I think he just meant that every team wants to maximize its return. His example was just a hyperbole of that point. (Please correct me if I'm mistaken.)

I understand that, but we are talking about trading Cally. Van is talking about trading Kesler. What I posted is therefore relevant to the conversation. If he doesn't agree, he is free to ignore my post.

Half the people on this board thought we were getting MSL for Cally straight up, but suggesting that I would trade Cally for Kesler straight up is going too far I guess.

Wishful thinking. We will be watching him eat cap space for 6 more years

Clearly you haven't noticed my long, drawn out, and redundant weekly arguments with BleedRangerBlue and BrooklynRangersFan.

I'm a dreamer. Proud of it. Optimist at heart. Hoping for the best. I'll start complaining when something bad actually happens. Helps me get through the day in a much happier manner.

We have to be able to let go........it's difficult and probably NO player added can do the things that Cally does, but there are probably much better ways of spending/tying up years than this. Too expensive and we NEED goal scorers. Is Cally that? Will he ever get us 30/75? Doubt it.

Another point.........that I've said before........this organization needs to rid themselves of the persona of being big spenders and the players can always get what they want based on popularity.

When asked, the players didn't want to see Callahan traded. They also said they need to get pucks in behind the defensemen and do the little things to win.

Honestly, I doubt doubt they don't want to see Callahan traded. I wouldn't expect players to care about/recognize the long-term impact it would have on the Rangers.

From Friedman's 30 Thoughts:

23. Now that the Rangers and Ryan Callahan are together on a six-year term and within $500,000 per season on salary, you have to think there's enough common ground to get things done. When Edmonton originally traded Ryan Smyth, the two sides could not bridge a $100,000 difference and both later regretted it.

24. That said, a couple of teams indicated they knew Dan Girardi's extension was getting done when his name suddenly disappeared from the Rangers' lips. Callahan's name was still out there a day ago, though things change quickly at this time of year.

Everyone seems to be a day or two behind when it comes to information about the Rangers plans except for Brooks and Lavoie.

Wheres Gainey when you really need him?Would have given us a great package for Cally :(

Moulson as a UFA? Callahan 6x6? I get angrier and angrier everytime I read Ranger news lately.

AV's last sentiment on Callahan is interesting:

"I would take him as my captain any day of the week"...

Build up that value AV, BUILD. IT. UP.

lmao

On a semi serious note - to further beat this dead horse. Can Sather point to other players and demonstrate that there are much more talented players (obviously chose words wisely) making less. Tavares signed that extension knowing he'd be conceding UFA years.

For forwards, sure. This is regarding next years cap hits. Less or equal to Cally's 6 mill

Eberle - 6
J. Staal - 6
Matt Duchene - 6
Taylor Hall - 6
Lucic - 6
Pavelski - 6
RNH - 6
Couture - 6
Sharp - 5.9
STeen - 5.8
M. Richards - 5.7
Seguin - 5.7
Skinner - 5.7
MSL - 5.6
Landeskog - 5.5
Ribeiro - 5.5
Tavares - 5.5
Elias - 5.5

I'll stop there, but that's only out of the top 50 cap hits in the league.

Seeing Eberle, Hall, and RNH on there gives me all the motivation I need to keep on believing I can be an NHL GM one day

Bridge contracts, people. BRIDGE CONTRACTS.

If we are going to pay Callahan $6-7 M a year, why not wait until the summer and sign Vanek for $7.5-8 M, a known goal scorer.

Does any1 have even the faintest clue what kinds of offers are on the table for Callahan? Aside from Stewart awhile back I've heard nothing. Also understanding that Callahan isn't worth a 6x6.5 contract or even a 6x6 contract and joking about letting him go does not equal having zero gratitude whatsoever. And Sere was right when he said they are doing this for the money way more than they are for the jersey/logo so they really DON'T deserve too much gratitude. They definitely don't deserve the kind of gratitude that would engender blind fan loyalty on a very high risk contract with little to no upside other than bs MSG prestige

Those contracts all ate up years of UFA though. Hall ate 3 years.

There all good players. Edmonton just doesn't have the D. These guys are good..and worth those cap hits, especially if they continue to grow.
