HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

Remember when we had a GM gaslight us for a decade saying these players weren’t ever available even though about 8-10 got traded during his tenure?
How to forget? There are those haters around here, that insist every single day, to recall us his existence.

If Pettersson costs similar, we gotta make a play for him. My god, what a terrible trade.
This makes the Rangers much better short term, and the Canucks much worse. This is really bad news for our Calgary 1st...

But, long term that Miller contract is a risk - I guess less of a risk with the cap going up though.

Eric Francis was on Sportsnet tonight with Ailish, he said Calgary desperate for right shot called Montreal about Dach. They said Dach not available
There are no interesting pieces in Calgary to trade Dach for so I don't think it's because Dach's an untouchable. You trade him for Pettersson every day of the week.

I guess they only offer futures as they try to lock down wc2.

Chytil is perma concussed, at least the Nucks got a 1st and don't eat salary.

I personally don't care about the Bergevin narrative. Dvorak on a value contract for one year is not a bad idea.

Newhook should be used as a puck possession winger helping a center like Beck or Kapanen. Newhook full time at center has been tried by the Avs and the Habs also tried it here and there. It's not a good full time plan IMO. He is not a true type center and trying it would be trying to force a square peg in a round hole.

Beck or Kapanen are not ready for 3C duties. Not if we want to move up into the playoffs next year. We need options to buy time to evaluate them further. I like them just as much as other Habs fans but no way I am doing any penciling them in spots before they earn it.

Hage is the one I really like but he's 2/3+ years away
Newhook is not a puck possession winger either. Place holder as 3C is all that Newhook would be, not a permanent solution or option.

Hage is 2 to 3 years away, for sure and may even end up playing as a Winger in the Show. Same for Kapanen.

Beck will be a C, a shutdown C with offensive upside because of his anticipation, his speed and his quality shot.

Whether Beck ends up as a 3C or an elite 4th line C remains to be seen. He will play NHL, however and have an important role, IMO. Lucky we got beck after selecting Mesar with our second 1st round pick that draft. Luckier we got Hutson at 62nd, though.

I was very critical of Bergevin because I felt like he never had a real direction for this team. Except the COVID run, his best seasons where driven by Price Subban Pacioretty whom he inherited from previous Management.

However it is hard to argue that most good pieces from the current roster where brought by Bergevin (CC Suzuki Evans Guhle are all superior to Newhook Dach Laine Slafkovsky Matheson this season at least, Hutson Heineman being the bright spots for new Management).

That Slaf extension will hurt.
You must be joking,right?
Last year there were 40 forward who reached 45-55 pts. Highest paid was Huberdeau, lowest was Tommy Novak on 0.8M and 4 players on ELC. Median value was 5M. His contract is 7.6M which in year 3 would be equivalent to 5.59M of last year.
It basically means without any improvement, his contract would be OK in year 4 already.

What do you think of getting Seth Jones?
He was supposed become a huge star when he used to play in Columbus. I saw him as a rather regular "giraffe"-type player with no real star-qualities. He has been rather underwhelming the past few years. Could definitely be acquired with rather low price if we wantee him. He might even be be a good fit.

Has he been in the talks at some point?

That’s a bad deal, as in cost-ineffective. It gets in the way of building a top-competitive team. Most winners don’t carry laden weight. They have a lean cap structure.

Why else do you think anybody minds if a 1OA busts? It’s their hype that sometimes give false hope to fans and teams and embarrass them (and make mistakes).
