Feels like Garlund will suck again when he isn’t given all the offensive ice time and chances in the world. I still get it from Dallas point of view.

Take what you can get is an even worse line of thinking. It's how you get less value.
Totally disagree. How can extra picks hurt and be less value? Makes no sense.

For once we are/ can build up a nice stockpile of picks and prospects that we can use to either move up in the draft or package in a big trade

All this talk reminds me of the time we had Jordie Benn and how we ended up keeping him instead of getting something in return and we didn’t even bring him back.

It did not help anything then and the same applies now if we keep Savard, DVO et al...

4 trades in 2 days what's going on?

Trade deadline is in 5 weeks
Better to get players sooner than later so they can acclimatize to their new team, and help the team finish higher in the standings.

if the sharks are getting a first plus for those , I can see a second for Dvorak , and armia contrary to what a few here think.
Armia and Savard could fetch 2nds closer to the deadline. I don't see Dvo doing so. But stranger things have happened.

He had 60+ points in Nashville and Minnesota. Was he given all the offensive ice time and chances there? He only sucked in Pittsburgh for 20 games. Not sure what happened in Nashville for his first two years, compared to his last two.

Dvorak will need to be retained to max his value. Maybe a 3rd round pick if we retained.

I would sign Evans before Tradedeadline or trade him. Savard and Armia could stay to finish the year and we can revisit later.

Maybe suck is a strong word but he seems like a 30-40 point player in his proper role.

Yeah I'm not sure what is going on. From the outside it does seem he needs the right role, and linemates. I would have liked to have seen what he could do with Laine - but not for a 1st.

Being really generous, Armia AND Savard might both land us a 2nd round pick to go with the two 2nd round picks and the two 1st round picks we already have.

Add to that another potential 1st round pick for Evans and we are sitting pretty at the 2025 draft!

As far as Dvorak goes, there might not even be a team willing to take him on, period, not even for a late pick?

We are currently sitting at 13th OA, but are only 5 points up on 8 teams leapfrogging us, selecting 5th OA again!

That's harder than it sounds because a lot of the teams behind us will also be playing each other, but we could conceivably end up picking 10th before the lottery results for the 2025 draft, because there are 6 teams no more than 3 points away from us, including the NYIs who have the same points, but less regulation wins than us.

It would take only 3 of those 6 teams surpassing us for us to pick 10th OA before the lottery. Odds are good of that happening considering that we lost Guhle for the rest of the season and that Dach, Laine and Hutson are all petering out because of the lack of conditioning that stems from not playing this many games in a long time, if ever, in the case of Hutson.

I think that packaging our own 10th OA, the pick we end up with from Cal and one or two of our four 2nd rounders should at least get us to 7th OA.

That would still leave us with a late 1st rounder and two 2nd rounders, plus three 3rd rounders and two 4th rounders, before our 5th, 6th and 7th rounders.

That, on its own, would make for a decent draft -- and that's before considering that our other first round pick would now be 7th OA, in the territory to perhaps select a Ryabkin or a Carter Bear, but definitely a Desnoyers as a C, if nothing else.

Chart is interesting but in real life no chance does 12thOA and 17thOA get you close to 4thOA. Could get you into top 10, maybe 8th or 9th.

However, our 2 1sts and 2 2nds should get us a top player, like a 1st or 2nd line forward. Might not help today but we will be happy to have that guy 2-3 years out as we contend.

With the 2 week break this year, it's actually only around 10 games away for most teams.

Teams like players to get in roughly 25-30 games on their new teams & we're in that spot now.
When a player like Rantanen gets moved it tends to speed things along. I've always liked the idea of getting your move(s) in early and giving the players more time to gel.

Evans has cooled off tremendously with his 2 points in the last 15 games. I'd still like to resign him but I wouldn't give him a blank cheque. Should be interesting to see what happens.
