HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Any young established 2C out there that we could realistically trade for is going to have a risk in some regard. But if prime Cozens is a ~60 point, physical center that's good at faceoffs then I'd have no problem paying 7 million for that with the cap set to sky rocket.
I'm still not convinced that 2 years ago wasn't a fluke or career year for that guy. His stats have fallen off in each of the next two following years. Especially in the plus / minus category

Or maybe 2 1rst and one of Mailloux, Ghule, Xhekaj, Reinbacher, Hage and Beck. Maybe Dach if we are lucky. I think 90% Hage and Rein are out of tradable material for Hughes.

Ghule and Reinbacher are off the table for me. No point addressing a weakness at 2C if it will create weaknesses on defence.

Need a very good 2 way 2C for demi and 92
no projects

Honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing where Beck is at in a year's time. He's the type of player that could have success playing higher in the lineup than his raw skill might suggest due to his style of game. He's smart, gritty, defensively conscious, can win draws and puck battles, be a good F1 on the forecheck. Sometimes those guys are just what skill players need to complete a line. Kind of like Burrows alongside the Sedins in Vancouver.

Now, I'm not suggesting we go into next season with Beck penciled in at 2C. The position still needs to be addressed, but I could see Beck being a good fit alongside a pair of skilled wingers down the line.

It does for every fr***n' player of the Sabres. With this team, we can't be sure of anything. See the 2 top players that left and what they became. He's a better "2nd chance rebirth" than what was Dach at the time.

It might end up being a career year for him, but I have my doubts he peaked at 21 years old.

He was playing in a much different environment in the 2022-23 season. Buffalo was a relatively competitive team that finished with 91 points. The following season they finished with 84 points, and this season they're on pace for 74 points.

He's on a team that's been completely imploding over the last few seasons so I'm not shocked to see his production fall/stagnate. There's a lot of blame to go around in Buffalo, but there's clearly something causing the entire team to play worse than they're capable of, whether that's poor coaching, flawed systems or a toxic locker room, I don't know. But he checks enough of the boxes of what we need/want in a 2C that I'd be willing to take a gamble on him.

Ya I don't disagree with giving this a guy a more offensive role. Like him way better than Newhook thats for sure
He is getting better and better at chasing pucks / putting pressures on D, I feel he would complement well like Lekhonen back then. And his wrist shot is close to elite. I don't pin this guy down as a bottom feeder for ever.

One question that isn't fully answered: is Cozens a 60 point physical center or a 40 point physical center? If it's not the former, that contract is not going to wear well.

He is at the same point as Heineman. They both can take more duties, something between 12 and 14 minutes and pairing with a big and experienced Anderson could do a good 3rd line. They could become a good duo like Evans and Armia.
