Excuse me, but that's an incredibly inaccurate portrayal of what I said. I never said anyone needed to be grateful. There's a big difference between not being grateful and actively ******** on someone. Personally, as a Ranger fan (and purely as a Ranger fan), I think the things people have been posting about Callahan here are disgusting. I can't think of a single player over the last 20 years that has put on a Ranger jersey that deserves that kind of attitude less.

Look, I've said horrendous things about plenty of players. I still really, really hate Scott Gomez (as a hockey fan, not as a person). I can't stand the way he, and some other players, play hockey. But I just can't understand how any contract negotiation that Ryan Callahan is a part of is grounds to **** all over him. He's been everything for this team that the average fan wants. He's gone above and beyond expectations and probably ability for this team. I just think it sucks, and IMO it doesn't say much about the fanbase. I can't for the life of me figure out how a contract negotiation between a player like this and a team like this could see so many people turn on the player. **** this team, I hope Callahan takes them for every penny he can. If anyone deserves to be **** on, its James Dolan and Glen Sather.

I'm sure some people are ******** on Callahan unfairly, but most of us aren't. You're extremely defensive of him, as if you know him personally and feel we owe him somehow. I get being a fan, but don't confuse other fans who are adamant about the fact that they don't want Callahan back at this price with people "******** on him". Like I said, I'm sure there are some people doing that, but most of us aren't. Just because we don't want Callahan at this price doesn't make us bad fans or mean we're saying awful things about your favorite player. You did imply that gratitude was owed, from how I read the exchange, and I don't really agree with that. We're certainly not obligated to want Ryan Callahan back.

I don't necessarily think that saying "I'd laugh in his face" was ******** on Callahan, but I get where the mindset in that sense comes from.

Callahan is/was a great Ranger. I just don't see it the same way as you in the sense that I should be happy he remains a Ranger if we lock him up to that contract. And I will always lay the blame at Sather if that does happen. Just like I don't blame Wade Redden for accepting the deal he did.

And FWIW, I think the bolded is more ridiculous than anything I've ever read in my life, and I hope it was hyperbole.

FLA players saying their goodbyes to Mike Weaver, who apparently has been traded to MTL.

domino's starting to fall?

Wanna know what sucks for you guys, this kesler war has basically crushed the callahan war, and made everybody go after kesler instead.

That being said, Would y ou guys do the stephan + miller + 1st for kesler deal?

Not sure I see it that way. The teams vying for Kesler are not the ones the Rangers would have traded Callahan to.

On the offer: **** no.

Rofl no. Miller's ceiling could be Kesler despite the odds being slim. Either way Stepan and Miller should both be good 2Cs in this league.

I could care less what Callahan has done this year or in years past.

He's been paid very well for that.

I am not willing to pay him one dime of future earnings for anything he has done in the past.

So, yeah, call me un grateful. He's been well compensated for what he's done in the past. No need to continue to pay him going forward for the player he WAS.

That **** needs to stop.

Thats a solid position.

Unfortunately, for a ton of the fanbase, it does not apply to players who have played elsewhere in the league.

But see... this is where, in a cap league, it's not just **** on Sather/Dolan, otherwise every fan would, in all likelihood, agree with you.

It's screwing the "team" for 6 years. He's not worth the $ he's asking and fans don't like it. I was a huge Cally fan. I want him traded due to his demands. I'm not a fan of the contract Hank asked for and got either, but he's wayyyyyy more valuable than Cally.

In both cases my admiration for a player took a hit.

Maybe I'm alone on it. Maybe I'm not.

I just think people feel like the more they **** on him the less likely it is Sather will resign him. Almost a "come on Sather the fan base thinks he is awful how can you resign him" kinda thing. I dont think anyone here doesnt appreciate what Cally has given to this franchise over the past few years. I appreciate the hell out of him. But, going forward I dont think he is good for this team. He is a mediocore player, who brings some energy. You dont win championships with mediocore talent. And all that "effort, energy & intangibles" clearly hasnt won us anything.

No.

I like Kesler, but he's not worth (imho) Stepan and Miller

He's a slight upgrade to Stepan. Not a Miller sized upgrade, maybe a Kristo sized upgrade.

I'd trade Stepan for Crosby, but I think Pittsburgh would want more. Not really sure why I posted this. Just thought you all should know I'd be down for something completely lopsided in our favor, as if any of you wouldn't be.

I would hate if we traded Stepan for Crosby straight up and would be worse if we added more. I understand that Crosby has some of the greatest skill in the league and is arguably the best player, but his injury history is a huge risk to take on.

We need to keep Stepan because if we don't, we would need another number 1/number 2 center on our team next year. Stepan and Brass should be kept and we should just dump Richards next year and trade Cally for a first line center either now or in the post season. In terms of trading, outside of Callahan, almost every player is out of the question.

Callahan needs to be traded for a number 1 center, not Stepan. We need a player like Stepan especially because of the type of chemistry he has with the team.

Yeah, I wonder sometimes how it is as GM to know someone personally and not let your emotions get in the way of being truly objective. Ryan is a great guy (so i hear), one of the faces of the franchise, has demonstrated a high level of sacrifice for the organization and im sure they want to reward him for that. He sells jerseys (and tickets) and has the kind of character you want to build a team around, regardless of his on ice limitations. What is that really worth?

Fans put all the emphasis on winning while the management has to take everything into consideration. Marketing, ticket sales, merchandise, branding... Its a different perspective, completely. So its not as simple as its a "bad deal" to them. Which is what freaks me out about this entire thing.

The Canadian dollar began the season at 96 cents. It was 94 when the Rogers deal was announced. Its been the 89-90 cents range for the last few weeks. The famous economist Dr. Doom Roubini feels the CDN should be 10% lower than 90 cents. The NHL sees a major % of the revenue come from Canada. Ticket revenue. Those 7 teams generate a ton of revenue. Even if the NHL protected themselves with the Rogers deal, they will feel the pinch of the CDN in other revenue streams with the exchange rate being 90 cents or lower in the future.

Who cares about the NTC/NMC? On a 36+ million contract for Callahan, it's redundant.

Absolutely redundant, and who would want that contract once he's signed with us in any possible future trade? Cut the ties and move on already. X amount of teams want him as a rental. Get best possible. Now, looking back......Stewart and whatever else wasn't such a bad deal to be made. If this was done already.......other moves may have been clearer to see.

P.S. I love everything that Cally has done for us.......but is in the past.......successful teams USE these types of players for their BEST years, then move them along for the FUTURE.

Wat?

Anyone not a closet Pens fan who doesn't trade Stepan for Crosby is high.

By the way, not that it really matters in the business that sports has become, but LaGreca said yesterday that basically every single player in the locker room said they wanted Callahan to stay. Now, and LaGreca freely admitted it, what else do you expect them to say? But he noted that it sure seemed genuine from the feeling that he got, and that he wondered what the impact on the locker room would be if Callahan were to be moved.
