Well, if you included his contract demands, I doubt anyone would be surprised.

What else would you have expected though in terms of Callahan's demands? I mean he's seen Drury, Redden and co. stink it up. Were you expecting an honesty discount?

Off Sides - I would be thrilled with a 1st. I am not feeling it though. I do appreciate your creativity in your response.
I am not so sure either. Seems like the Blues made their move, I'd guess San Jose or LA might be interested in Callahan as a rental but I'm not sure their GMs play that rental game using high quality assets.

So if it

Sign Callahan to 6x6
Or
Trade him for less than a 1st plus
Or
Keep him for their own push/playoffs

It's a tough choice, but I am leaning against the signing even in that scenario.

We really don't have the room to add a forward. At least not without shipping one the other way.

Unless its a major upgrade, I don't really see the need of replacing Pouliot on the 3rd line. Nash/Zucc/Cally on the right. 3 clear top 3 centers.

...and this was 20 years ago.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=706733&cmpid=nhl-fb

Smith finally got his man. Sather got Todd Marchant, a speedy center who wound up playing more than 1,100 NHL games, although he wasn't the player Sather thought he was getting.

"This is a funny story: I'd been bugging Glen all year, and at the deadline he finally said, 'Give me [Eric] Cairns,'" Smith said. "I said I couldn't do that because at the time we thought he was going to be a pretty good player, a big defenseman, which he ended up being with the Islanders. I said I'll give you Todd Marchant; he played for the U.S. National Team. He's got speed, he's got this, he's got that. So he calls me back and says he'll do it for Marchant.

"So we trade Marchant, we get MacTavish, and we go forward.

I get a call from Sather, and he says to me, 'Smitty, you [bleeped] me on this deal. This guy's supposed to be 6-foot-1. He's 5-foot-8. I said, 'What are you talking about? I never said that? Where did you see that?' He said, 'Right in the [media] guide. I said, 'You're looking at the wrong Marchant. That's his brother.' He had a brother who'd been playing and [Sather] was reading all this stuff about the brother. As it turned out, Todd Marchant was a great pickup, but it was hilarious because he thought he was getting a 6-foot-1 guy and he got a 5-foot-8 guy."

Am I the only one that wishes that I were a Sabres fan now? At least they have a plan that makes sense.

Which includes all that dysfunction in their front office? No thanks. They could always turn into Edmonton, though, they do have at least a few good looking defensemen prospects, you never know. Plus, is Enroth ready to be a full-time starter (will he ever be one?)

Plans are nice, in theory. But sign me up as not wanting to be 30th in the NHL right now :)

Well, if you included his contract demands, I doubt anyone would be surprised.

Exactly. The reason Callahan has always been loved has been because he's a modest, lunch pail player who went out, put his hard hat on and gave it 100% despite never having been a marquee player or had high expectations. Now he wants to get paid like a marquee player, but he still isn't one, and he's actually looking like he's starting to slow down a bit, so the hard noses style that made him so alluring isn't even effective anymore. If you'd told us Callahan would ask for 6-7M I don't think anyone would have been surprised we'd want him gone.

I maintain that Redden for 6/39 is better than Callahan at 6/36. Call me crazy, but I do. At least Redden went to Hartford and helped out the kids #PapaReds :dunno: As you can surely tell now, I am VEHEMENTLY against giving Callahan 6 years.

Callahan will surely have a nice fat NMC added in so no hartford for him. Also, no buyout coming to save our butts.

No thanks to Moulson or Spezza. Moulson is overrated and will be overpaid, Spezza will be on the decline, if he isn't already.

We need a young #1, not another Brad Richards.

AGain, rather offer a large package and try to pry away a potential #1C then trade for an old, established one, ala Spezza.

I'm sure Grigorenko can be had from Buffalo.

Unless Spezza was being given to us for a song, I'd pass on him.

horrendous defensively. more of an injury risk than Callahan at this point.

Had his push back to elite level production 2 years ago, but for 2 years before and this season after, he's back to being a fading player.

Sather missed the boat on Redden. He missed the boat on Richards. He really can't be that dumb. blind and stupid....can he?

Yea, not happening, Sather will definitely put a NTC or NMC clause in his new deal

Not trade Callahan for Moulson.

Sign Callahan.

Trade for Moulson

meaning

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Moulson - Richards - Callahan
Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccs
Hagelin - Moore - Carcillo

I'd also like to thank Sather for making the Rangers faithful miserable and for making us hate one of the most beloved guys in our history in Ryan Callahan. Yes, Callahan is culpable, but not as much as Sather. It's like the John Cena and McMahon thing. Yes, Cena is horrible and doesn't deserve to be a main-eventer, but Vince indulges and trots him out there week-after-week.

You guys think if I went to Sather and gave him my contract demands, he'd negotiate with me?

Callahan is just trying to squeeze as much money as he can. I love Cally, but he's not worth what he's going to get and it looks like we're going to give it to him. In the USA today piece his agent made it clear that Cally wants to stay, he said there are friendships as loyalties. So Cally wants to be here and also wants to milk as much money as possible.

I they're going to sign him to this huge contract he can't be a third liner anymore. Some sort of shakeup needs to happen. Send Nash or Zucc to LW (they both can play both sides). Hagelin has been a major disappointment, bump him down to the third line.

It also may be time to try Richards with Nash again. Richards has been outperforming Stepan all season. I don't care about age or if he's getting bought out or w.e. It's time to switch them.

Maybe something like:

Kreider-Richards-Nash
Zucc-Stepan-Cally

Or

Zucc-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Cally

Actually I think that second line could work.

Am I the only one that wishes that I were a Sabres fan now? At least they have a plan that makes sense.

They're doing it right. Edmonton should watch how a proper rebuild is done.

This is ****ing hilarious.

Nice find!

Sather missed the boat on Redden. He missed the boat on Richards. He really can't be that dumb. blind and stupid....can he?

Confirmed with Link:

Spezza interests me. He's a bit on the older side, but it could work. Would likely have to move one of Brassard or Stepan to get him, though. Wouldn't move Miller.

I'd love Spezza on this team, we want a legit #1C right? AND, he can run the PP next year when Richards is bought out.

Cally + Brassard + 3rd should be enough.

2014-2015 Rangers
Kreider - Spezza - Nash
Hagelin - Stepan - Zucc
Pouliot - Miller - UFA
Carcillo - Moore - Boyle

Lets wait to see how the Sabres use those draft picks before we pencil them in as 2018 cup contenders.

Nobody is labeling them as contenders. But you have to respect the fact that they have a plan in place and are sticking to it. What is it - 10 total 1st and 2nd round picks this and next draft? And that number will grow as they move Moulson+Stewart.

If you're going to rebuild, that's how you do it.

Oh and happy birthday, Brian Leetch!

It was also ten years ago Sather traded him and basically only got Michael Sauer in return...which didn't last as long as we all wanted to.
