Wait, wait, wait - we can get flip Carl Hagelin, Danny Kristo (a prospect who becomes an UFA if he doesn't hit the minimum number of NHL games by next summer) and a 2nd... for Marty St. Louis PLUS a prospect?

I am strongly against bringing in guys that old until such time as we have a proper core in place, but jeez... That would be hard to pass up, even for me.

There's no confirmation on it..so don't get your hopes up

Cally: alright fine 6x6

Sather: well since you went down to my demands already you can do it again

Cally: da ***** is this

Funny as it sounds, I would be willing to streak through MSG, face arrest and all, for it to come true. I do not want Ryan Callahan on this team anymore unless he comes down another .8M, minimum.

Except the top scorer in the NHL last year. Also a top the MVP voting one season... as well as another year where he was THE top scorer.

I get that people jump at reading a statement... but jeez I have to exercise some constraint at a response like that.

He'd also be the top scorer on this team by a wide margin right now.

I think you missed the point. I want MSL as much as the next guy, but my "throwing it out there" was about him never being a top 5 prospect anywhere, so you never know. I'm very sorry I offended you. Can we still want MSL together?

can you name the spect we could also get back?

I'd love to get a speedy energy player coming back. JT Brown or Joel Vermin. Not asking for a ton of upside, just a good athlete that can skate and provide energy on a cheap sub-million dollar contract.

Brown might be off limits, plays a Callahan type game except he hasn't shown offensive upside in the pros, but has in college.

Joel Vermin is a Swiss player that can absolutely fly. Brown can play in the NHL now, Vermin might be a year or two away.

Nash will still score 30 goals in a full season even if he has 0 assists.. he's playing with a 2nd liner and an invisible center, but its his fault, they can't finish.. how many times in the last 2 games did Nash give Kreider a gimme and he blew it?

and Callahan doesn't hit anymore, he hasn't stood up for his teammates during the game, he doesn't create any energy, and he doesn't score, WTF does he do

Callahan missed 17 games, he still leads the team in hits. First you say you don't want him because he gets hurt too much, now he isn't standing up for his teammates enough? Such utter nonsense. He creates plenty of energy, he is still physical, and he still plays well away from the puck.

As for the MSL scenario, I love Hagelin, I really do. He hasn't had a great season, but he is a very smart player and such a great skater. But I think if the price is him and Kristo and a 1st or 2nd for MSL . . . I mean, I don't like the idea of giving up any of those assets, but MSL will be continue to be an elite player for at least 3 years. Lundqvist will be 35 by then (man, that is scary).

Hopefully, they just hammer out this 6x6 deal for Callahan and we get something resembling the following:

Nash-Stepan-MSL
Kreider-Richards-Callahan
Pouliot-Brassard-Zucc

His name is Vermin? :D

Sometimes, I think Sting is the only one who understands.

See that's the issue with moving the LW over the RW. You play Nash in his offside.

I see your line up and I raise you
Zucc kesler Nash
Kreider Richards MSL
Pouliot brassard miller

Hagelin 2nd kristo for MSL
Stepan 1st fast/lindberg
Callahan for 1st prospect
We become better right away and still have our first plus miller and lindberg/fast +.

Trading Hagelin would be a mistake. Trading Stepan would be an even bigger mistake. I can't believe that people are advocating a trade for Kesler yet want Callahan shipped out on the first plane out of town. That reeks of hypocrisy.

I'm only ok trading for St. Louis if he can be had for a guy like Brassard and a prospect/pick that's not a bluechipper or our first rounder. Trading for MSL and retaining Callahan means this team is going for it.

MSL-Richards-Callahan
Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Miller-Zucc
Carcillo-Moore-Boyle

is very solid up and down.

If we're trading Hagelin, Kristo, and a pick for St. Louis, St. Louis is 38. He'll be 39 in training camp. Yeah, he can add a lot, but I think we're much farther from the cup than just St. Louis. Plus we're losing Hags who's always been good on the forecheck. And, again, we're doing the old "all-in for vets." It hasn't worked. I don't think it will work. Signing Cally, keeping Ritchie, acquiring MSL...I think we're setting ourselves up for disappointment and an early exit. We all saw the Boston game. St. Louis is not going to be the panacea that makes everything better and gets us to the cup.

The best year we had was when we buckled down, got our own guys going, and complemented them with talent. Of course, a lot of guys got hot at the right time.

Definitely agreed. I see you're a newish poster. Welcome to the boards... been awhile since we had someone new making sense, hahah

For a rental, yes.

But there are a lot of people asking themselves if the roster we have right now is good enough to win. The thing is, even if we lock-up the players we have, we still have a lot of mobility.

All type of players are always moved. Some more rarely than others, but every now and then a Kovalchuk or Joe T in their prime, a Chris Chelios or Paul Coffey or Scott Niedermayer or Chris Pronger, a Jordan Staal or Shattenkirk, or you know -- any -- other type is traded. I don't think our roster is as flawed as some others, but our center position is a bit weak (but we definitely compensate a bit for that with Brass as our 3rd C) and we definitely need more offense from the blueline.

But guys like Step, Hags, Kreids as well as Staal and co. could of course be made available in the "right trade". We have depth at some positions and flaws at other. In straight up hockey trades, there are few guys on our team that I don't think should be made available.

Callahan seemed to start coming down from his outrageous demands when Stewart was traded to BUF. Could he have gotten word that they won't be offering a contract after all with the arrival of Stewart?

I see what you're saying Ola, but we have literally zero reason to trade guys like Hagelin and Stepan unless it's for an upgrade. Hagelin is one of our best forecheckers and cyclers in the offensive zone, very important in AV's game plan. We need more puckhounds to maintain possession.

Stepan is having his worst statistical season since he was a rookie. Holding out really hurt him. He'll be back. You don't trade him when his value is at an all time low.

There is no perfect team. As the Boston game showed us, we can use a bit more size. A big guy to play the bottom six that can skate well would be huge to complement Miller on the third line.

Signing Stastny wouldn't be a risky move? Dropping 50m~ And overpaying for players has worked wonders for us in the past.

Stastny is an upgrade at center over Stepan, Brassard and the puke he would be replacing in Richards.

Would improve our puck possession game, overall team speed and is better defensively than both Richards and Brassard and a slight notch behind Stepan in that regards.

I think Stastny would do well in the system we play. Do I expect him to get back to his 70+ point seasons? prolly not, but I can see him duplicating what we were getting from Richards but being better at every other aspect of the game while being 6 years younger.

People said Richards would continue to play elite too...Kristo is the right prospect to let go but I don't know about letting hagelin go. Raher let another 2nd and a 1st go. We can only hope our late 1st/2nd becomes hagelin. And seriously ******* yourself sather why is callahan even still here. It's ridiculous. Can't even get a good C prospect or RD?
