Nobody is labeling them as contenders. But you have to respect the fact that they have a plan in place and are sticking to it. What is it - 10 total 1st and 2nd round picks this and next draft? And that number will grow as they move Moulson+Stewart.

If you're going to rebuild, that's how you do it.

They've set it up well, but still need to make the picks.

Heck, they can have top picks 3 years in a row and still not field a winner. We all know about Edmonton.

Just saying there is more than one way to build, and no sure way of doing it.

No one is sure Sather has ANY plan whatsoever.

That's the basis of the argument.

They CLEARLY have a plan.

Exactly.

I don't see a 1C, 1W or 1D, 1G.

Uhh, they already have #1C prospects and #1D prospects, in fact, they have a couple.

Not saying they'll be successful, but they for sure have some good pieces already. In fact, they have some amazing prospects.

Of course, draft picks no matter how many is no guarentee.

But the common denominator of the elite teams in the league is young, home grown, elite talent. And drafting is the only way to get that.

It doesn't always work. But it has a better shot than whatever cluster ****ed approach the Rangers have taken over the last 15 years.

Spezza interests me. He's a bit on the older side, but it could work. Would likely have to move one of Brassard or Stepan to get him, though. Wouldn't move Miller.

Spezza will be another Richards, rather throw a massive package with Stepan, prospects and picks for a high end, 1C prospect.

It would be counter-productive to trade Stepan for Spezza. That being said, Brassard I would be open to.

Stepan
Kristo
Allen
1st.

See if that can get you a 1C prospect. If not, add.

Random question: who was the one that pushed for McDonagh to be included in the deal and who was it that reported it? I remember that one guy said that it was someone's idea to include McDonagh, but it wasn't Sather's.

Those 4 things for a prospect?

That's ridiculously stupid

6 for 6 is still way to much for Cally in my mind. I don't have than big an issue with money as with the length. There is just no way he can live up value wise to that contract with his play style. I could see giving him $6 Mill for 4 years, and I don't even think that would be full value.

I fear we will end up with some kind of a Drury situation if we resign him for that many years.

Dagoon wouldn't be happy until every player on this team is a goon. That's why his opinions are sometimes hard to take seriously. This team getting tougher doesn't mean they have to go for a useless scrub that can throw punches.

The Rangers are the biggest bunch of sissies on the Eastern conf. They lose to bigger teams because they are out hit and out muscled. I can care less if you like my opinion I have forgotten more about this game then you will ever know. I talk to players and coaches daily ask them about how or what the team is missing most say size and snarl

I wouldn't have your hopes high on getting Spezza. Every year there is Spezza trade rumours and nothing happens. If he gets traded it won't be until next season. Ottawa will give him a chance to bounce back next season. He's also only making 4 million in his final year and for a budget team they need every part of that.

Not if that prospect is Girgensons or Barkov or something. It's not meant for a guy in the ECHL, it's meant for a rookie or someone who has potential to be that game-breaking center we lack.

What's stupid is to continue to try and force Stepan to be something he's not. Either be bold and make a move for a young, #1C or find a way to move up in the draft and pick one.

Overpaid signings like Stastny and trades for 32 year olds like Spezza will continue to keep this team where we have been for the past decade. I'd rather see a shocking, ballsy trade like that, then the same old story that we've been spoon thread through a straw since Sather took over.

OMG we got Bobby Holik, Eric Lindros, Theo Fleury, Wade Redden, Scott Gomez, Brad Richards, Chris Drury

The layman fans love this stuff, real fans know they're mistakes. I don't need more of this, I need to see something different. If that means taking a gamble, do it.

I often tell people what they want to hear in an effort to get rid of them

This might be my imagination but didn't the guy that ran the draft for the Oilers under Sather live AND work from Mexico City?

Somebody on this board mentioned that about 10 years ago, and posted an article about it. I'm probably wrong but the article was from The Hockey News..

i dont want spezza, guy is rapidly declining, always injured too, not worth it

i would rather give the ****ing all star heatley another chance, then go after spezza

Go back and look at the threads for the Gomez and Drury signings. Not too many fans hated the deals. Look at the Redden signing thread. Same thing....

We had posters blame Dan Girardi for Wade Redden terrible play....Not naming any names....

Ha, whether true or not, I love the thought of the chief scout residing in such a hockey hotbed.

At what point do you start forgetting about toffnuss?

What players and coaches? The ones from your beer league?

It's absolutely hilarious that this Callahan situation is coming down to the wire. Something that should have been done months ago.

I think we had this discussion a few weeks ago. It is just the nature of negotiations.
