yeah, me neither...Just to say. I don't like any top 6 that don't include Demidov next season

He’s my ideal target. Perfect centre for a rookie Demidov next year. Good centre for Laine as well. PK would improve even more. No longer need to throw Dvorak out there for important faceoffs. Veteran leader for a young team.Would O'Reilly be a logical target if we are either in the playoffs or in the mix? He has another year beyond this one and would be under control for next year.
Get rid of Dvo for pretty much anything and insert O'Reilly. He wins faceoffs as well and is miles better offensively.
We could use him as a trade chip next year as well worst comes to absolute worst.
He wanted to play in Montreal as well, did he not? If a veteran winner like O’Reilly is available, we gotta chase him. His impact in our younger players would be fantastic. He’s my ideal target. Third option....we keep him as a 2nd line centre....probably earning between 5-6 million AAV long-term, and then slide him down to 3rd line role, in two years when Hage earns the 2nd line centre role!No matter what happens with our top 6 between now and next season, Dach getting back on track is pivotal for us. We then have a good problem on our hands. Do we keep him as a good 2nd line center that wouldn't cost us too much in terms of salary or do we use him and his revigorated value to get a solid upgrade?
Assuming the picks mostly hold around this range, I'd consider using them to get a target player the Habs love in the draft, or otherwise use at least one of them to secure a professional asset from elsewhere.
Habs currently have 12 picks if my count is correct, definitely don't think we need all of them at this point.
I don’t see HuGo “buying” any asset other than a veteran 13th F to replace Pezz-dispenser and maybe a veteran backup if Dobes bubble burts which I don’t think will be the caseHuGo might go after a rental or 2 but they won't give up any valuable assets for them. 4th round to 7th round pick value probably.
It's been like that for a few seasons now... It's going to be one of the worst TDL ever.
....
Nope - wants nothing to do with playing in a Cdn market after his Make Beliefs experience, was open enough to state so publicly. It’s why he didn’t resign w Toronto, and why Trotz said he’s treating ROR situation as having a full NTCHe wanted to play in Montreal as well, did he not? I think ROR wanted out of Toronto because of the media attention so I doubt he'd want to come here. Even if he doesn't have trade protection, there's no point in trading for a vet who doesn't want to be here. However, if we can convince him that'd be awesome. I'd ship Newhook out for him easily and Trotz's being indecisive with his team's direction might make it enticing for him. He’s my ideal target. Perfect centre for a rookie Demidov next year. Looking forward, it seems quite clear that the TDL strategy will be framed by where the team stand in the standing at that time.

I never had this much of a FOMO with a player then with Dach. Before I trade him, I would try him as a W to a more skilled C, or even as a 3C....No matter what happens with our top 6 between now and next season, Dach getting back on track is pivotal for us. I agree that they will stay the course and dont dip into "rentals", but I'm not so sure they would trade Savard, Dvorak or Armia. Neither one of them can fetch more then some picks and this is the type of assets the team does not need right now. I think they will value "keeping the band together" until the end of the season higher then any asset they can get (this is assuming that no team make a crazy offer for one of them).Regardless of where the Canadiens are in the standings, they will be looking to move out UFA players they don't intend to extend.
If they were to make the playoffs this year, it would be a "bonus" and a great learning experience for the young core, but the management will stay the course and stick to the plan regardless of where they are in the standings.
I am on the same thinking.I'd be shocked if we used both picks to draft players.
Yeah that was a good argument.
I never say never on improving any position, but I am comfortable holding with our current projected forward corps for next year. The questions for me up front is who will be in the bottom 6 and who do we attempt to resign. I'd probably resign Evans and let Dvorak walk. Resign Armia as well. Promote Beck and possible Kapanen.
My biggest focus right now would be on RD. Andersson is the most likely to move target, but I would really want Dobson.
Rolling next year with this lineup.
Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Heinemen - Evans - Armia
Donkey - Beck - Gally
Hutson - Andersson/Dobson
Guhle - Matheson
Xhekaj - Carrier

I see him more as 3W. They said he spent a ton of time in coaching room last year and I was expecting some improvement of his defense. He improved his offense recently, but he is still pretty lost on defensive coverage. I am afraid this has nothing to do with his injuries. Third line of Dach-Beck-Newhook/Heineman looks good to me.I never had this much of a FOMO with a player then with Dach. You make a good point here but let's not forget the ROR of a few years ago sees his remaining career differently than now. Plus that leafs team is a contender at the peak of its window, and he decided to go elsewhere. Could be different with a very young team that's just about to become a playoff team, and could more easily this year if ROR joined. I doubt he comes here, but I don't think him being an Ontario boy will matterI like ROR's game but he's aging and I doubt this Ontario boy will bring his heart with him to play for the Habs. He said no to staying with the Leafs and I bet you he does not want to be in a hot market.
