Seriously though what's this guys upside? Anyone got a scouting report?

MSL has stated he wants a new contract once his current one is up after next season.

Which means what, exactly?

He'll be 40 and may decide he's had enough. Or maybe he'll decide he wants to play somewhere else after the Rangers buy out his BFF. Or maybe he'll never return to the type of production he had with tampa and we won't re-sign him.

Point is, counting on MSL for anything more than this postseason and next year is foolish.

I'm stating what he said. You're the one playing psychologist.

Elliotte Friedman knows his stuff. He wrote about the Rangers extending MSL. The Rangers gave up a lot for him.

At some point, the Lightning decided that if they got what they wanted from New York, they were making the trade. But why not take a playoff run now and wait until the summer? Here's my guess: Nikita Kucherov is 20. Ondrej Palat, 22. Radko Gudas, Tyler Johnson and Richard Panik, 23. Alex Killorn and Steven Stamkos 24. This is your franchise player and a young core learning its way. You can't have an unhappy St. Louis around as they learn what it takes to win. St. Louis is a good fit for the Rangers. They are thrilled to get him and probably will extend him. When his career is over, though, how will Tampa choose to honour him?

I agree with you on Hagelin Mikos, but if we are to add size to the lineup, who is coming out of the top 9?
If BR is bough out, we are looking at the following top 9 as a starting point:
Zucc
Nash
MSL
Step
Brass
Pouliot
Hagelin
JT Miller
Kreider

Someone has to come out to make room for that size. I don't want it to be Pouliot. Hagelin, if traded, would bring a good return. Step/Brass/Miller are centers, we aren't finding size at center that will work in AVs system and help us in a top 9 role. Its impossible. Zucc is a must resign. For me it comes down to Kreider or Hags, and I would rather keep Kreider. We are too small as is, and there is plenty of teams that plays more of a dump and chase style and Hags are just more important to them than to us.

I've also had it with the LD/RD crap, we need to get three right shooting Ds and three left shooting Ds. I like Diaz, I definitely think he can handle a top 4 role playing to a steady partner like Staal. He is new to our team and has been just fine. Give him some time and he will only get better. He has the little extra edge that Strålman has failed to provide this season. There is still some time, maybe Strålman will turn it around and start to add some offense. But I want more than he have provided so far...

I know where you are coming from. To me the Rangers badly need a legitimate top 6 center with size, but the skill set that Hagelin brings isn't easily replaceable. If it weren't for the chemistry with Brass and Poulie, alongside the coach getting more and more out of them, I'd say Brassard, who I would welcome as the 3rd line center on the depth chart, but feel the team would be a lottery candidate with him in the 2 slot.

You have to give to get, and Hags is probably the most tradeable asset under the umbrella, but the Rangers will need to hit a home run with whoever that fills a top 6 center with size role. The Rangers will have cap space after the Richards buyout, so most likely it will be a free agent or a trade in the mold of what Nashville made for Calle Jarnkork. I highly doubt the Rangers are able to trade for that piece given how little they have in assets for an upgrade. Chicago won the cup with Handzus as the 2nd line center last year. He served as the defensive conscience to two high skilled wingers.

On Defense, you have to line up the sticks. That last game to me marked Diaz's butt on the bench. I like him as a depth option, like his smarts, and his play on PP, but that's it. I look at the teams with the best goal differential and most have their sticks lined up.

Its too bad we can't send Moore to the minors for development... Kid has such potential, but I've been seeing it month after month how dumb the kid is. When Joe made that comment about Moore taking notes for ulfie, he mentioned how far off Moore's notes were from Ulfie's... Once he matures he'll be McDonough lite for sure.. But for now he's got quite a road to go down

You know after all the games Moore's played at the NHL level, best I've seen him were played under Torts on the 3rd pair where he just was better than the opposition's 3rd and 4th lines. Mentally this kid doesn't seem to learn, the best game I saw him play was against Pitts this year when he wanted to show up his buddy Phil Samuelson. Best I've seen him play, and I ask myself, why can't he do that every night?

One thing is that he strikes me as a visual learner, he played well after missing a few and taking those notes, before reverting to gaffs... that misplay on a 2-1 against Colorado is a peewee hockey drill... and a play where his nerves or anxiousness came to the forefront, just like it does when he has to take a hit to make a breakout pass.

The other thing is that he came into camp at 205, last year he was at 215 and handled him self very well I thought. I imagined he was going to come in at 225, bigger stronger and with his speed, a hell of a better force than the lithe player he was this year. Maybe he's more concerned about how he looks and fits into his clothes rather than be a better athlete. Lots of young guys in the city go carb free, and drink smoothies for breakfast to try and look leaner, and maybe Moore is a product of that. I don't know.

You are right about saying once he matures, because he needed to be there yesterday. But hey some guys are just slow developers. Its just who they are.

I think the team will welcome Miller as their 3c next year. I also think that they will try and improve, both at the 2c, and also on their blue line, in terms of offense.

I think Sather will make 2 big splashes, 1 via trade, and 1 via FA.

1) I think signing Paul Stastny is a reality that many on here should prepare for. Similar cap hit to BR's.
2) I think we will trade for Edler. Hagelin + Brassard for Edler would seem like something that could entice both teams.

I think he'll get back to where he was, the spotlight on him was a sharp one, and there is an adjustment. MSL needs some more time with Nash and Step, with Nash on the LW. The two games that was a line, MSL had 4 points. When you have one of the best playmakers in the game, you have to play him with two good shooters to maximize his skill set.

That bomb he set Nash up for was a thing of beauty, as the puck has to have a certain touch on it for it to get one timed like that. A feathery soft touch. Guy's been hustling out there too, and I think he'll snap out of his funk. Remember this guy may be 38, but he didn't start playing in the NHL until he was 25, he has less NHL miles on him than Richards.

Edler sucked this year, I know he was good with AV, but I wouldn't want to trade Hagelin and Brassard for him. Brassard has been nothing short of solid with us.

Edler is entering his prime. Torts really inhibits offensive blue liners.

Brassard really came into his own this year. But do you think he could really handle the 2c duties? He seems perfect on 3c duties.

But we have Miller, a younger and cheaper player, who can conceivably play the same role as him, if not better, who is nearly ready for NHL every-day duties.

Brassard becomes expendable, certainly for a guy we shouldn't be using on the 2nd line who is getting paid nearly 4 mm.

Hags is expendable with the emergence of Fast as a player who can adequately handle NHL duties.

Edler would be a steal for those two, IMO.

Gotta be careful with Edler, I think the safer play would be a Danny Boyle or Zidlickly. Won't hurt on term, and will fill that role just fine. Stastny I think will end up in STL. His hometown and a perfect fit for that team if he doesn't re-sign in COL.

Too much money for Paul, the guy isn't a 6.5M player and he will get a raise over his current deal. I'm a bigger fan of the sticks lining up, and don't want to trade assets for something that is available in free agency (top 4 offensive RHD). The center role, while Stastny fits, he wouldn't be coming in at a cheap price.

I'd look into trading some combination of Moore, Brassard, Dorsett for a legitimate top 6 center.

He was a -39 when guys on the same team playing the same minutes were +13 and +12. I know its a misleading stat, but that's called dogging it. Too much of an emo for my liking. $5M cap hit for a flawed defenseman with a soft mental game is not something to give up assets for.

I guess you prefer the bird in the bush. I'd move someone because of Miller only when we know that what AV said isn't actually true that he'll be a really good minor leaguer.

To be honest, I like that as well. But getting a 1c with the intention of making Brassard the centerpiece will be nearly impossible.

Yeah its highly unlikely, whatever the scenario is, it will have to be a guy that has upside and can play a top 6 center role. My picks for current NHLers that fit the mold are Bryan Little, and Craig Smith (who played center in Wisconsin), or a prospect like Spooner (who Boston isn't trading).

Big skilled centers with top line potential are only found at the top of the draft boards these days.

Although I would definitely welcome Brother Eric.

At that cap hit? I wouldn't.
