

Sather is so demented its insane. This decrepit old fart has been dragging this team down the last 14+ years, enough is enough!!!

Callahan should be going in a trade for young assets.

St. Louis is suddenly going to put us ahead of Pittsburgh and Boston? Chicago and Anaheim?

Cripes.

I have more faith in the Wilpons getting their heads out of their collective rear-ends then i do of Sather doing anything right for the Rangers.

He said uprgrade first line (no Subban) and no long term contracts (no Backstrom)

He said, "in a good way" following the 3 Martys. When is a Marty chant ever a good thing?

Someone then replied "never in a good way, NEVER" and his raspanse was, "oh yes it will be!"

Are we getting Broduer, or another Marty?
 
I want to believe that the return is Backstrom. He makes too much sense for this team. Does it make sense for the Caps? Not much.

St. Louis is the shiny new toy. Although I think him with Vigneault is an unreal combo. If the option is available, hypothetically, Backstrom would be the guy you acquired for now and the future. St. Louis just for the now.

Freeze lifts in eight hours, but I'd be surprised if it goes down tomorrow.

The Marty thing wasn't part of a conversation, it was him being cryptic a day before talking about it more. I just don't want to get my hopes up, it's so easy to do, one of these days I'll wake up and we'll have Jarkko Ruutu and a new shiny second round pick :(

what about everything Boomer has tweeted and the fact that St. Louis is the one player who Boomer won't respond tweets to. Every other player he has said no, ranging in the emphasis he put on the no. Don't you think if it had no legs, he would have shot back, no way to St. Louis when asked.

Sure Backstrom would be great. So would Subban. But... Callahan isn't getting us anything close to that
