Dude wants a no move clause ON TOP of 6/$6.3? If I was Sather I'd laugh in his face and ship him away in a heartbeat.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I hope they can't come to an agreement and he is traded. A 45-point winger for $6/6.25 mill a season? And a NMC on top of it? It sets a very dangerous precedent for our other players. And people complain that agents try to drain us for all their client's worth with contracts, it's because deals like these that prove that we can be had.

Didn't mean to imply that I buy it. Just saying it would be reminiscent of the dark ages. Mark me down as a guy who has very little interest in Kesler.

Even in the dark ages Sather didn't make a deal like that. He lost out on Jagr in 2001 because he wouldn't give up much. He got him 3 years later for Anson Carter and the Caps paying 40% of the contract. Even with Lindros,he didn't like Brendl. He traded a #1 for Bure but had Florida take back Ulanov.

“@stevezipay: Hearing it's not only $$$ that's separating NYR and Callahan, but no-trade/no-move issue. Of course, that's bargaining chip for both sidesâ€

Give him the Girardi special. NMC 1st 3 years, Limited NTC the last 3.

6 years $6.1M. Final offer and be done with it.

Barnett won't have another client with the Rangers after this negotiation. Stupid of him to drag the process on like this. Great for the player, but bad for his agency.

Fully expecting Octagon and Allen Walsh to go full blitz with Brassard this off-season, although Walshy isn't going to have a lot of ammo to work with. Octagon is known for their hardline tactics, but they are big.

Barnett, while experienced, isn't a Newport or Octagon. He's screwing himself of future commissions by going at it like this.

We need youth! We need center prospects!

What's that, an older center from another team is available? AND he's clearly already peaked?

Take our young center prospect!

If Miller moves for Kesler, I'm just going to lose it.

If thats the compromise: Trade him. Trade him for a used puck bag for all I care.

If you want to blame anyone for this, blame Sather. He could have prevented this whole situation with the last contract he gave Callahan.

I like the kid, and I love his game.

If I could package Brassard and Miller for Kesler, I'd be pretty happy

Really? Brass is arguably playing better than he has at any other point, and Miller is just about to make the jump and start to show what kind of NHL player he'll be. Kesler doesn't interest me much at all. If NYR could somehow add him to the current center group, that's enticing. If he's replacing someone else, especially two other centers, that's a step backward IMO>

I'm not even sure why there's any negotiating going on at this point. This should be a move the organization sees as clear as its fan base. Ridiculous if there ends up being some deal that gets done..

Jesus, just sign the 6.2 for 6 with a limited NTC already.

for an injury prone 40 point scorer?

Yeah seems rational. NOOOOOOO

You're gonna give him $1.5mm AAV MORE than McDonagh? Think about that for a second.

More obstacles on the Callahan front is a good thing IMO.

That Kesler blurb is so obviously put out by VC it's ridiculous to even comment on it.
Doubtful NYR do even Step straight up for Kesler. That's a major renovation at this stage of the season. And Ive been very frustrated by Step at different times in his career. I would imagine Rangers have been too.

The real question to my mind isn't this or that particular deal, with so much in the air right now.
it's what is the Rangers intent? Are they going for it? Really really going for it?

If so, then the hell with it; load up and take your very best shot. It's difficult to catch lightning in a bottle like that, as Pittsburgh showed last year. Same time, Rangers have major deficiencies. I can't see them winning until they're addressed.
MSL & Big Buff could go a long way towards providing more finish, some added size, a more dangerous PP. Could. There are problems involved with each, as one involves re-organizing the defense which at worst is in balance right now. If a TB move involves someone other than Callahan, it creates a hole. Yzerman is not dealing St Louis for futures. Ok, the hole can be plugged. But how much turnover is too much?

I think I'll ride out the rest of this deadline in the peace & quiet.
They've really made a mess of it these last few years.
They're hockey trades, for goodness sakes.

I wonder if Callahan laughed in Tortorella's face when Tortorella asked him to put his body on the line every single night and carry the ***** of the overpaid garbage mailing it in every night that Sather lightened Dolan's deep coffers for. Coffers that probably were quickly replenished by all the Callahan jerseys that were sold and all of the playoff revenue that Callahan played a major role in generating.

Or did he just go out and do every single thing and more that his coach, and by extension, the team, ever asked him to do?

Yeah, **** that guy.

Normally I'm with ya, I really am. The NMC set me over the top though. I have no qualms with Callahan asking for $6.3 million because he will certainly get that on the open market. But with the addition of the NMC, if Sather signs him to that deal, will hamstring the Rangers for years to come.

So, my thoughts. Callahan is wrong for asking for a full NMC. Sather is wrong for ever putting 6x$6 on the table from the Rangers. If Callahan signs any deal with the Rangers for more than 5 years at $5.5 million which has a 100% chance of happening if Callahan does sign with the Rangers, this is on Sather's shoulders, and Sather's alone.

I appreciate everything Callahan has done for the Rangers, but I'm ready to part ways with him for the betterment of the organization and the product on the ice. Don't try to demonize me by pointing out all that Callahan has done during his time here, and make me seem ungrateful.
