More Ive thought about it the more I love this move - considering the tough spot they were in with Cally to begin with. It'll be fine long term, even better than having signed Cally for 5 yrs.
But this is a NOW move, and they've needed an offensive boost for now. This thing is wide open, and I've really liked what Ive seen from this team. Really liked it. As I'd hoped, they've kept some of Torts defensive consciousness while changing everything, including a vastly improved PP, which St Louis helps even further.
I am concerned about their size but not because of MSL; he's more than proved adept at handling himself in the NHL.
But 14 years into Sather's tenure, and 7 or 8 since he really got down to business and started growing this thing properly, it's time to reach for it. Reasonably, with cost-sensitive moves.
But reach for it, or you'll never get it.
And I havent seen it anywhere, but if you exclude that horrendous road trip to start the year, those 9-10 games, NYR have to have a Top 10 record since. Not that we can erase those games, they happened LOL. But a lot of good has happened since. A lot. And I dont think they've peaked yet, though they were getting real close before the break.
So it's all good IMO.
Rangers record against IMO the league's elite. Ducks, BLues, Hawks, Pens, Sharks, Bruins, Kings.
4-9-1. 30 GF. 46 GA.

Right, but Boomer never said MSL, but people that want to bring proof bring up that poster as one of their proofs. Without that poster I doubt most people would think it was MSL.

I mean I hate discounting games but they're a completely different team from that opening road trip. If you take away the road games against the Kings, Blues, Ducks, and Sharks, their record is 3-6-1 with 22 GF and 25 GA. Still not great but not as lopsided as the above appears.

Assuming that we trust the details he's given, there really aren't many other players that fit everything he's said. I think that's where most people are getting MSL from.

Well I see the one about top 6, possible top line being the return. Maybe Im nitpicking but msl is a sure fire 1st liner.
If Marty has a list of teams, we would get blown out of the water with Cally and a first. He may demand a trade, but he wouldn't handcuff the team that bad.
Another note, just because we've handed big money before to less deserving guys in no way obligates us to do it now for Cally. Lessons are learned, the line was drawn. Sucks it happened to a heart and soul captain, but if Drury was a mistake then so is Callahan's proposal.
