HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
The thing with that is that Danault was a rookie when we traded for him and the expectation for him was similar to Beck/Kapanen now. That of a 3C/4C.

You aren’t getting Anton Lundell for Flash and Des Louise.
Yeah ! It was an absolute licorne. I remember as I was super happy to be sellers, just to realize that Danautl was a freaking upgrade on both of them.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 2C position remains unfilled by starting of next season. Not a lot of good options in the UFA market, and not obvious which teams currently not rebuilding will enter a rebuild this summer. Even so, rebuilding teams rarely part with mid-20s centers given how difficult they are to find. If you look around the league every year there are good teams starting without good 2C, Winnipeg and Colorado immediately come to mind as good teams who've started multiple seasons in recent years without a 2C only to try and acquire one by trade as a rental or short term solution.

Not a lot of options for centers pacing for 50+ points (2C) on teams in fading from playoff contention. (Excluding cornerstone players and prospects… Sid, RThomas, Beniers, etc)

Zacha, Schenn, O’Reilly, Nelson, Horvat, Malkin

Maybe they need to buy the dip - Cozens, Barzal, Zegras ?

If we're trading for a young, cost controlled 2nd line C it is hard to imagine the package going the other way would not include Hage or Beck.
I'm ok with given up Beck, Kapanen is better player anyways. No way I give up Hage in a deal for Zegras though.

Barzal would cost a fortune, don't like Cozens but would take a chance on Zegras if the price was right

Would you guys give Beck and 1st for Cozens?
Beck has the value of a mid to late first. Cozens is a slightly disappointing 7th OA in his D+6 already. I would have rated him recently at around a 10th OA on the ice but his contract is onerous, and he is trending downwards the past two years.

If we are going to give a mid-first, I would add a different young player, and not Beck who is needed to replace Dvorak. Perhaps Engstrom or Roy.

I agree I think he could flourish in Montreal the question is what do you need to give up to get him?

I assume all trades start with Logan Mailloux.
Would a 2nd rounder, Alex Newhook and Mailloux be enough to get Zegras?

Montreal also needs a winger to round out that 2nd line ??? Zegras Laine
Pretty sure a 1st would have to be involved. Maybe Mesar can be used as another prospect going the other way. I would be ok dealing Calgary's pick to be honest cause we have Pittsburgh's 2nd rounder that will end up being a high 2nd anyway.

Hard to believe 1st + scrap is getting us Cozens. Any team would beat that.

I’ll do Beck + mid/late first. Chance are really low that first do anything in the NhL. I like Beck, but would surprise if he became more than a 40pts player which is what Cozens seems to be at his worst right now.

Buffalo is a shit show. Just look at what some of their former top prospects did with other teams. I’m not saying Cozens will explode here for sure but I’m willing to take a chance.

Concenssus is we don’t want to give Demidov/Hage/Fowler, and it’s ok. On the other hand we can’t expect to get a top young players in return for subpar elements.

IMO the best strategy is to sign a vet for the 2C role this summer. Keep our prospect and draft two more quality ones in june.

I would in a heartbeat.

Cozens has shown 30 goal and near 70 point upside, has shown steady progression in the faceoff dot and his physicality has been ramping up exponentially over the last few seasons.
Personally think Beck is a logical piece to give in a package for a top 6 center. Not Hage. So you give a good young center and a mid 1st for actual guy that fits our need and window.

Tough call eh................I wonder how much Suzuki is in on a decision that's about to be made??
We all know, the players feel they have earned some help at the deadline.

This is the issue with Dylan Cozens - $7,100,000 Cap Hit per season. Too big a risk
