He said that a full day before he started on Callahan, I believe.

Besides, he said the player is gritty and that the Rangers would be getting a conditional pick if anything. Doesn't scream a St. Louis trade to me.

St. Louis is pretty gritty.

The thing is, it fits with what Boomer is hinting at. It's speculation at best, but it's decent speculation within the situation. I mean, there have been rumours in the past connecting MSL and the Rangers.

The only way I see it is if he demanded a trade or if NY plans on ponying up the kitchen sink.

That looks beautiful

Maybe Rangers are giving up a pick too. That would even it up a bit

I'm sorry :)

There seems to have been a general change in thought throughout our fanbase, and this is the evidence. It's like the new "generation" of thinking dictates that it's fine and dandy to trade young players, prospects picks for old men like it's no big thing. 10 years ago, the concept of trading a pick for an older player nearing 40, wouldn't have been acceptable.

This is by no means an attack. I'm 28, and maybe you have 30 years on my, it just got me thinking :)

I do get that, and if it's the best offer we get (all of this being speculation, I know), OK... BUT, Callahan will probably be playing 8 years from now. Will he be any good, likely not. But will MSL be playing in 8 years? Definitely not... .

Basically if Cally insists on the $$$ he's been asking for Sather is not going to cave. So if it goes to end of the year we lose him. With nothing. This is not a trade (if indeed there is anything to it) for 8 years from now. It's about not losing a player and having nothing in his place with the bonus of getting a player who can certainly put up points the remainder of this season and put us firmly in a play-off position. Maybe he puts up the points next year, too.

We have something of value. More value than certainly many of the trades that's been speculated about. And again if Cally sticks firm, he will not be playing for the Rangers 8 years from now either.

so it will either be Callahan for MSL straight up.

or

Callahan+Miller+Fast+McIlrath+Skjei+Duclair+next 3 1st round picks for MSL

You forgot the conditional 7th. ;)

Hell I hope I'm wrong and eat crow. Would love Marty on this team. I just don't see it.

hey guys...Ruutu has been mentioned and fits the criteria so far, but I thought I read somewhere where he specifically said "not within the division", no?

This is by no

well lets be real. our window closes when Hank's play declines. we saw what we were without him in on his game earlier this year. a 1st round pick, which may become nothing, will not help us win while Hank is in his prime. MSL gives us and Hank a better shot at a cup than Callahan and a 1st

The other factor is that Sather knows he's either retired or dead in 8 years. He cares much more about the next 2 so St Louis makes much more sense for him, especially if the best offer he's getting is Stewart and a 2nd.

I really can't believe this is getting as much attention as it is. Seems to make zero sense for Tampa Bay.

I think the best part is it's being talked about as done. This is all speculation based on hints and tweets, hahaha. Ya bunch of sluethers!

He hasn't come out and said that directly, but has pretty much said no to every team within the division minus Carolina and Washington.

Don't his kids live in Conn? It's possible MSL has decided he wants to finish up near his children while they grow up. He does have an NMC and could control where he goes.

His home is in ct in the off season.. Chance to play closer to that home and play with his boy

True. He does seem to spend most of every offseason around here. Some of my friends used to train with him pretty regularly every offseason. Seemed like he was around more than he wasn't for sure.

Good point... we also draft like ****... maybe it's the team being in different places that shapes our consciousness.

You're basically saying that there's no better offer, but I don't believe that.

Who would you think we could get for Cally right now that puts up more points? And where we lose no other players? Not being confrontational but the names we've heard so far I wouldn't want.

There'll be a lot of disappointment. People now expect St. Louis as the return for Cally and will use that as a measurement.
